BIG / WCHA Challenge - 2015 Great Lakes Invitational

Re: BIG / WCHA Challenge - 2015 Great Lakes Invitational

Rooting hard for NMU on Wednesday. I think it's time for a big ol' reset for the other invitee.

The JLA can't get torn down fast enough. What a terrible record NMU has against Michigan in that building.

It's not an NMU thing. Michigan has an amazing record at JLA. 104-49-5 as of tonight.

30-19-5 against state, 21-6-0 against Tech.

Re: BIG / WCHA Challenge - 2015 Great Lakes Invitational

We scored 10 on MN and only got a split.

So.

That is a misleading stat, though. If it were 5 goals each night.....but it wasn't. 8 and 2 (IIRC) were the goals-for, which tells a more complete story.

No, not misleading at all, that was my point. Can score in bunches one night only to struggle the next.

When you score 10 in two games only to get a split, that tells a lot.

Which team is the home team for the finals today? This host/co-host thing is throwing me off and I want to buy tickets at the right end.

Very disappointed to see the Northern band is not in attendance.

Who'd pay for those students to come to Detroit from Christmas break and go back home before returning to campus for the start of classes a week from Monday? The MICH & MSU bands were Alumni Bands made up of mostly relatively local residents.

Terrific first day of the GLI! Congrats to Tech & Michigan on winning a couple down to the last second nail biters.

Very disappointing. Ferris brought their band, too bad northern could not.

I'm excited to see Michigan's speed again, they've got some players that can fly! Tech will be in for a much greater test than State provided.

Look on ticket master and it lists where each team's section is. When you select what section you want if lists it on there

Also I noticed that the whole upper bowl is now general admission. Makes it easier to find seats. If you're doing general admission just buy at the Joe and save on fees

I could be wrong, but I believe the upper bowl has been GA for a while.

Yes it has. I was told by an usher that the NMU band had reserved the section above the NMU fans but for some reason no showed. I'm pretty sure they were planning on coming.
NMU looked very good and Racine didn't do much except stay square to the puck and make himself big.
I though Michigan showed flashes of unbelievable talent and I figure them to win tonight as well. The pp especially was impressive.
Tech looked like they were skating in mud most of the game, but got better as things went on. Baltus' shot was a laser.

Michigan and Michigan State's bands are at bowl games, which is why you get Alumni Bands from them at the GLI. So all those students return to campus and then go on a band trip (which is paid for easily by FBS $$$).

I love that the Tech band is there every year. They find the money to send the band, not sure why NMU couldn't. Granted Tech does this every year so I assume the logistics are mostly figured out already.

Couple of exciting games yesterday. I'm glad the teams in green lost. I've never really liked that color anyway.

Michigan's band is always in section 213 (penalty box side) where Tech's band would be diametrically opposite (across the ice) on the players bench side IIRC.

That sounds correct. As for the general admission thing...shouldn't have trusted the wife on that 🙄😁

Big 14 To Go is screwing paid customers by moving today's title game to BTN+, which is a minimum of $10 and also auto-renews. Of course, BTN+ is only for NON-TELEVISED events, but the league is screwing customers by making it a paid event today.

Screw the Big 14.

Unless something has changed, the Tech band members pay their own way to GLI (other than the tickets) and the university (student directors) transports the band equipment to the Joe and back to Houghton in MTU vans. There were always plenty of Tech band members in the Detroit area home on break during the GLI and some from other states as well that are just willing to make the trip on their own dime to support the team. I went one year as a student (was from WI at the time) but if Tech had been paying my way I certainly would have gone every year. Hard to believe that NMU couldn't do something similar. I'm sure Tech is not unique in the fact that they pull a lot of students from below the bridge and they are sitting around during the holiday break in the vicinity of the JLA.

you just need to use Fox Sports Go and have a login that gets you access to FSD...or have Dish/DirecTV with sports package if you're out of FSD area.

Michigan is the home team when they don't play Tech, unless they are playing state in an even-numbered year. This is because in even-numbered years (2015-16), Michigan is the home team in the annual game against state in Jan/Feb.

Is that how it works? I've been trying to figure out the UM/MSU thing for a few years now.

The real TV devil here is Comcast. Apparently they don't pay to license the FS regionals, so the championship is actually advertised on FSgo until I sign in and then met only with basketball on FS1.
