C*ting whore. I f*king hate the BT and all it stands for. I'd give up four games against Wisconsin to keep two games against the Sioux, UMD, and DU.

What will be interesting to see, is if North Dakota winds up keeping its logo, if Minnesota would continue its policy of not scheduling games against schools with Native American mascots/logos. If they did play, it would be interesting to see if they would start scheduling UND in other sports.

Yep. Further proof the school is run by a bunch of gigantic vaginas.

They will not play UND.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt II - The Exodus

With the BTHC auto qualifier they will have as many teams in it as this year...

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt II - The Exodus

For good or bad it is change. People hate change.

Yeah. It would be a stretch to keep it alive regardless of the nickname issue. Minnesota is going to want to pile up as many home non-conference games as possible, and can probably schedule 2 for 1s or 3 for 1s with the in-state schools. I think North Dakota has too much pride (rightly so) to accept nothing less than 1 for 1. I don't see Minnesota wanting to do that. I've thought for awhile that the only reasonable solution would be to have a "Western Beanpot" if you will. Take Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Team X (SCSU, UMD...invite a new team each year), and have it at the X. I would think you could probably get close to a sell out, and split the gate between the four schools. You could have it over Thanksgiving break, as both Wisconsin and Minnesota have holiday tournaments already. Of course, that would take a lot of work and coordination. If the school's agreed to give me 10% I'd figure it out for them :p:D:D

Yes, but in the new format teams like Minnesota and Wisconsin would be moved off the bubble and be in the tournament thanks to NC wins over cupcakes and 6, 7, 8 additional wins vs Ohio State and Penn State. They wouldn't be weighed down by the losses they accumulated in the WCHA (or MSU in the CCHA) so would not only be in the tournament, but safely so. They'd also still be alive for the autobid from the new BTHC. Teams like WMU and CC would be off the bubble and praying for the autobid.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt II - The Exodus

I wonder if the B1G would consider a 15 game conference schedule to have more games on the BTN, like a Tuesday at the Rink type thing...plus it would allow them all to have more home games with 2 for 1s and 3 for 1s with their old conference teams and the AHA or ECAC.

If you're inviting a new team each year and having it over one weekend instead of two, it would be a western GLI not Beanpot.

But, wouldn't the PWR "sort of" equal everything out?

For example: Minnesota and Wisconsin rape Michigan Tech 2-0-0. Minnesota and Wisconsin split their Big10 series 2-2-0. Northern Michigan sweeps Michigan Tech 2-0-0.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt II - The Exodus

The biggest question I have regarding the big 10 conference is that if they add hockey, does that mean that they will have to recruit slow, plodding , unathletic players to fall in line with the other sports sponsored by the Big 10?

I was saying you could have a fixed 4th team like SCSU or UMD (or someone else), OR invite a new team each year. I wasn't very clear on that. There already is a western GLI...it's called the GLI :p:D:D

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt II - The Exodus

Any chance the remaining big boys from the WCHA and CCHA try to get together? Off the top of my head, I was thinking North Dakota, Denver, CC, Miami and Notre Dame. Or is there a loyalty factor?

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt II - The Exodus

I heard this is a conspiracy by the Hockey East higher ups to split up the WCHA and become the new premier conference in the nation.

The only question I have in this is, and Ive heard this with some people in the press that the MAC schools, Miami, Bowling Green and Western will stick together as a group through this.

Wouldn't be the first time the HE ******** bailed on their conference wrecking a ton of great rivalries in the process.

There has been talk that the WCHA would try to have Miami and Notre Dame come to the WCHA. There has also been talk that UND, DU and CC would split from the WCHA, be joined by Miami and Notre Dame in a new conference. In that scenarios there would also be another 1-3 teams that would join, most likely from a group of UNO, UMD and SCSU.

My HOPE for the BTHC is that it doesn't cause any programs to fold, allows UAH to go to the CCHA, promotes the sport so that other Big Ten schools add hockey, and provides room within other conferences for growth from non-Big Ten schools. NCAA Hockey would grow to about 65-70 programs, and increased exposure of the sport.

My WORRY for the BTHC is that it causes several programs to fold, UAH never finds a home and shuts up shop, and the other schools in the Big Ten don't care and don't even think about adding hockey. The remaining schools that are left after the folding of several programs join together in a conference, and we're left with 48-50 programs. The NCAA Tournament goes back to 12 teams, and college hockey gradually becomes less relevant than it already is.

Realistically, either of these scenarios would take dozens of years to come to fruition.
