First game tonight vs. Michigan State. What do the lines look like? Who scores the first goal? I'm thinking:

Jellvik - Perrault - Leonard
Stiga - Hagens - Gasseau
Sondreal - Letourneau - Vote
Posma - Joyce - Berard

Powell - Fortescue
Minnetian - Hreschuk
Gustafsson - Skahan
M. Hagens

Gasseau starts us off with the first goal of the season

Good start to the season opener for BC. Looking forward to going to the games at home and on the road.

Split... meh whatever. OK. Two road games to start the season against a top 5 team.

But tonight? One of the worst games I've ever seen BC play since I started watching in 97. Possession is kind of important.

On to AIC for the home opener. Hoping to see the students pack the place like last year.

Did coach Brown and staff overlook something or was it a total team failure ? (Coaches & players) I didn’t watch the game but tried to get updates while working tonight.

Much better. Obviously tough to know if it's competition related or what but they were > 50% from the dot tonight. They did move Letourneau off to the wing tonight (he had two great opening shifts but slowed down as the game progressed); I think he was like 1 of 16 on faceoffs in Lansing.

Perreault doing absolutely ridiculous stuff out there. Powell is sneaky good and seems to be playing even better than he was last year.

AIC did not do themselves any favors with all those PPs they gave to BC and missing scoring chances in the opening period. They had at least 2 breakins and could not convert. Fowler came up big when it mattered. Lot of physicality by AIC which they often initiated and not called by the refs. Leonard really got creamed after the whistle.

Well, THAT was exciting. Great comeback against a very solid Western Michigan team. So good to see Leonard break through in crunch time as it's been noticeable how frustrated he was getting. That guy truly wears his emotions on his sleeve. Hopefully this is the start of him going into overdrive.

Great comeback win. Stiga really was the key to the game IMO - digging the puck out of the corner and immediately dishing to Gasseau on the first goal was a super subtle, impressive play and then he goes in basically all by himself 1-on-3 and creates a scoring chance and finishes with a beauty.

These next 2 are big ones at SCSU. Shouldn't need to remind anyone that they beat the crap out of BC in a regional not long ago (with Knight/Newhook/Boldy). Powell was on that team.

The lines are starting to come together. Stiga is a difference maker and just wait until Hagens gets going. This team has size, speed, skill and great hockey IQ. They have only played 4 games and you can already see the freshman making progress. Two big PWR games this weekend!

Go Eagles

Stiga's game tying goal was something special. He certainly looks like a keeper. The schedule isn't getting any easier with two at St. Cloud followed by a pair with Maine, but as the saying goes, iron sharpens iron.

Another good win. Game was closer than 4-1 score would indicate. Weird rink, super lively boards and olympic-sized sheet. BC generated some serious Grade A chances early but struggled to get any into the net before the Vote goal which was just a lucky play for BC off of a faceoff that no one really won. Hagens was robbed on a save of the year type play by the SCSU goalie. SCSU had a goal called back due to goaltender interference; I was ok with it given that Fowler had contact as an initial shot came in and the rebound was put in (I'd like to review the rulebook again regarding this). BC then got the SHG by Stiga and it changed everything and BC then settled in. SCSU color commentator one of the worst I've ever heard in my life.

I think we'll see a lot of games like this given the makeup of the roster. Letourneau was back in the lineup.

If they can manage to get a sweep that would be huge all year long in the PWR battle.

BIG. 3 quality road wins so far this year and a 3-0-0 record vs NCHC opponents. BC is going to be tough to move out of the top few spots of the PWR.

BC generated the better of the chances throughout the weekend. Didn't bury a ton of them but just enough. SCSU is a good team and played BC pretty tight. Their goalie, who the SCSU announcers acted like he was a sure NHL hall of famer (probably would be a waterboy at BC), did manage to rob BC a few times this weekend and keep them in the games each night. BC missed the net on a bunch of great chances tonight.

Hagens - four points this weekend, the last assist was a brilliant steal/dish in an instant to Perreault on the gamewinner. Brilliant move by Perreault on the gamewinner to pull the goalie off the post and go behind and tuck it in (one nice thing about this move is the lone SCSU defender was then shielded from defending him by his own goalie).

Jellvik left the game (and BC challenged the play unsuccessfully where he was hurt), didn't return. Something to keep an eye on.

Hreschuk ate a bunch of pucks this weekend especially late in the game. Impressive stuff.

Stiga also continues to impress. Leonard still snakebit to some degree but playing tremendous hockey.

BC did benefit greatly from a missed/reviewed major on Fortescue in the final minutes. Was originally missed by officials and play continued for some time until a whistle with 1:02 left. SCSU challenged and got the major, but time is not put back on the clock by rule (unlike when a goal is scored for instance). So BC had to kill just the final 1:02 of a major that could have had huge potential to shift this weekend's results.

I was impressed how BC came out for the 3rd period, they had control of the period from the start, got the early goal but also continued to come at St. Cloud and play in their end for the majority of the period.

Are BC and Denver going to pull a BC/North Dakota of 2000/2001? Seems like they are on another potential collision course.

Bring on Maine.

if anyone is thinking of heading down to Dallas for all y’all’s game with smu, mookie did the Pitt debacle on Saturday and had a decent weekend (not counting the game result). The metro line was an hour, but dropped one right in downtown with the hotels and all. The same metro gets you out to smu/mockingbird station for the game. Couple bars near the station for pre-gaming or just stay in town to watch games as well. Uber between downtown and DFW is $45 before tip. Day pass on the metro was $12 (which is equivalent to 3 rides). But if one feels like a cheap bastid nobody checks your ticket….didn’t make it to the old ellum section of town, which mookie wanted to. Night game kinds ruined that. If you guys end up as an afternoon that could be an option.
have fun if anyone goes

mookie will be at the Pitt game after thanksgiving

BC fortunate to overcome a 2-0

power play on 5 minute major was pathetic for the most part and I thought Maine had better scoring chances but Fowler came up big tonight

BC at times over passes than shoot the puck which gave Maine the opportunity to take the lead first before BC shot more in the 3rd period to score their 3 goals late in the game

Sunday should be another doozy of a game
hopefully BC will not wait too long to shoot the puck more and not fall behind again

good conference win as BC is 5-1 in nonconference games and need to start accumulating HE wins

Great weekend and the record at this point given the competition has been impressive. Maine has that Quinnipiac build to them. They are freaking relentless but at the same time puck retrievals and overall sharpness is just a slight tick down from what we saw with an elite team like Qpac in their prime (I still can't believe we beat them in Providence). Still, they are just tough to play against and win a majority of battles. Boija had a heck of a weekend. Not sure how Maine's offense will develop; if it gets going and Boija continues this then they could be the 2nd best team in the league. I expect to see them do some damage to BU next weekend. It was mentioned last year and it's an issue again this year - Maine has a hard time away from Orono.

Friday:
- Bad ice conditions - was expecting the rink to be colder. Puck was bouncing all over the place. I didn't think that was a coincidence.
- It looked like they missed Jellvik badly.
- A goal right off a faceoff. Faceoffs could once again be a fatal flaw come March/April.
- The pass from Perreault on the game-winning goal was low key ridiculous.
- Don Sweeney was in the house to see all of his BC draft picks. Joe Morgan was also there as he is about to turn 94 in the coming days I believe. Morgan Magic in the last 10 minutes.
- Crowd was impressive. Credit to the students for not bailing. The place was going crazy. Glad they won, you simply can't lose that game for the Gaudreau and Voce families.

Sunday:
- Better ice conditions - Conte was much colder and the puck stopped bouncing. How do we let stuff like Friday night happen at BC?
- BC was clearly the better team and got better as the game went on. Seemed like they either changed up tactics or Maine was just running out of gas and you could see it in how Maine players were struggling to defend as the game wore on.
- Stiga is a great player and is going to keep getting better. He does a fine job forechecking and has a good nose for getting into the spot he needs to so he can cause turnovers.
- Powell - can't be understated how good this guy is. He has to be an All-American at this point, I'm not sure who in the country is better than he is.
- Passed up some good chances to shoot
- Fourth line was very good. Posma had a great weekend in both ends of the rink.
- The broken stick was a key play to this game on the 2nd goal as Maine had kind of a good situation in the BC zone and the stick exploded on him and BC turned up the ice. Prevented the Maine player from being able to get a new stick and he never was able to swap one with a forward if I'm not mistaken. With the Maine Dman stickless it was one less outlet available and Gasseau noticed and jumped the play up the wall (the only play available) and sniped it.

Overall thoughts:
- We know the D is good and Fowler is good but yea, teams are going to have a hell of a time scoring on BC. When the PP gets going and the forwards start filling the net they'll be rolling.
- Ryan Leonard is a rare, rare hockey player that quite frankly I've never seen in this league. Yes he has the skill doing things almost no one can do (Kick/Shot against Michigan Tech, even the steal with his skate vs WMU) but there's just something else there. He wins battles all over the rink too. Absolutely insane player. Stop and appreciate what he is able to do. You'll likely never see another player like him. He did seem to be slightly hurt towards the end of the game and spent the entirety of one tv timeout skating around and testing things out but he'd probably play with a broken leg and still look good so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
- The PP and Faceoffs are the big issue right now they need to work on.

Tough early season schedule but they have shown some serious talent and grit, two come from behind (dramatic) wins. Enjoy these games, everyone stay healthy and we could have another special season. Have to like what we have seen so far.

BC could be adapting to some of DU style of play where tight defense with strong goaltending may prevail. DU on their way to the title only scored two goals in their last four games but it was enough for their 10th NCAA title

no one else has double digit titles while BC has been stuck at 5 for quite some time

Enjoy it while we can BC fans

I suspect more talent will leave after this season as we all know who we are talking about

Hopefully BC can keep up in their recruiting of top elite players
