Bentley @ RPI (RPI Holiday Tournament 11/27)

Re: Bentley @ RPI (RPI Holiday Tournament 11/27)

Sorry to bring this back up, but... the Bentley forward picked it up near the neutral zone (if I remember right). Well out of Merriam's range.

From what I saw and heard from the announcers, Bentley guy didn't get his stick on it til close to the hashmarks. Maybe I saw wrong.

5-2 final-a good win and much needed. Well played taking only 2 penalties and controlling lay most of the game. The bad-injury bug may have struck again. Hopefully we are not too shrthanded for tomorrow. We will need everyone healthy for Union.

RPI is still undefeated and untied (8-0-0) when they score three goals. Hopefully the offense keeps it up.

I also could have seen it wrong. It's definitely one of the things I want to re-watch tomorrow.

RPI finally wins a game they are supposed to win. They were in control the whole way.
Mirriam was as good as he had to be and now has a little more game experience.
A good game all around.
Bring on the Dutchmen

Can't recall the last time an Engineer victory look quite that easy. Three goal margin flattered Bentley. Tomorrow will be a lot tougher test.

The win percentage under those circumstances speaks only to the defense. Then again, the total number times we've scored 3+ is certainly encouraging.

What are the chances we see York tomorrow?

I assume Bergin is certainly out...

Bad injury bug? What did I miss?

Burgdoerfer sitting the third period is the only real issue as far as I know. I guess there has to be some degree of concern over York. Bergin we've known about, and his recovery is time-intensive so sitting out these meaningless games is, well... meaningless.

Re: Bentley @ RPI (RPI Holiday Tournament 11/27)

As you know i am superstitious about these threads-I wish Red Cloud would start a few of the important ones like the next 3 ECAC games-he seems to have the knack. :)

Dr. D, I had been thinking I would like to start next Friday's thread.

But, in deference to your superstitions, I will hold off until after 7:30 AM, to give Red Cloud (or at least somebody with a more impressive winning percentage than my .125) a chance to do the honors.

Feel free-besides it seems the rules were set up rather arbitrarily. Ralph seems to want to stick to a midnight rule for starting the thread. I have not had much luck starting them recently. I have always been superstitious when it comes to RPI hockey-I wore the same outfit to every game in 1985 and swore I would not change until we lost. Jenny thought I was crazy.

Re: Bentley @ RPI (RPI Holiday Tournament 11/27)

I know everyone wants to say "great win we made it look easy" and part of that is true, but in reality we looked bad, rusty, and totally confused for some of the second and all of the third.
Our d, mainly Burgdoerfer and Foss looked terrible both offensively and defensively, pretty much turning the puck over and pinching every chance they had.
Merriam was bad as expected, didn't face a single decent shot or pass and still gave up 2 goals. The first was pretty much a weak wrist shot from the point with no deflection and no screen. The second he went out to play and got caught between giving the Bentley guy an easy goal.

Bentley goalie robbed us twice and Polacek gave up a couple really nice looks for passes that got stopped.

Helfrich did not look himself, but I'm sure he'll be fine.

4th line had a lot of ice team and made great use of it

Jensen played great - when Bergin is back i'd think about sitting Burgdoerfer in favor of Jensen who does not make stupid mistakes constantly

If we play like this against Union tomorrow we're gonna get absolutely trashed, we just give up way too many turnovers and if Merriam is in net most shots are gonna have a chance of scoring

All in all, an unimpressive win against the worst team we've faced all season
