Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I do not know much about the frosh recruits, but nearly all of our athletes at Bentley are serious students and all graduate with business degrees and multiple career options.

Must be the luckiest students in America.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Playing against #20 Northeastern on Friday will be a walk in the park compared to #18 Quinnipiac on Saturday. QU crushed Ohio State in a two game series last week. It should be a fun weekend!

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

..well then i sure hope the Falcons 'walk in the park all night'.. and just lv the skating to us
:)

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

You think? I thought for sure his entrance in the 2nd period was part of the plan all along. I doubt Cronin expected much out of... what's-his-face...

Yeah, I'm in the camp of Cro throwing Binnington a bone for riding pine for so long and not liking the results.

Ditto!! There should be a few opportunities in the season with this offense to give the other goalies a period here and there.

Dont bet on it. I think Bing getting in the exhib game was the bone thrown his way.

And keep in mind that there were multiple chances the past two seasons to get Bing in a game, and when he did, he flopped. And there were other games when he could have started, and did not, games that were meaningless. Like Game 2 of the RPI tournament last year.

Cronin is going to ride Rawlings. Maybe Mountain gets some time here or there if Rawlings is having a tough night or struggling or gets H1N1, but otherwise its going to be all Rawlings.

Rawlings was brought here to be the man, and he is going to get every opportunity to do so. The only person to keep him out of the net is going to be him

Maybe Ohio St is overrated?

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Although one of you Huskies red-squared me for a comment that I made defending Maine in one of your threads last season, I will take another chance. Here is part of a post that I made to the Bentley U. Falcons 2009-10 thread (hey, we even have our own thread now!:) ).

I really enjoyed the Bentley game at Matthews last year, and wish that I could attend this year, but I will be out of town. The energy in the student section (Dog Pound?) reminded me of the old days at Snively in Durham (the lack of fan energy at the Whitt is abysmal at times).

You should be red-squared just for that comment alone! (JK) Anywho, I still haven't had a chance to see the team or the arena yet since we bought our new place, so here's hoping that I will not be disappointed. Here's hoping I make it cause work is kicking my bum.

You won't be disappointed with the arena...team might leave some to be desired! Just keep chanting "He's not Brad Thiessen....he's not Brad Thiessen" in your head...it will help you to cope...

I don't think Rawlings will be playing every minute like Thiessen did though. If the Huskies are ahead by a couple goals (more than 2 - we all know that NU can't quite hold a 2-goal lead) then he might throw Mountain in there.

I'm kind of hoping that Mountain at least gets a little bit of time on Friday so that he can get some of his nervousness out, so if the team ends up needing him for a game or two he's not out there for the first time.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

No coach is going to pull a goalie with a lead. That NEVER happens.

Mountain should see some time...I'm actually a little surprised he didn't play last weekend. Look at how Cronin used Thiessen in Brad's freshman year...especially in the early season he often would give Geragosian one start until it was established that Brad was The Man in January or so. Now, with this early season schedule being so light, he may not get a chance for awhile...but I wouldn't be shocked for him to get a start at UML or bc, and certainly one of the two Maine games.

Binnington is the 3rd string. He didn't play a minute last year, and only 3 games his freshman year (and I believe one was in relief). That was Cronin rewarding him for his effort...but I don't think we'll see him at all (barring injury).

I agree that you will never see a goalie pulled when up by two goals. (unless the lead just went from 7-0 to like 7-5). I don't think we see Mountain this weekend vs. Bentley. Its pretty obvious, Cronin has seen an improvement in Rawlings each time he has seen game action. In the last game vs. CC he turned out to make some good saves and if nothing else prove that he can be an average goalie in this league. With the rest of the team, an average goalie means we can still fight for home ice, albeit, with a much different style from years past. He wants to keep the momentum going for Rawlings. Best case senario is that he ends up mirroring Millan's progression at BU last season (to a lesser extent of course).

As far as this weekend goes, I don't know what to predict, I think it will see more than 4 or 5 goals but I have no idea what to expect of the Bentley offense. I think NU will score 4 goals unless the netminder for Bentley stands on his head and then I put Bentley somewhere between 1 (if their new first line cant pick it up) to 3 (if they equalled the quality of play we saw from them last season at Matthews.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I don't get the Mountain bandwagon. Seemingly he was brought in to be the backup, the MJHL ain't exactly top level talent!

Until Rawlings truly shows he doesn't have it in him, I'd prefer to see him.

Where were the people clamoring for Binnington after Thiessen would have a bad game? There is no need.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

I don't know that people are clamoring to see Mountain based on any performance put forth by Rawlings thus far. I think people just want to get an idea of what kind of a tender he is, and we can't do that unless he gets some game time.

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

We will see Rawlings tomorrow evening. He was brought in to be "the man", and he will be until he shows himself to be inadequate. OTOH, don't sell Mr. Mt. short. He was the top goaltender in an average league, but that doesnn't mean he's an average goaltender. I'm told that he's shown very well in practice, which is encouraging, because it will be invaluabe to have a capable backup who can step right in when Rawlings can't go,

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

..and on another note (but mainly because i'm bored)..

Rawlings is tall.. & Mountain sounds tall.. :) (c'mon)..

Exactly. If Rawlings can go all the way, then I'm all for letting him play. But we won't know until the end of the season whether he can play every minute (or close to it). If Cronin has the faith though, that's fine. I'm just saying if we happen to have a huge lead then why not give Mountain some ice time?

Re: Bentley v/s Northeastern, Fri 10/16

Every arena is different but generally in the 15-20 range. Some are higher (BU is close to 30 for example) some are lower (Providence is like 10 I think). Don't forget the Lowell family pack.

Add in parking and gas and it's still not a brutal night. Get a couple guys to split the gas and parking and it's even better.

For like Burlington and Orono you can usually find a crappy motel for around 30 a night, once again split four ways and it's really not all that much.

Don't bother buying a ticket at Providence. I've been there three times and each time I've just walked through the student section line and received a free ticket. Just don't make it blatantly obvious you're from NU.
