I think had BC not been so thoroughly trounced by Union last year, I'd be more worried this year. It is a paradox, I know, but the Eagles know what to expect this time 'round. And I think they are a bit better this year than last.

I think they knew what to expect last year but were incapable of doing anything about it

i get the politics involved but the fact that Kevin Hayes isnt in the Hobey Hat Trick is a farce

Maybe because some very good players were paired up with inferior players so the very good player's full potential could not be realized.
That's what happens when you mix chicken salad with chicken chit... it all tastes like chit.

No... I will never let this go!
Well, maybe, if we win it all this year. ;) :D

Eh this team in no way resembles the team Union saw last year.

No worries Fivehole, this place has been known to beat stuff into the ground (Doherty!)

No it doesn't. This is a better team than last year. Deeper at F and vastly improved on D, IMO. Perhaps stronger at G as well, but that remains to be seen.

Ya it's crap but I can't say I didn't see it coming. There's only been a couple times 2 guys have been nominated recently from the same school, 09 with BU and '05 with Colorado College. I thought he deserved a spot but honestly, it doesn't really matter because it's Gaudreau's award at the end of the day.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Good story by Dave Hendrickson on the USCHO home page on Hayes/Gaudreau.

I like the way he describes how Hayes protects the puck with the long reach, and Jerry goes on to say how Johnny, although much smaller, has the same knack of protecting the puck from the opponent. IMO, with Johnny, the game is played at the speed he desires when the puck is on his stick. He can speed it up and blow by you, or slow it down, or stop the action in a fraction of a second and start it up again at full speed at any given moment. Hayes has the same ability to stop the action with the puck, then turn and make something happen with a great pass or rush of his own.

Watching this line in the offensive zone is like watching a very good football team. Give a good QB enough time in the pocket and eventually someone gets open and he finds him with the big play. Same with Hayes and Johnny with the puck on their stick. They'll stop the action with the puck and wait to find the open man or burn you themselves with a rush on net. We have at least one more game to watch these guys play together. Enjoy!

I know these older players that have won titles already always talk about how they want to get the younger kids their ring now, but there should be a serious campaign to motivate these kids to get Mike Ayers a ring. Would they throw a parade for him in Durham?

Questionable.

Surely they would raise a banner at the Whitt for him though...

While I'm not a Union fan but an RPI/ECAC fan, I have to give them respect for having another strong team this year. I understand that BC is better this year, please know that Union is improved this year, too.

This should be some game between two pretty evenly matched teams.

Oh, I definitely know that, and I think most others in here do as well. I sat in Providence last year and watched the Eagles get absolutely man handled by this Union team, in all phases of the game. Even with BC's improvement this season, we could see a repeat. Union is the real deal. Gonna be a barn burner.
