Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Honestly, and let me be perfectly clear that this would never happen, I would love to see bond turn more into a Tinker Tailor type franchise. I watch that movie once a year and I’m still not sure I’ve fully grasped it.

You mean a wheels within wheels spycraft franchise? We've already got plenty of those. Let Bond be Bond in all his domestic violence glory.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Endgame crossed $200M in China last night. Originally it was thought the movie could get $270M over the opening weekend, but that has been pushed to $325M. The #2 movie in China has grossed $327M for the entire year. Only six movies grossed over $300M in 2018 (IW was the only American film) for the entire theatrical run. IW was $359M total. It will be the 13th highest grosser in Chinese box office history after just one weekend.

My Disney stock thanks you. :)

I wonder if they introduce additional content to China-fy it there. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Apparently Looper (I think) had an entire plot arc for China that wasn't in our version.

A day in the life of a Disney executive:

...although poor dumb Lazenby also did it really well in his one chance.
His documentary on Hulu, Becoming Bond, was amazing. His differences with the Production team soured him on the role (huh, maybe Craig isn't the a**hole the media reports, and it's just the whole Broccoli family are a**holes?).

I'll have to see that. I saw him on a doc a long, long time ago in which he said it was entirely his own fault and that he was offered a second film but turned it down because he liked modeling better and didn't want to be typecast. His agent at the time basically just threw up his hands and told him he was an idiot. Later, he agreed, but actually said he liked the way his life turned out and didn't regret it.

I love his one film -- think it's one of the best Bonds ever written -- and really like his performance too.

Agreed. OHMSS became my favorite when I came to appreciate just how much was packed into the film. When I was young watching the bond marathons on TNT/TBS, I liked them all, but grew to appreciate Connery and Lazenby's the most. Moore's just don't sit well with me, and the only one I'll watch if it's on is For Your Eyes Only.

Also, Diamonds are Forever is a guilty pleasure watch. So much more over the top because Connery was being thrown sacks of money to "recover" he franchise, but it's just Moore-era trash masked by Connery.

I think it's better than that though there are definitely silly moments (the henchmen's vaudeville routine, the execrable moon buggy chase).

Plus Tiffany Case is one of my favorite Bond girls. To hear her accent slip on and off is pure joy.

Guess we can't talk about James Bond either, without dealing with the usual suspects bringing up politics. Its ****ing pathetic.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Pipe Dream regarding ENDGAME and some love from the Academy Awards:

- Does this movie/franchise require some love for going into uncharted territory for modern film? The film hits the ground running and is basically running off the groundwork laid out over the 10 years of the MCU. If this was your first venture into the MCU, there is absolutely no way you could follow. That's never been done before.

I'm thinking of this along the lines of "arthouse ascetic". Like what a film like ROMA did last year. You just look at the film and can tell that it's different and took a chance on that. We see movies awarded for bucking the trend all the time.

I know its a pipe dream, but this franchise took similar steps with their storytelling. Disney just made $TEXAS off of it while most other awards contenders don't. I don't consider myself a film buff, but this thought has been bouncing around for a while. We did see some love given to BLACK PANTHER last year, but I feel that ENDGAME is much deeper from an artistic storytelling aspect. Nothing has ever been done so cleanly on the scale presented. And that deserves merit.

I hope the idea I'm trying to present is coming across. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I really do feel that there is artistic weight here.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Bond at its best is stylish, dangerous, but still with a glimmer of self-mockery.

I'ma go ahead and voice what may well be a very unpopular opinion. I don't care for James Bond movies. Perhaps I'm the only one.

This may be the craziest thing I've seen on the interwebs in the last 24 hours. Bwaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaaaaaaa

All
of them? That's a wide range.

I mean even I like 2 or 3 Rom Coms.

I can't definitively say all of them, that would be stupid. Almost as stupid as watching all of them would be once I've established that the concept fails to entertain me. lol I realized that I find them boring around 1990, and have probably only seen 2 that were made since then. I think I've seen most of the ones made before then, although I haven't seen the Lazenby one. I would probably sit and watch that one if I saw that it was on. But when you find yourself bored 30 minutes into a movie, and then that pattern repeats through a series of movies, it would be pretty foolish to keep watching them. :D

Sinemia just shuttered all USA operations, effective immediately. Moviepass outlived them....

I dunno. Most comic book movies bore me to tears but there have been a few (Iron Man, Black Panther, Deadpool) that I really enjoyed and a few others (Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Captain America) that were adequate.
