Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament

So how many B1G players have bolted early for the NHL so far?

I think I saw on the main page that OSU lost 2 and PSU had lost 1? I'm sure Minny will lose several, hopefully they take a Championship ring with them to show off to their new NHL teammates.

Back to back FFs (same for Minnesota). I don't think people realize just how tough it is to win the whole thing. If you're consistently getting to FFs you're doing things right.

Considering how few Blue Blood programs got to the Frozen Four the 12 or so years ending just after the covid canceled season of 2020, Michigan has performed quite well, same with Minnesota and Denver. These programs ALL struggled to adjust when the NHL started depending more heavily on college hockey to fill it's rosters, and the 12 or so years of the non-blue bloods dominating the Frozen Four, from 2009 to 2021, but it seems they may have finally started to figure it out? Only time will tell.

BU isn’t a blue blood?!?!?

In the past 15 Frozen 4's the so-called blue bloods (more than 15 appearances or 5 or more titles) have appeared 27 times out of 60 teams appearing. That is still dominating. 12 more of the appearances have been by teams appearing at least 4 times. Only 21 appearances have been by teams appearing 3 times or fewer with Quinnipiac being the only one of those with 3 appearances.

For all the talk about how good the Big Ten has been this season, and I do believe this season the Big Ten was college hockey’s best conference, I think the talk about the Big Ten dominating college hockey from here on out is silly. With the classes that BU and BC have coming in next season, that conference is going to be the monster next season.

The 3 teams I listed each have been to multiple Frozen Fours recently. Didn't purposely not list BU, no offense was meant, just that multiple trips is more significant than a random one time trip. If they return to the FF next year, then I'll most likely add them to the list if I regurgitate the topic around this time next year.

The definition of schadenfreude for me: the Big 10 still hasn’t won a thing. Suck it, Gophers and Badgers. Almost a decade in, glad State College is still working out for you.

Yeah in the last 15 years eastern teams have now won 8 times..so I really don't see the Big 10 or Western conferences as dominant as you indicate. Their is parity in college hockey and the advent of the transfer portal and the build up of non traditional programs without a rich, long history like UMass, and QU will only continue. It's anybody's ballgame today.

Ok
the years you listed though did have BU winning a title one year and losing the title game in another (plus while you didn’t include this year they did make this one)

cerainly not great by our standards, but still 3 FF and 1 natty in those last 14 years

Quinnipiac > B1G. Anyone able to do a wellness check on DaveK/Speed Kills?

I'm flattered by how obsessed you are with me. I'm disappointed that the Gophers spent the entire 3rd period playing not to lose instead of playing to win, but life goes on. At the end of the day I have to congratulate Quinnipiac on their 1st ever national championship. They earned it by winning 4 straight games against 4 good teams (including 3 from the best conference in NCAA hockey).

I’m glad you’re coping! It’s always fun to tease you for how serious you take your B1G iS bEsT stuff. All in good fun. Reality is, it is only a matter of when not if to a B1G team finally breaking through.

Our players are still making bank in the NHL.

Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are all Top 4-5 at producing NHL players and Mich St is Top 8 as well.

Yes, in my greater wide analysis, but by recent, I meant like 2019-present. Minnesota and Michigan both made Frozen Fours the last 2 seasons. Denver won the title in 2019 and made the Frozen Four again last season.

Again, no offense meant towards BU.

From 2008 to today, BU had 1 titles, 2 total title game appearances and 3 total Frozen Four appearances.
From 2008 to today, Mn had 0 titles, 2 total title game appearances and 4 total Frozen Four appearances.
From 2008 to today, BC had 2 titles, 2 total title game appearances and 4 total Frozen Four appearances.
From 2008 to today, Dul had 3 titles, 4 total title game appearances and 5 total Frozen Four appearances.
From 2008 to today, DU had 2 titles, 2 total titles game appearances and 4 total Frozen Four appearances.
From 2008 to today, QU had 1 titles, 3 total titles game appearances and 3 total Frozen Four appearances.

That's the teams that made a minimum of 3 Frozen Fours and 2 Final Games since the non-blue bloods started dominating the Frozen Four. Michigan made several Frozen Fours, just hasn't gotten to a Title game for a long time. UND won a title, but it was the only title game it got to in that time period.

The idea that what happens in the NHL should count towards ranking college hockey programs is preposterous to me (and I am a fan of a team that produces a ton of NHL players). Michigan isn't developing/sending Adam Fantilli to the NHL. BU didn't "send" Jack Eichel to the NHL. Those are NHL players regardless of where they decided to play for a year.
