Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Ice was pretty choppy, just glad we didn't have a fog problem. Puck was bouncing all over and looked like it may have caused Matheson a couple issues on the puck. Still a great night and weekend.

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Granted it's only three games into the season, but this team appears to be on the same track as typical BC hockey teams. They have flaws that will cost them games early in the season, but they have the talent and the chemistry potential to ignite late season success. Of course the reason we love this game is because anything can happen, but I can't help comment on how similar this team is to year's past. With great leadership, Mullane has already proven his leadership qualities three games in, consistent goaltending and the potential of finding that team defense chemistry, it's like rinse, wash, repeat with this organization. I'm not predicting any championships, but after a gutty weekend, four solid league points, and their captain leading the charge, it's hard not to like what you see.

This Friday night is huge, as a win on the road at UML will mean two road kill and six of eight potential league points four games into this season.

BC has not done well at Tsongas lately. 2-3-0 record in their last 5 games there.

This is a big game. UML was expected to be at the top with BC. This becomes a big weekend already. UML has struggled somewhat out of the gate with a better performance Saturday. You could kind of say the same thing about BC if you take out that 3rd period in Amherst.

Nice job. Didn't realize Bates made it back for part of the game. Figured they would have shown him on the scoreboard or something.

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Believe he made it back to actually see the banner raised. He was on the catwalk by the boxes all game talking to the former champions. Was waiting for a quiet moment to yell fire spaz at him.

Apparently he was also at the season opening mass yesterday, something Gene never was at.

After the mass, he went to women's soccer and then made it back in time for the very end of the women's hockey game. (He also attended - spectator, not participant - Saturday night's post game press conference.) Now to just hope all his attention is strictly benevolent when it comes to the two hockey programs.

Meant to do this earlier, but some goal projections for this season:

Gaudreau 25
Arnold 20
Whitney 20
Mullane 14
Hayes 12
Straight 9
Linell 6

We've talked about how top heavy our first 2 lines are and obviously I agree. We're going to need something offfensively from that 3rd line.

It'll be intereting to see how York handles it going forward.

Couple of thoughts...

1. Do not discount leadership roles of Wey and Whitney here either. Wey/Alber doing a great job leading the new defensemen into their roles as they adjust. Wey also assisting on both game winning goals this weekend doing his part early to "step up" as this thread suggests he must. Probably #1 on team in minutes on ice, really evident in 3 period of UMass and 1st period of second NU game.

2. Steve has been the provider of key PP goals in two of the first three games and is playing with fierce intensity from the first drop of the puck in all three games. He sets wonderful example shift by shift that is being viewed by all new players and some existing players in new roles.

3. Bill Arnold is also been a tower of strength and intensity since game one and truly is a emerging leader on this team.

4. Johnny G., winner of HE offensive player of the week, just continues to amaze.

This group will have some stinkers along the way but they look to have some serious upside if they come to play and leave the press clippings behind. Hunger for the prize will serve this team well. Learning to respond to adversity will serve them well down the line. Mistakes lead to experience and learning for our younger players. No substitute for high competiton level for this weeks opponent.

Swap JG and SW for goals. SW is going to score a lot of goals on the PP this season with Gaudreaubey Baker feeding him the puck. He should not hesitate to bomb shots from the point. And Kevin Hayes should take note of that, as he passes up on good shots often (and he has a solid shot) to dangle out of a shot.

I'd probably bump up Mullane from 14 to around 18 from what I've seen in the first 3 games. This kid really is a great hockey player and while he is somewhat seen as a bit more of a setup guy he can score as well and his shooting has impressed me early on.

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Nick, how could you put Malcolm Orr on your milkcarton team? York clearly let an All-HE defenseman escape!!

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Didn't even notice the team until now. What is "Roo" Adams? Fill me in, never heard of him.

Also known as "Mark Adams" from Providence, better known as "Waste of BuffaLOL's 5th round pick in 2009."

Not many people have. He's also known as "Superman" in some circles.

At any rate, he was somehow drafted by the Sabres (maybe they made a mistake?) and is still looking for his first collegiate goal to go with his -15 rating in his first two seasons at PC.

Hokydad can probably give us a good scouting report (reminder, this is just some lighthearted fun).

No mistake. He'll fit right in with the Sabres.
