Boston College Eagles 2016-2017 Season Thread

Re: Boston College Eagles 2016-2017 Season Thread

So yea, just a quick status on where the coaches stand compared to the preseason poll:
York +5
Sneddon +2
Dennehy +2
Umile +1
Gendron +1
Bazin EVEN
Leaman EVEN
Jackson -1 (edited from EVEN as he shared 2nd place in the preseason)
Quinn -1
The irrelvant guy at UMass -1
Cavanaugh -3
Forrest Gump -6 (LOL)

Final results going by position (not seeding):
York +5
Bazin +3
Sneddon +2
Dennehy +2
Gendron +1
Quinn EVEN (preseason #1)
Umile EVEN ( )
Leaman EVEN
Micheletto -1
Jackson -2
Cavanaugh -2
UMadBro? -6

If you're using this as a small guide for voting on COY, it's pretty clear that it has to be one of the three coaches that shared the RS title.

York.
Pros: Went +5, best in the league, and took a squad decimated by pro defections and amazingly tied UML and BU in the standings.
Cons: Team looks like they belong in the Super 8 rather than Hockey East as the season closes. Choked away a huge, huge lead.

Quinn.
Pros: Given that he could NOT have a positive number with a preseason #1 rank, he did finish right on the money. Meeting high expectations is always welcome and you cannot be penalized for being ranked #1 going into a season.
Cons: With a talent differential equivalent to the Harlem Globetrotters vs the Washington Generals, BU somehow finished tied with BC, a glorified HS team right now. How did this happen?

Bazin.
Pros: At +3, he had the second highest climb from the preseason expectations and also shared the RS title.
Cons: None? Somehow finished tied with BC?

Thoughts? By the time I got to Bazin I realized it's truly a reach to find a negative against him. It's a tough call. York did do an amazing job overall but seeing the team tank and not be able to defend, score, or put together a powerplay really makes it hard to make the vote here in the end of February. Quinn, you feel like perhaps even though he did win, the point differential in the standings would be higher and he would not have had to share it given such talent on the roster. UML... they are peaking at the right time, terrific team, terribly difficult to play against, Bazin may be the choice.

Been a busy week so far, haven't seen anything on this. Did Hockey East give any suspension to Mueller for the elbow to Gaudreau last Friday?

Having read Connelly's latest column, he finishes with talk of the awards. I know we've discussed York for COTY quite a bit, but it is disturbing and somewhat telling that not a single guy on his list was from BC (Blaine Byron though? LOL). You could, and should, make a case for Cangelosi to be included as he has had a nice year with points but also as pretty much the top faceoff guy out there in the country. But... very telling. And this is why when it comes down to it, BC is not even going to come close to sniffing anything in the postseason, NCAA bid included.

First Team All-Hockey East
F: Zach Aston-Reese, Northeastern
F: Tyler Kelleher, New Hampshire
F: Joe Gambardella, UMass Lowell
D: Dylan Zink, UMass Lowell
D: Charlie McAvoy, Boston University
G: Cal Petersen, Notre Dame

Second Team All-Hockey East
F: Anders Bjork, Notre Dame
F: Adam Gaudette, Northeastern
F: Blaine Byron, Maine
D: Matias Cleland, New Hampshire
D: Jake Walman, Providence
G: Jake Oettinger, Boston University

All-Rookie Team
F: Clayton Keller, Boston University
F: Ross Colton, Vermont
F: Patrick Grasso, New Hampshire
D: Jeremy Davies, Northeastern
D: Dante Fabbro, Boston University
G: Jake Oettinger, Boston University

Player of the Year: Zach Aston-Reese, Northeastern
Rookie of the Year: Clayton Keller, Boston University
Coach of the Year: Norm Bazin, UMass Lowell

I'd replace replace Matias Cleland with Michael Kim. There's more to being a D than just offensive stats.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2016-2017 Season Thread

MacAvoy first team? By what measure? Because he was drafted high? Also, Gambardella is a stretch for first team. Walman doesn't belong on the 2nd team. Not sure Fabbro belongs either. Too much reliance on draft status from Connelly.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2016-2017 Season Thread

Patrick Harper is certainly a snub on his All-Rookie Team.

those are just league games, no?

outside of the first couple weeks (when we prolly had little to no hea games) he's not been a factor on the sheet. that's what any voter looks at.

Second leading freshman scorer in Hockey East conference games 0.86 PPG. Not been a factor Mookie? Seriously?

7 points in the last 4 games. I'd say he's finishing the season strongly.

been absent a lot.
of course most of the boys have had stretches too like that.

just saying what we saw out of the box isn't been the same. tough pace sure, but is what it is.

McAvoy on either team is laughable...the last two years have all been about him being drafted high and a coach that enables garbage play..the best thing for BU will be the day he signs and goes bye bye

Harper dropped off dramatically, but has been back to about 85% of his first 2 months self the past few weeks, IMHO.

I wouldn't be surprised if Keller makes 2nd team. Not sure who he would replace from that list.
