Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

So, it seems like Jeff Cox initially reported that Oliver Wahlstrom had decommited from Harvard and was choosing between BC and BU, but now it looks like Wahlstrom is committed to attending Harvard, provided he’s admitted. Regardless, it seems like there’s a good chance he ends up somewhere else. This would be a huge pickup for BC.

He’s committed and decomitted from schools several times now hasn’t he? He reminds me of that Sonny Milano kid that ditched you guys last minute to go to the CHL.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

Theoretically BC could clinch the league title outright by the end of this weekend's slate of games.

Win vs Maine (32 points, 16 wins) plus:
PC: Loss/Tie. As long as PC drops a point they would lower their maximum points below BC's theoretical 32. PC still holds the tiebreaker H2H so a BC win in Orono would not quite do the job.
NU: A loss or 2 ties. NU would need to drop 2 points in any fashion for BC to eliminate NU. Any non-win gives the 2nd tiebreaker to BC as NU cannot win more than 15 games, which BC already has. Drop 2 points in any fashion, their maximum goes down to 31.
BU: N/A (a win puts BC at 32 which is more than BU can attain currently)

Re: Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

I feel like BCs schedule is always a little odd, most likely related to sharing Conte Forum with three other teams and the ACC having certain rules in regard to when you need to have the basketball court down etc. A hockey specific facility would be nice. Lord knows BC has the money. But Conte is in very good shape so I don't see that happening anytime soon. Plus you'd need a spot for it.

In regard to Wahlstrom I feel like the CHL rumors have been non existent with him compared to someone like Milano and others. He was originally committed to Maine and then Harvard.

Adding. For BC to clinch the 1 seed, NU also only needs to drop 1 single point. That would prevent them from winning 15 games, so even any tie along the way drops them to 32 possible points with only 14 possible wins and would give BC the tiebreaker. Drop 2 points along the way and BC then has them outright.

Yeah, I know not everyone gets into Harvard, so he needs a fall back, but this kid and his camp seems to love attention. He committed to Maine in 7th grade and check out Jeff Cox's comment in the Maine recruiting thread. He's a great player, but seems like the one and done mercenary type. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

That mini one on one stardom went to his head at an early age! Ya I'd say you might be able to get 2 years out of him but that's it.

He was 13 years old when he verbally committed to Maine. Anyone who thinks a commitment from a 13 year old is anything other than theoretical is living in a complete fantasy land.

I'd take the 2 years of him. Or even the 1 if he's really that good. However, while BC is no Harvard as far as admissions go, given the multiple instances of recruits not getting through admissions at BC, I don't think I'd be that confident about him getting through BC's admissions either.

Also, I hate to have to say this, if it comes down to between BC and BU, we don't seem to win very many of those battles nowadays.

Remember, though, admissions at Harvard are a different animal. They're not always looking for the highest grades. They are looking for "specialists." For example, if you are an All-State musician and the best trumpet player in the state, they will admit you, even if you don't rank #1 in your class. They are NOT looking for the "well-rounded" person (i.e., the person who has an arm's length long list of "clubs" and "activities" they have belonged to). So you can't assume that just because he was recruited by Harvard that he is an academic genius and/or "beyond" BC's "standards." He may very well fit the admissions standards at BC, not because they are necessarily easier, but because they are different.

Given how late it is, I would think both schools would have to make some changes to their plans (in terms of scholarships), which could make it challenging to even be able to offer. And then there is the question of what he wants in terms of being the BMOC. Does he want to share the limelight with other first round picks Tkachuk and Farabee? Or would he rather be the clear #1 guy?

Re: Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

It's actually probably a good idea. Students probably cutting out Friday with the long weekend. BU should consider that... :)

that game last night was in Amherst but yeah, like said above, we have a screwy schedule it seems ,every year. Just trying to see how few people can attend i guess

Re: Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

BU gagged tonight so BC now has at least the #3 seed clinched

Re: Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

So I was looking through the stats page on Hockey East Online, and I found it interesting that Jake Oettinger and Joe Woll are tied for dead last in overall save percentage with save percentages of .904. But when you look only at conference stats, Oettinger is dead last, with a save percentage of .903, and Joe Woll is sixth, with a save percentage of .915. So at least Woll has been getting a little better! I can't fathom how Oettinger is dead last though. He has such a skilled defense in front of him. Makes no sense.

Yet Swayman didn’t get in a game at the WJC while being clearly the hottest goalie of the three this season

He's young. Probably we will poop. But we have a couple youngsters that can score and snipe. And a host of crash forward types. Should be exciting. Can wait to watch. :D

BC showed UMass what a Jekly and Hyde team we are. We are consistently inconsistent and yet BC has a chance to win first place if they can take care of business with Maine.

On the other hand, if they don't, that is not unexpected either.

I just hope in the Fall, we have good fresh blood to bolster our offense and defense. Some of our regulars could use some bench time for their lackluster play partcularly in nonconference games ((

Remember how Eichel made BU so much better in his one year and almost a NCAA. Let's hope BC's luck changes regarding top recruits because they need it. 2 years of not making the NCAA is tough let alone a 3rd if he goes elsewhere.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2017-2108 Season Thread

God himself, Jeremy Swayman, gets pulled and mere mortal Joe Woll gets a shutout. BC can now win the title with a win Friday. If that happens and York isn't unanimous COTY, you should have your vote taken away.
