Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

...

RIT is a masterful program, and the parallels are there between what the Tigers did and what the Falcons are actually trying to do right now.

Here's to an RIT-Bentley final at the BCA in 2013 ... I'm tired of seeing AFA there. All the best (almost) for the season Bentley fans.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

BTW, is it me, or does the falcon in the new athletic logo look an awful lot like Sonic the Hedgehog.

I can hear the jokes now.... "In goal for The Fighting Hedgehogs....."

I like the blue and gold shield with the B, but that logo is bad. It looks like a cartoon logo of a team that just formed. Bentley's got a tradition of athletics, and I really liked the B with the falcon over the lightning bolt. It felt like a logo dating back years. Now it's got this modern cartoon. If they break out any uniforms like the Notre Dame ones for the Miami game, I'm pulling support.

My problem with that old falcon/lightning bolt was that it "literally" was identical to Air Force's old logo. I think they found a public domain logo and slapped it together. And the old Atlanta Falcons crest on the football helmets was a copy as well. This is the first piece of professional original marketing for athletics in the school's history, I believe. That being said, I definitely see the cartoon appearance.

Only 45 days until season begins against the River Hawks at Tsongas. Any word whether Flex and the UML mascot will take the ice for some extracurricular activities between periods?

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Interestingly enough, Bentley did not reissue #8 on their roster this year. The roster is updated, and Excalibur has a story up about the new players. Jamie Nudy's 11 is also not reappearing this year.

Micah Williams is no longer a member of the team as well.

So, four frosh front-liners and three frosh d-men to be worked into various line ups. And, a frosh goalie will keep pressure on Komm and Dougherty.

I do not see captains listed yet; ideas? Campanelli and Hartung?

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

So UMass-Lowell will NOT be the season opener for hockey. Bentley will instead play the River Hawks on 12/30 instead of 10/13. The season opener will be a 7 PM game on Tuesday 10/16 against Sacred Heart.

I wonder what happened?

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

An early version of the schedule had UML playing Bentley in a home-and-home, with the second game on that 12/30 date.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

I heard some rumblings on campus this week that it was UMass-Lowell's decision and that Bentley wanted the game kept on 10/13. It is on the Bentley schedule as 12/30.

Something smells foul about this.

The UMass Lowell site has the game listed as 12/30/12 (Sun @ 4:00 pm). Apparently the Tsongas site hasn't been updated.

Thanks for heads up, boblav and humanoid. Actually, this schedule change is fine by me, as now my brother from Colorado who will be visiting over the holidays will have another game that he can attend. And, maybe the Catamounts will put the River Hawks into a snooze trance the night before.

The original schedule had Lowell playing Bentley, after UVM. With the change now, Lowell will have 20 days off prior to that matchup.

With the Bentley-Northeastern game on Jan 9, I'm going to assume this is a UML move. it is always the preference of Coach Soderquist to play only one OOC around January 1 to keep the team's legs fresh before getting back into conference play. This can't be something he would've wanted with Northeastern on 1/5 and the road trip to RIT on 1/11.

Good interview posted with Alex Grieve. Season is almost a month away!!!!

I wish that Dan would stop writing about throwing fish on the ice at the JAR, because if a fish gets thrown on the ice again this season, it will likely be an automatic 2-minute minor against the Falcons, which could have killed them in that game last season. Only UNH, and their long ago expelled Zeta Chi fraternity, is allowed to continue the tradition of throwing a fish at Lake Whitt without penalty after the Cats score their first goal.
