This is good news. PRRI is ranked as Least Biased by mediabiasfactcheck.

I am shocked Dump was ever in the 60s with white Catholics, though I think I am biased because half my neighborhood growing up were the type of white Catholics who vote for Ford and Reagan but not Goldwater or Nixon.

Another interesting fact. The country has never seen a situation where four different individuals each served at least eight years as President, in a row.

Jefferson, Madison and Monroe each served eight years, but JQ Adams only lasted four.

FDR, Truman and Ike each served at least eight years, but JFK was assassinated.

Clinton, Bush II and Obama each served eight.

Seems like if we were going to break that streak, Trump would be an unusual one to choose to do it.

Small nit, Truman did not serve 8 full years. He took office following FDRs death on April 12, 1945 and Eisenhower was inaugurated Jan. 20, 1953, so he was about 3 months short of 8 years. Truman's name appeared on an early primary in 1952 but following a loss to Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver he publicly announced he would not run. The 22nd amendment was adopted during Truman's presidency but did not apply to him as he was grandfathered. It prohibits people from being elected to the presidency more than twice or serving more than 10 years as president.

I came here to post this. Thanks! :)

You're right. Removes one more instance, so this would just be the second time, if Trump were re-elected and served the full term.

I'm looking forward to Biden, Harris, AOC, and Omar* breaking the streak between now and 2052. :)

* We'll have amended before then.

In all seriousness, is this the longest we have gone without a president dying in office? It's been 57 years.

Edit:

1841 (since 1789 -- 52 years)
1850 (9)
1865 (15)
1881 (16)
1901 (20)
1923 (22)
1945 (22)
1963 (18)

Yes, this is the longest we have gone without a sitting president dying.

if trump were to be re-elected and serve his full term it would be the first time in the history of our republic that 4 consecutive presidents served 2 full terms. trump does seem an unlikely candidate to top off that particular "first time in history" stat.

2 full terms generally indicate stability on the home front. Bush being re-elected might seem to rock that boat, but in 2004 we thought we had a strong, stable economy and no matter what anybody thought of the conflicts on the other side of the world, our all volunteer military means that kind of INstability barely registers with the vast majority of Americans on the home front. In fact, had we not had a volunteer military, Ws wars in the Muslim world would never have been fought.

You're right, of course. If the support has shifted prior to the election, he would have lost. But the reality was out there in November 2004, and that is partly why that vote was so shameful.

The sentiment may have been out there...but it was hardly the majority. Even the Left was split because Saddam was seen as evil enough to take down. Plus people assumed Colin Powell wouldnt lie to Congress about the justification...which he gladly did.

Even in the conservative flyover environment I live in, nearly everyone I associated with was well aware of the stupidity of that war at the time of the election and was left shaking their heads at the vote. Obviously, that may just be anecdotal evidence of who I associate with, nothing more, but I'm actually a fairly conservative person who hardly had to go looking for associates who shared that opinion. Also, most people had learned a lot about how ill-advised that war was between the time it was sold to the American public and the election a year and a half later. But it was a classic example of confirmation bias rearing its ugly head.

In comparison to dump, Dubya seems like a sensible vote. But I still maintain we voters embarrassed ourselves in 04.

There were a couple of reports that yesterday Trump and his people saw Electoral Map Projections and started to freak out. His handling of the protesters has had the reverse affect they thought it would. He isnt being seen as law and order like Nixon was by the White Suburbs. His numbers tanked with White Women (which has been happening since right before the midterms) and Evangelicals amongst other groups. The photo op seems to be the last straw with a lot of people who were in the "we will tolerate his crap if it gets us most of what we want". Same with turning D.C. into a Police State. (the only people defending that are the nutjobs who agree all protesters are looting terrorists)

This of course guarantees nothing...and I am not pretending otherwise. But he is going to need something big to shift in 5 months. Even if you assume Evangelicals go back in full force for him and he gets his base he needs to find a way to shift the trend with Suburban White Women or he is in a lot of trouble.

Re: Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

I listened to Limbaugh for a while the other day and he was having a really hard time. I realize he's dying of cancer, but there was no conviction in his rambling rant about how the death march on the little church was AN ACT OF BRAVERY and so on. He really seemed to be grasping at straws and I couldn't imagine any kind of a voter following along with it emotionally. He used to be really good at pulling people along.

You can shake your head at the stupidity and still not vote against the President who did it. Congress proved that during the same time period. Dubya was an idiot but his minions knew how to play their cards the exact right way and they had Faux basically shaming anyone who dared speak out. This place was very interesting back during the first part of the war...every 10 days or so someone would post an article as proof of WMDs and after the concert for peace people ripped Bruce Springsteen because he dared write a song that doesn't seem to support the war.

That is the other fatal flaw with Trump's strategy here. Civil unrest against a war, even if unpopular, is seen as treasonous. (that is why the nutters keep Antifa as their Boogeyman they need a big bad to justify the bad actions) Civil unrest against racial injustice (which is met by even further injustices) is a completely different animal especially in the era of the smart phone. NYPD can cry foul til they are blue in the face but when there are legit videos of cops beating up people on bicycles or attacking the media it just doesnt play. For the same reason people believe everything they see on CNN and Faux they believe what they see on video. Trump needed his Iran War to make this work.

If I were Rush, I'd be back on the Vicodins and chain-smoking $50 cigars. Nothing left to lose.

No doubt whatever all he’s on, with or without a doctor’s knowledge, is playing a part in the disconnect. It makes me a little sad to see him exit stage right as a sick, broken-down sycophant. Rush’s thoughts played a big part in our high school debates.

To be honest that actually sounds pretty chill.
