Big Ten 2015-2016

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

Bahahahahahahahaha not even parents and girlfriends came to the Xcel tonight! B1G MISTAKE!

There are more people at Mickey's Diner than the Thursday session!

and there are no hockey games in North Dakota this weekend. Lots, and lots of them in Minnesota.

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

He's drunk. Minnesota was the most opposed to this disaster. Their costs would go up and revenue would stay flat at best. Unfortunately costs have gone up and revenue is down (IIRC)

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

I see that there were 4200+ at the X yesterday, per the box score. With that kind of accuracy, tonight's box score should be in the 50-60,000 range, eh?

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

I think most people realize at this point that the Bi6 conference was nothing more than an effort to grab control of another sport and put another dollar sign on their balance sheet and put programming on their network. To be fair, I would be interested to see a photo taken at the mid-point of the second game for an honest look at fan interest for this year's Bi6 championship. (Granted it may be tough to find someone who attended to take said photo...)

If you put the championship in hockey crazed MN, and the Gopher's back yard, and you can't draw 5k per night that should tell you all you need about the fans' interest in the Bi6 hockey conference. Yes, Michigan is a solid top 10 team, but the second best team in the conference (based on PWR), Minnesota, barely makes the national polls, getting in pretty much with sympathy votes and name recognition. No team with 16 losses is a top 20 team.

Yea, we know the attendance sucks.

So we should ALL try to do something about it. Send notes to your AD and get them to promote the championship. Locally and at each school. I can deal without promoting St. Paul and Detroit as long as they promote the championship weekend. Not only on the local channels that via the ownership of the teams/arenas. But AT EACH school.

It's time to stop whining and start doing. The B1G Hockey conference isn't going away. We need to deal with it.

Everyone here is a fan, some are donors. All of your voices count.

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

Problem is, it's just prohibitively expensive to travel to Detroit and St Paul for half the conference.

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

Should go to a 3 game series format.

Top 4 get in. 1 weekend for the semis, the next for the championship.

At the top seeded teams' home rinks.

3 game series for the conference championship?

Yes please!

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

That kind of format would also help build animosity that's sorely needed to help me think why I should care about the CCHA teams and PSU compared to what we're missing from the old WCHA.

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

Another problem with the BTT is it coincides with the first two rounds of March Madness. You're talking about four schools with MSU, Michigan, Sconnie, and tOSU who are traditionally in the big dance. That takes away what few interested hockey fans there are from those schools as far as BTN viewers and traveling to goes.

Re: Big Ten 2015-2016

Until the Big Ten adds more teams with a hockey tradition and relatively strong fanbase, I don't expect attendance in large venues like the X to come anywhere near the WCHA F5. Maybe a few seasons down the road.

BS excuse. We saw fans from UNO come to Detroit. I'm sure when Alaska went to the WCHA, they brought fans.

None the less, very few LOCALLY even know what's going on. Both for St. Paul and Detroit. There are alumni from the entire B1G all over SE MI, and yet there are less fans at the Joe than Yost. That needs to be addressed.

LOL- as if something changed? Did we not have the same problem between the big BB teams when we were part of the CCHA and WCHA??? I remember seeing big crowds of MSU fans watching their games in the concourse of the Joe. Again, an excuse that isn't new. That isn't that big of an issue.

You guys are sounding like you are happier complaining about the lack of attendance than trying to fix it. As if the B1G Hockey Conference may go away. It's not. Time to deal with what we have and work with it.
