Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Don't bother buying a ticket at Providence. I've been there three times and each time I've just walked through the student section line and received a free ticket. Just don't make it blatantly obvious you're from NU.

Confirmed.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Does anybody know if there's a particular time they stop letting people into Matthew's after the game starts?

I can't make it to our game at UMass because I'm busy until 7, but was thinking I check out the apparently beautifully renovated Cathedral.

Nope. I think they stop checking/selling tickets in the 2nd or 3rd...I bet if you're there by 8 it won't be a problem, so long as it's not sold out (doubtful).

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I've seen them sell tickets until the begiining of the 2nd period.. so Quiddlet if you plan on paying.. you can still get in up until that point. I think after the 2nd period intermission, they do not sell tickets. No idea what the policy is on letting people in thereafter..

If you go, I hope you like the lobby renovations & mild improvements to the concession & restroom areas. I think you'll def like the new seats & the flat panels.. :) Pls come back & post your thoughts on the arena later (would love to get a perspective from another school that has a modern/ big time facility.. pretty nice as well). Now i won't be so nice on Nov 6 :)

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I got in towards the end of a game last year and just walked right in. If you get there late enough you probably wouldn't even have to buy a ticket but chances are you'll still be able to get in.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I'll alert the ticket office that a BU fan may try to sneak in late and they'll up your ticket price to $26. That should be fair, right? :D

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

What a weird gm..

anyway, Rawlings played well - and that's huge!!! :). The rest of our team.. i don't know if we made Bentley look good or they actually have a team this season.

I thought with 30 secs left & us leading 3-1, i def thought we were going to score our 4th goal..

They (the Falcons) definitely held their own at Matthews.. well played. Especially by their goalie. Also, why was every Bentley goal reviewed? I actually thought that the one (they thought they had) in the 2nd period on Rawlings was a goal.. it was not, but i'm still not sure why? This very well could have been a tied game.. or worse for us.

Anyway, take the ugly 'W' & move on. Pls let's score on a 5x3 when we get another chance.. please.

A bit off topic.. nice to see close to a sellout (or was it a sellout?).. the fans weren't that loud.. but it'll take a few gms to get there :). I have to say. the concessions (or lack of food) was horrible tonight. They were out of everything.. or it would take 15 mins to get your order. That is unacceptable to students.. imagine alumni .. (not good)! I know the folks back there try their best.. but NU has to do a better job with that or /otherwise get a catering company or change vendors.. i am sorry, the concessions were a disaster. (i wrote this for anybody from rink management that reads this).. pls help those folks with their staffing & food ordering

Peace.. i'm tired. Night all :)

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

OK the good news they didn't wreck the holy house of hockey with their recent renovations and my nearly 20 years of season ticket ownership and $1000's of donations to friends of NU Hockey have entitled my now fatter *** a much needed padded seat and perhaps the 4 best seats at center ice. Also, useful are the goalie cam and the megatron score board complete with instant replay... BFD. The old-time high toilets that made you feel like a gargoyle are history too...so over all I was failly excited.

However, we only played solid hockey for perhaps 10 minutes in the 2nd frame and that was enough against a weak and I stress that Bentley is a weak team. I also think by some act of under the table payola a Bentley goal was disallowed..and I don't mean the one scored on high stick issue. At any rate, please tell me that the best legitimate scorer on the team and Pt's threat Steve Quailer is not done for the season because if he is we are in big fing trouble with a capital T. Also that Jolly green giant in the net looks about as fluid as the public garden pond on a cold winter night. Who is worried?....I am. Sloppy play..skaters falling down in transition take aways in the nutral zone..need I go on.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Interesting. I actually thought the Huskies played pretty well tonight, but had a bit of early season rust when it came to finishing. They dominated puck possession and time in the opposing zone. They had a ton of steals and good plays whenever Bentley had the puck. Rawlings looked good in the second and third (especially on Bentley's 5x3 and right afterward). So I see nothing to be discouraged about.

BTW: does anyone know why Tuckerman didn't play?

Sorry that I could not get to the game last night, but glad that my Falcons made a game of it. USCHO report says that both reviews said the goals were kicked in. Hope that playing teams like the Huskies early in the season helps us again later this season, like tonight at Quinnipiac. :)

i was sitting directly behind the penalty box area and had a pretty good view of the monitor the officials were reviewing the goals on..... i dont know why that first bentley goal was disallowed. i was looking over the refs shoulder and other people were crowding around as well so i didnt have the greatest view, but it looked like a goal to me. i did find it funny they decided to review all of the visiting teams goals though. but i bet it had more to do with hockey east wanting to use their new equipment more than anything else. i hope they figure out when they should and shouldnt be reviewing plays because it was a little much last night.

i agree with those that said NU looked less than impressive. they controlled the puck for long stretches but failed to create any real solid scoring chances. they were not as dominant during 5 on 5 play as they should have been. i also think the bentley goalie looked better than rawlings, he seems pretty uncomfortable out there.

all in all happy with the win. the freshman look good. i think this team will get better as the year goes on and we will hopefully get quailer back which will only help

I second the question about Tuckerman. Healthy scratch? Injury in practice this week? I know somebody here has inside info.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I too didn't think we played purely. We controlled the puck for most of the game, Bentley's goalie made several very good saves. Rawlings was...eh. He played well for 99% of the third, 30% of the 2nd and 0% of the first. Reminded me of the 1st CC game. I think I'm really going to like Jake Newton, but he needs to tighten up a little in his own end.

Robbie Vrolyk continued to look great, he's bound to put some goals away this year. The Daniels brothers were largely invisible with the exception of the early (atrocious) goal that somehow found the back of the net.

Ultimately, I don't think we played poorly, but if we play like this against UNH, we're going to have problems. We aren't clearing pucks from the slot after rebounds like we were last year, we aren't bodying people in the corners like we were last year and we aren't pressuring the puck on the PK as well as we were last year.

Not bad, but not great; I'll take the win.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

It's official Steve Quailer is out for the year.
This year's frosh class is the coaches' best.
Alex Tuckerman is hurt (minor injury) and Chris Donovan is sick.
I thought that Matt Lipinski player very well, as did Randy Guizor.
Chiris Rawlings made too many passes to the Bentley players.
The Frosh D men are terrific; Chris Student is a smaller, but faster version of Drew Muench; and Jake Newton has NHL potential.
NU's best forward is number 9, and I don't mean the best frosh forward. #9
plays at a diffferent level than the other forwards. If he stays healthy and doesn't turn pro, I perdict that he will be NU's next All American.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

..yeah & UNH is goig to be ready after having played a super speedy Miami of OH team last night (UNH lost 6-3). And they're going against them again tonight (..g'luck Wildcats).

Nevertheless, they will be ready for a NU team that just came off a gm with Bentley. We'd better prepare hard for them nxt & Lowell right after.

Again, i think that gm last night could/should've ended in a tie.. it would perhaps light the fire we need!

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I didn't think it was as horribly played as RossiRules did even though that's a great NU screen name. If only the current students could have watched him mix it up. As I mentioned in another thread I really liked Vrolyk and Vermeessch even though the latter almost seemed to dangle at times. That only allows the D to set back up at this level.

Bentley seemed the same type of team as last year. A lot of posters thought last years game was closer than the score but I thought otherwise. This year wasn't much different except Calvi played pretty solid in net for them. Let's hope everyone continues to develop and nobody else gets hurt.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

The #18 Quinnipiac men defeated Bentley today 3-2. The QU women defeated Northeastern 1-0 in boston today as well. Go bobcats :D !
