Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I'm going to trust you on this although every fiber of my being screams YDFC BS (c.f., remake of The Fog). If you have misled me, well, I'm staring at the wall, looking through the wall, towards this night...

Is this the one with the Clockwork Orange dude as Donald Pleasance?

Edit: I misread. This is part of the original timeline, not the remake. I'd heard the remake was good but then saw pieces of it that sucked lemur pus.

I have ONLY watched the original besides this one. Never had interest in the first sequels, and only very mild interest in the previous reboot(s?). To me, it really didn't miss a beat, and every other version/sequel probably isn't worth watching.

The Drug King:
Set in Busan, South Korea during the 1970s, Lee Doo-sam builds an empire as a drug smuggler in the Busan underworld, while public prosecutor Kim In-goo attempts to take down Lee Doo-sam.

Standard arc to a drug kingpin movie, based on true events. The rise and fall, blah blah blah. That being said, it did incorporate real life events happening at the time outside of the main story, which added depth to the main character and his thinking process. If this is your genre, definitely recommend. If not, meh, take a gander. It's not bad at all.

Watched Reqium for the American Dream tonight for the first time. Should be required reading/viewing.

The original is of course amazing -- the second-closest an American movie has ever gotten to the strain and atmosphere of giallo (after the immortal Black Christmas).

2 is not terrible and even has its moments.

3 is actually an okay movie though famously it has nothing to do with the Michael storyline.

The rest are bovine excrement.

If you want shadows and suspense, I recommend Hush. Netflix only, no DVD, which SUCKS. Deaf/mute who's hunted in a remote location. Almost ZERO dialogue, awesome horror movie.

I have tickets to the premiere of Captain Marvel tonight. I thought it was the origin story of a new superhero in the Marvel universe and a look ahead to Avengers: Endgame but I am seeing online that it is actually a revealing documentary about how the Disney Corporation plans to implement Brie Larson's plan to exterminate white men. I'm looking forward to it.

Personally I think that whole controversy is complete garbage. Whoever blew it up or out of proportion is certifiable.

I'm looking forward to the movie. One of my favorite Marvel Characters of all time and a character that has a very complex history. Curious to see how they decide to work it as there are many different ways to go.

They did the same thing with Wonder Woman...only much of the nerd media only fanned the flames instead of being all upset and in a huff like they are with Captain Marvel.

Silly me forgot about the Wonder Woman backlash. People suck.

They do...especially Incels who cant stand strong female characters. I may have zero interest in the character but good on Disney for making this film.

Well, it's definitely one of my faves. I used to be a purest on some stuff and now I really like characters that are changed over time and have complex histories, etc. Love to see what they do with them and whether I'll like the changes or not.

She will be the most powerful MCU Superhero to date.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Comic book nerds always amuse me.

Stuff like this makes me glad I nerded out on Microsoft Flight Simulator in grade school. No misogyny or privilege when you're staring at a simulated instrument panel on the screen, unless you're idealizing the long-dead 1960s Pan Am life of an ex-mil pilot with two wives on opposite sides of the country and dozens of one-night stands with 20 year-old FAs.

They led a very successful boycott of The Force Awakens because not only did it have a strong female lead, but also (gasp!) a black stormtrooper. TFA only made $2 billion worldwide to become the #3 film of all time as well as the top domestic film ever. They also organized a boycott of Hamilton, which was so successful tickets were sold out a year in advance.

Finding out Incels are boycotting you is cause for massive celebrations in corporate boardrooms coast to coast.

I configured a Voice VLAN today on just about my first try for the new incoming VOIP phone system we're implementing this month. I don't just nerd out on comic books.

Its true...none of the boycotts work and it is laughable. The TFA one was awful though.

I'm going tonight as well... Just hoping that this isn't just a 2 hour trailer for ENDGAME... I'm thinking we'll get something like Captain America: TFA. 90% of the movie is in the past with a last second change of direction to bring us right into "modern times".

Side question: I'm starting to think that what Marvel has done to this point is something that we'll never see again. I really think that it's lightning in a bottle. Sure we'll see a new "big bad" teased during Endgame. But going forward from there, I really feel that things will slowly deflate. Something like a trilogy where #1 is "OMG Awesome!", #2 is "Had it's moments, was enjoyable, but not the 1st" and beyond that is just dreck...

Think Marvel can keep this train rollin'? I'm curious because we have everyone from hardcore geeks to people that follow and enjoy the ride to people that watch because it's everywhere/popular to the "Anti-geek" crowd.... A good cross section of life here.

I agree. After the next Avengers everything will change and never be this huge again.

I guess we do have the decent into dreck followed by a Phoenix revival, ala Mission Impossible/Fast & Furious on the table as well for 2028/2029 :o
