Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Seems to hold with any Star * franchise.

As much as Lucas was a bloviating, self-important fraud, 4 is far and away the best SW, and 5 is second.

It's like Spielberg or Billy Pilgrim. Even a dupe can roll double 6s.

Reefer Madness (1935):
Hadn't watched this in years, I actually own the movie. Just was in the mood for it. Good God is it hilarious with the fiction associated with smoking "marihuana." A total cult classic, so much worth watching. High school students go to an dealer's apt to get high, bad things happen.

RM is best when you are completely stoned. Helplessly.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Girlfriend and I took my grandkids to see Dumbo yesterday. Can't understand all the "rotten tomatoes". It was a movie about a flying fkng elephant. It was a kids movie, it did get a little dusty in there but we all enjoyed it. Got kids, take 'em.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I think of a lot of it was they thought the movie was too much like the original instead of improving on it. I havent seen it yet but will next week.

Plus RT sucks. It has changed out reviewers look at films and made them way more hyperbolic with a much larger ego.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I like to take the average of the RT and Flixster score and use that as a barometer. If both audiences and critics like it, I’ll probably check it out.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Rotten Tomatoes is fine. You use the critics' score for the smarties and the audience score for the dummies, and then plan accordingly. There are great stupid movies out there for when you want to put your brain in neutral, especially now that reality is a found footage horror movie.

Depending on who you are you can also use the ratio of the scores. If I'm looking for a way to spend an afternoon I want to max out the critic/audience ratio. Other people will want to do the exact opposite. No shame in either approach -- use the scores as a tool.

You mean someone might like A while someone else does not?! And both responses are valid?!

THAT'S UNPOSSIBLE!!!! :p

I know, it goes against all the rules of social media. :p

I will admit, I am curious to see how ENDGAME plays out of RT next week. If it has flaws, will people be willing to call them on it? Star Wars showed it's possible, but Marvel appears to be on a different level with the teflon factor...

It will take a while for the reviews to shake out. The audience will peg at 99% for the Fan Boy Effect for at least a few weeks no matter what -- the "early adopters" literally won't even know if the movie sucks, because their own self-image is invested in it being Important. That will eventually dissipate if it's genuinely terrible.

Zero percent chance. Star Wars is different. Even the critics who usually hate films like Endgame will still at worst give it a decent grade. My guess is at lowest it hits 85%. Never cross The Mouse ;)

(unless it is Dumbo because that wasnt going to make a ton of money anyways :p )

And I am only partially serious.

As for RT I usually look AFTER I see a film unless I never plan to see it. I make my own decisions.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I read the critics....and then see what Netflix's algorithm says for me, and then check in here and GPL, because many of you actually know me and my tastes.

And oftentimes I still dive in headfirst. And once in a while, I really regret it. ;)
