Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

I've always felt the 2004 game marked the end of the golden era of hockey east.

I don't agree with that statement.

With:
BC 2008
BU 2009
BC 2010
BC 2012
PC 2015

This is probably the best stretch of success Hockey East has ever seen. Arguably they have been the best conference over the 2008-present time period.

Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

There are some terrible teams in this league but i would take iur 1-5 right now against anybody.

For me the difference pre 2004 was there were a lot of years where hockey east had two or three teams good enough to win the championship. Since 2004 hockey east has won a lot of titles but in most of those years there was only one dominate team. Between 1998 and 2004 Maine, UNH, and BC all made the frozen four at least four times. Since then BC has made it quite a few times but I don't believe any other hockey east team has made it more than twice, and you're talking a lot longer period of time.

i think he meant when Maine-UNH-BU-BC all had great teams and the tourney at the Garden was banged out every year, both nights as the golden era.

Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

Correct. 2009 was certainly a banner year for Hockey East.

IDK about that Tate. Based on BU winning the title and the league having 3 good players that got finalist for the Hobey in what was a horrendously down year for Hobey contenders... I think it's certainly something that Hockey East slanted folks (media and league office especially) could point to but not sure on the true depth of the league that year.

UVM, 4th place team and got FF bid via wins over Air Force and Yale? OK team.
UNH was meh and the 3rd place team and probably was fortunate to get thru North Dakota in the regionals in all honesty. Ok team but not a juggernaut.
2nd place team was NU and we all know how things ended up for them.

4 teams in tournament. 2 in FF (one obviously fortunate). 2 eliminated by another HE team (BU). NU barfed up a lung as always.

I certainly think this year HE is pretty darn good 1-5 as JD points out. After that it's a crapshow but the league looks pretty good this year. Will they win a national title and get all 3 Hobey finalists probably not but I'd put this year over 2009.

Certainly you have to consider the golden age of HE to be when Walsh was running around cheating his heart out, BC was just starting to annihilate all of college hockey, BU was up and down under Parker as his senility kicked in, and Dick Umile's line change whistling was like the sweet siren sound to Hillbilly ears in Durham. Then everyone dropped off and HE became BC and everyone else for a while as Maine held on for dear life under Timmay in Grandbrook's last stand. I certainly wouldn't consider the timeframe when HE was winning titles in spite of the shallow league as a golden age.

But it all depends on how you look at it.

I understand those points about the sustained success of the "Big 4" during those years, though I would argue having a new Big 4 that rotates teams in and out year to year says much about the strength of the league.

But to my claim that 2009 was a banner year for Hockey East...

* 51-24-5 OOC record (.669! which is a dominant record, better than even the NCHC's win pct last year) This year Hockey East has a .541 OOC record. That's quite the difference. Sure, we have a larger league this year with more garbage teams, but that is quite a gulf, .669 vs. .541.
* All three Hobeys as you mentioned and 2/4 FF teams.
* 4-1 record in the NCAAs OOC
* All teams but PC (3-4-0) had at least a .500 record OOC. So no real poor teams. As opposed to this year? Let's not get into UNH and Maine's OOC record and how many AHA teams that UConn and NU have lost to?

I agree that 1-5 have separated themselves from the pack. Should be an interesting ride here on out.

Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

Boy good thing we added Notre Dame. Ya know... tv and all that stuff... cause watching on the internet like tonight's big game vs BC is, like, something no other school's offer.
No shyte. NBCSN probably has lumberjack competition on. But......it's on.<shrugs shoulders>

i was incensed this morning when i saw that. I have a bunch of guys getting together to watch and had to tell them we are going to watch my laptop. If ND and their awesome TV deal can't figure out that they have two marquee games , the two vs BC , then they are beyond clueless

Was just talking BC games but this is a good example of a non-BC game. I'd have to imagine these percentages would be pretty much similar if opening up the search to all NCAA games (maybe even NHL?).

mookie, I may have something for you that may be of interest for your hobby room/office or whatever. We need need to have a chat soon and maybe meet up downtown to get it to you.

cool. could meet up in town, sure. that would not be a problem. scarlet has my number if you want to get it off her and txt.

Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

This Eagle team certainly shows up in spades after losing to a team. BC gives away a game to PC in Florida and comes back and absolutely smokes them in their next game. Same with ND... hand them the game in their December meeting and then total domination tonight. It's been an impressive January run against some of the iron of Hockey East. This team is very, very good when they show up for 60:00. Can't bring anything but their 'A' game on Monday against a very strong Harvard club if they want to be playing for a trophy in the Beanpot. Good win tonight. Looking forward to see how the Eagles respond on Monday.

Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

We may actually see 2 competitive games on Monday. Odd feeling for once.

Re: Boston College 2015-2016 Season

seriously any productive move by bertanga of late?

ND addition, necessitating a yukon addition, TV coverage sucks, 6 / 830 Friday games

bueller?

imagine being that brutal at your job and pulling in ~170k (as of 2014)
