Was watching a Chicago show from 1970, at Tanglewood, and the guy was a monster.
They were going wimpy before he died, but his death sealed the end of that band
Yes.Are you saying the voice isn't an instrument?
Yes, vocals are an instrument. You can practice/train with them, therefore they're an instrument. Doesn't mean you can't be born with a leg up on talent, though.
To be truthful, McDonald saved the Doobie Brothers before he ruined them.
Ive seen the Doobies twice in last couple years, great shows. Micheal Mcdonalds work with Steely dan is great.I am going to stick with ruined them.
SRV was my favorite guitar player. When he was backed by Double Trouble imho they were one of the best. Died in a helicopter crash btw.Stevie Ray Vaughn on the guitar. He did some rock, but far more blues influenced. He was a talent cut short in that plane crash.
Anybody else I'd mention in the different categories have already been mentioned.

Doobies would have been a footnote in history without Mcdonald, he saved the band while Johnston was out sick. Takin it to Streets is a great album, after that maybe to much pop....That's cause McDonald's gone and they got Tom Johnston back. And stopped chasing after hits.
The sitar may not be a classic guitar in this context, but Ravi Shankar deserves mention here. Wicked good.
I've always liked what I've heard from him but there's not a lot of frame of reference there. He may be the Justin Bieber of the sitar for all we know.![]()
More seriously I don't know who plays the sitar for Kula Shaker but they've got some cool songs out there with the instrument.

Id like to see Mcdonald play with Dukes of September, Fagen and Scaggs.
