Re: Bentley Falcons Official 2011-2012 Thread
More often than not, if the inability to play the third period is the issue, than it's almost always conditioning. Teams like Bentley usually get into track meets, but in this case, the Falcons might not be conditioned to play the track meet game.
The other issue is the 2nd period, which is adjustment based. Bentley always plays teams tough in the first, but the second period against UMass and against Michigan produced some horrible shot discrepancies. I think theopponent gets taken back by Bentley's ability to come out and pound for the first 20, adjusts to it in the 2nd 20, then watches Bentley come out full guns blazing and intensity for the 3rd. The 2nd period breakdown is what they really have to avoid, because over time they'll be able to play that third period.
I like the team's early chemistry, but it needs to pick up all season. Big game tonight against Quinnipiac...I hate calling OOCs must-wins, but this might be as close as it gets with the way the team's played early on.
I am trying not to get too discouraged, but I getting a little frustrated by the continual "2 Period Hockey" being played. This was a major problem last year, and it seems to be continuing this year. We are in every game going into the 2nd INT, then the wheels fall off the wagon, seemingly every night. What's the deal-e-o? Fatigue/conditioning? Focus? Are the opposing coaches figuring out the game plan and making adjustments in the third period? I know absolutely nothing about coaching hockey (so I should probably shut my pie hole), but is their an issue with not anticipating the opposing teams 3rd period adjustments, and not playing a little more of a chess match for the third period?
