Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

No, moving into new rink on campus in January 2018, and I assume that Bentley will visit RIT in fall 2017.

I've mandated that the Tigers visit in the fall as 128 is bad enough when it's bone dry, no need to add the added pleasure of snow to my trip down the road.:)

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Big things happening in the world of Bentley Hockey. First, we have confirmation that at least 2 of our players are attending NHL development camps! Max French is heading down to Arizona for the Coyotes camp next week, and Alexey Solevyov is attending the Dallas Stars camp a few days before that. No others thus far, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one more getting that opportunity.

We also got another new recruit this past week, Matt Riggleman, a lefty forward out of the USHL. Numbers wise, he's not the most impressive recruit, but the USHL experience should help him out and make him a dynamic player.

There are a few other things that can't be announced yet, but like I said, big things are happening in the world of Bentley Hockey. This program is on the up and up.

2016-2017 Schedule is out!

http://www.bentleyfalcons.com/sports/mice/2016-17/schedule

OOC: NU (2), UVM (2), UNH, Harvard

It's a bit disappointing to see the Harvard and UVM games occurring during breaks. I think either (or both) of those could have presented good student road trip opportunities. Looks like the NU games are the premier weekend from a casual fan perspective. The final weekend against HC is always fun, particularly when it means something in the standings.

Yeah and the UNH game is during our fall break as well. We (myself and The Top Shelf) are definitely going to have people at those non conference games, whether more students make the trip is doubtful. The schedule looks good other than that, having to play RIT, Bobby Mo and Air Force 4 times could be challenging.

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Agree that it is too bad that four of our six OOC games are over breaks, but good to see a very competitive schedule overall, which is necessary to get on to the next level. I should make the first four OOC games, but not yet sure about my plans for the end of December. However, Gutterson is a fine venue, and you Top Shelvers should love it.

Thanks! Just absolutely awesome news. Interesting that it will open mid-season!

I'll do my best to keep all the coverage of the announcement updated here!

I think this is a game changer for the "Eastern" schools in Atlantic Hockey. Many improvements have been made on the Western side, it's good to see an Eastern team improve their facilities.

Would be good to see also some closure of the gap in product on the ice between eastern and western AHC teams, and overall more OOC wins by AHC teams.

Improved facilities can only help the situation. Bentley has started growing the atmosphere part of the equation. Add in a decent facility and Bentley could final move up to the next level.

Bentley already moved up to the next level in 2009, and almost got back there in 2012, but has regressed dramatically since then. The talent has been there the past few years, but injuries have become a perennial problem, I think, although I suppose many teams can say the same. Bentley really needs to play at full strength for a 34-game regular season and get back to the AHC tournament this coming year.

Many teams are trying to solve the injury issue for whatever reason. I am newer to NCAA D1 hockey and in following the Atlantic conference i was astounded by the many injuries through multiple teams.

A couple great USCHO articles about the greater impact of the rink from Dan. Keep up the good work, love reading your stuff!

Just a few brief bios on our top 3 recruits for 2016... This is some pretty impressive stuff. No Bentley recruit other than Tanner Jago last year has ever had a resume even close to equivalent to any one of these 3, showing just how good this incoming class is.

Jonathan Desbiens

Brett Orr

Played 3 seasons of junior hockey, all with the Portage Terriers of the MJHL … served as alternate captain for Portage in his final season and led them to an MJHL Championship victory … won MJHL Top D-Man and was a finalist for CJHL Top D-Man in 2015-16 … had the 3rd most points amongst defensemen in the MJHL (42) in the same season … played in the World Junior A Challenge as part of team Canada West U19 and won the Gold Medal … MJHL First Team All Star (’15-16) … helped the Terriers win the MJHL Championship and Canadian Junior A National Championship (RBC Cup) alongside current Falcon Tanner Jago in 2014-15 … MJHL All Rookie Team in 2013-14 with a scoring line of 3-19-22.

Ryner Gorowsky
