Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

I don't know if I'd be admitting to this. HE has some of the worst officials in the country.

this is like "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time"

let me know how long you have been an NHL or Olympic ref and THEN tell me your opinion, would ya?

Wow, I can't imagine why you have negative rep...calm down over there fella...things will be okay. I promise!!!

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

I don't know if I'd be admitting to this. HE has some of the worst officials in the country. There is a reason that a big handful of HE teams are at the top of the country in Penalty Minutes. And it's b/c HE officials have a tendency to blow their whistels early and often...take for example Saturday night, MC vs UMass. Ryan Flanigan hits a UMass player on the logo on the front of his jersey...directly on it. The player had the puck...hand goes up...and they call boarding?!?!?!?! It was mindblowing.

Now, on to the series...any trip to Alfond is a tough trip. Alfond is a house of horrors...been up there too many times...I see this series going 3 games...and I see game 3 coming down to OT. Who I'm picking? I have no idea, but if you held a gun to my head, I'd have to go with Maine unfortunately as they hold the home ice and MC has had trouble putting up more than 1 goal per game recently. Not going to be easy but I'm holding out some hope. So, here ya go:
Game 1 - Maine 3-1 ENG
Game 2 - MC - 4-2
Game 3 - Maine 3-2 OT

P.S. - As for Diamond, like REN said below, he's an aggitator who can put the puck in the net...I'd love to have him on my team, but hate him on yours...he's like Marchand playing for ANY OTHER team LOL

Now just imagine what you'd have if you could add Flynn and Abbot to compliment Merrimack's defense and goaltending.

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

Excellent compairison of Diamond to Marchand. Just glad he is on our team but if he wasn't I'd be hating on him also. He was responsible for our only 2 pplays against UNH. He seems so much smarter on the ice than he was earlier this year. He may get a few matching calls but will put us on the pplay as well.
Can't wait till Friday nite, you know this one is going to be fun, GO JOEY take down the Big Fellow!!!

so, I have to ask.... what was wrong with the call?
go read the rule and get back to me and tell me how hitting a logo of a jersey of a puck carrier takes away the "boarding" part of the call.
your post in mindblowing

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

Aside from the obvious calls, I find boarding penalties to be handed out far too often when the hit is simply too hard or it makes too loud a noise along the boards. It may well be, given the state of hockey today, to be a good thing. But I've seen plenty of those calls that were nothIng short of good hard checks.

That's what Flanigan's hit was; both skaters moving in the same direction, Ryan gave him a good solid thump (shoulder to shoulder from my viewpoint, not front of the jersey) while the offensive player was carrying the puck. It was against the boards, but that's where he was carrying the puck. Hey, the refs don't get them all right, but they get more right than I would!

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

Knodel would smash his face in just as TVR body slammed him. Joey is a dirtbag just like Claude Lemieux. Tough until challenged at which point people like that always get pounded.
Never seen Joey fight have ya?

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

I'll bet Joey would drop him with one punch

?
Not sure what that has to do with a college hockey game, but anybody can be dropped with a punch thrown at the right time in the right spot.

And I always attributed this to Jack Parker working the refs. Bah.

per the rule book: Boarding is usually assessed to a player when the opposing player is hit 4–5 feet away from the boards and hits their head against the boards on the way down.

They were against the boards, it wasn't a hit while the player was facing the boards (which is when boarding is called 99% of the time), and the player didn't hit their head on the way down...I'd say that would sum it up, no? In all my years of seeing the "boarding" call being made, it was always when the opposing player was facing the boards, hit on the numbers and went head first into the boards...Flanigan's was just a hard check...had they called roughing, I wouldn't have been okay with it, but I would have been a little more okay with it than the boarding call. It was the first boarding call I've seen in 20 years of watching college hockey where the player wasn't facing the boards, that's all I was saying.

This guy has a big hill to climb to successfully defend the HE officiating I saw this year. It was clear to me in most games nobody knew what was/was not a penalty

Be careful...just like Tyler Durden told us the first rule of fight club is you do not talk about fight club...apparently you aren't allowed to talk about HE Officiating either...guess that was the 2nd, unspoken rule ;)

Re: Bigos vs Joey - C'mon Lets Face Facts Here

A little less than 24 hrs till the Warriors and the Black Bears get it on. WABI did a nice job discussing the last time we hosted the quarters, 2010, and the OT win in game 3 against UML that got us to the Gaarden where we beat BU Friday and lost to BC 7-6. We were the only team that challenged the Eagles as they killed everyone else to become National Champions.

My prediction, Joey gets under Bigos's skin and we get 2 pplays as a result. GO BLUE!!!
