Big Wins And Bad Losses: TUC

Re: Big Wins And Bad Losses: TUC

I dunno if anybody else has looked at these numbers yet, but i just did a quick comparison of KRACH vs. PWR. Looking at the top 15 teams in the PWR (since Atlantic Hockey will be the #16 seed, and assuming no big upsets in conf tourneys to take away an at large bid), it's very similar to KRACH. Exclude cornell for 1 second, which is tied for 14th in PWR with CC, and those top 14 in the PWR... are also top 14 in KRACH. Granted there are differences in where teams are ranked (like WCHA taking 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 in KRACH), but isn't the MAIN point of the PWR to get the tourney worthy teams into the tourney, then let 'em play? Using KRACH's numbers, the PWR is... well... spot on. Granted it'll look different at the end of the year, but just stating...

Re: Big Wins And Bad Losses: TUC

if the six teams from that conference are better than the teams from other conferences, than **** right they should be in the tourney. why should teams from the WCHA be discriminated because they do not get to play in an easy conference? clearly, a team that plays 25 TUC and 14 games against top ten will probably have worse record than a team that doesn't even play 10 tuc, so right now a team in 6th place is probably better than any team in the lower 3 conferences.

and, all WCHA teams make the WCHA tourney.

holy crap, you have something that tells such which teams are better than the others... anything else you're keeping from the world like the cure for cancer or something?

As a matter of fact, I do. Your smarmy attitude means I'm not going to share it with you though.

Re: Big Wins And Bad Losses: TUC

I've stated before, and I'll state it again:

I bet we'd have much less arguments if we just took 16 monkeys (Capuchin, preferably, because they look way cool) and they tossed their poo on a wall that was sectioned off for all D1 teams. The first 16 sections hit on said wall would make the tourney.

But then teams with longer names would get an unfair advantage.

I enjoy that he's completely ignored you on this.

I didn't ignore him, I have nothing to say. But to appease you,

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I was not aware that the NCAA committee now uses PWR to select teams. I apologize for my remarks to the contrary.

Re: Big Wins And Bad Losses: TUC

And since most mokeys are right-handed, their tosses will invariably generate an east coast bias.

Wouldn't the throw most likely hook to the left, meaning more western teams would get in? Granted I don't know for sure because I can't throw right-handed... :D

Re: Big Wins And Bad Losses: TUC

My main concern is that the top 8-10 teams make the tournament. After adding in the auto-bids, then the field needs to be rounded out to 16. I am not going to waste time on worrying about a team on the bubble. If they deserved to be in the tourney, then they should have played better. I don't like the auto bids. They reward a team that sucked all year and had one good weekend.

I prefer the system in which my team is seeded better. (just being honest here).
I do not like any system that says ONLY "x" number from any conference. If they play exceptionally well in n-c games then they deserve a higher ranking, no matter what conference they are.

Question: Does anyone know what the KRACH had set up when Wisco was 1 game under 500 and made the NCAA field?

Wisconsin made the tournament easily under KRACH that season. So did Mankato, though - IIRC.

I have to disagree. For example, last year UMD won their playoff series so they could head to St. Paul. They played well enough to win three games in a row and win the WCHA. They so deserved to be in the NCAA last year.

tUMD could have made it without the auto-bid. They were 100% in after beating UND.

I agree. If I remember correctly they played in the Final 5 play in game and deserved to make it based on their championship run. Pucky-Bucky Backer believes Duluth didn't deserve it because they reward a team that sucked all year and had one good weekend. Which I totally disagree with his statement. IMO, if the winner of the play in game can win the WCHA tourney they so deserve to play in the NCAA tourney. Only one team has ever done it so it is obviously difficult to win the Final 5.

I was not singling out UMD or anybody else. I was saying that an 8th place team that played poorly should not get in by having one lucky weekend. If UMD qualified based on their PWR, then fine.
