Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Matches my rumors, except that Penn State was X 2.

Also heard BU was asked several months ago, but is having none of it for '14-'15. :-P

Penn State could be for two, but I don't know yet.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

I wonder what implications this has for HC. Obviously leaving for an assistant position in the ECAC seems like a better career opportunity, so does this slap to the face make HC want to start dumping money into hockey or remain complacent? Hmmmm.

Pearl makes it official.

SBN College Hockey tweeted out that it was about funding. I have not heard anything about that and will try to figure out details of what's going on.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

With UConn gone and now this Holy Cross intrigue, gotta wonder about the future of the AHA-eastern pod.

I'm sure the funding argument came because HC is going to be funneling money into its other programs. Although attached to the same building, the hockey rink pales in comparison to the basketball arena. It lacks a true press box, although there is a platform a center ice from which filming can take place. And hockey is clearly a sport falling way behind football and basketball in terms of funding. Plus I'm sure there was tension with a new AD that's come in. All speculation, but I'm not shocked to see at least one coach decide to go.

The Holy Cross message boards mention something about lacrosse too being in the same boat. They want increased spending, but it's not warranting the same type of separation as basketball and football - revenue sports. And I understand that.

Patriot League football just upped its scholarship limit, allowing them to be scheduling by FBS teams. That means Holy Cross will now play teams like BOston College in football, whereas the scholarship limit before wouldn't let them.

That inevitably leads to an increase in spending. I'm willing to bet there was something to the effect of that, that hockey wasn't getting more scholarships or improved facilities. It happens. He's used the threat of leaving before to get raises and whatnot, and he left after 2 years to go to Brown as an assistant for one season before returning. Maybe there's something to a career aspiration. Holy Cross was never going to match the spending UConn invested into their team. Simple enough.

The AHA's eastern pod will be just fine. They're still looking for a 12th team, but the league itself is more than viable right now. The west is strong, and Army is getting some of its best recruiting classes since the pre-war era in the early-2000s. Bentley is investing heavily in its hockey program. AIC is making improvements and starting the investment, and Sacred Heart is cleaning things up. These things will take time, but it will iron itself out.

Good analysis, Dan.

I am not as concerned about Army and Holy Cross as I am about AIC and Sacred Heart. The AHA really needs to get that twelfth team replacement made sooner rather than later to make the scheduling more consistent.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Thanks for posting schedule here, schiegs.

That is a much less aggressive OOC schedule than in past years, and Bentley needs to make the most of it over the first month. Also would be great to catch the Q napping in their opener, but I doubt that will happen. The Bobcats picked up fifth year D-man Justin Agosta from UNH, along with some highly touted frosh to reload.

Sorry! Forgot to post this here! Thanks for the credit though :)

No apologies necessary, mar; you are our main AHA man.

So, in following Fighting Sioux's updates to his Greatest Teams thread, sure would be great to find that the Falcons have climbed out of #59 by this time next year.

if Bentley's schedule is out, this must mean the AHA schedule is done. Anyone have connections to get AIC's in conference schedule. (Need it for work scheduling)

Looks liked someone ****ed up. The schedule isn't there anymore if you click on the link.

Army and RIT schedules are out as well. I wouldn't count on getting schedule info for AIC. From what I've heard, schools like to keep schedules top secret.

I have some AIC dates in my composite schedule linked in my signature. Those are from schools that have released schedules already. Historically, AIC has released their schedule in late June or July.

I have no connection to WaP except as a reader.

Thanks for posting, Ralph. I think that they summarized Bentley pretty well. No mention of Bentley's Power Play, which was second in Div 1 last season. Bentley loses Brett Gensler, who had a nice comeback to finish tied for fifth in Div 1 scoring, following his Walter Brown Award as a sophomore and a so-so junior year. First defensive pair is back, with top scoring D-man in Div 1 Steve Weinstein along with Matt Blomquist. Biggest question wil be in net, as noted.

Bentley re-posted their schedule, changing the home game vs Sacred Heart from 12/20 to 2/13. I think this makes more sense, rather than having an off weekend so close to the end of the season.

Thanks for posting here, too, mar.

Probably more appropriate for a generic AHA thread, but cannot say that I am enamored by the loss of one OOC game. The AHA should be trying to schedule more rather than fewer OOC games, IMHO. With Hockey East now up to 12 OOC games, this might be a huge missed opportunity. But, perhaps AHA tried and failed to increase the number of OOC games with HE? This coming season will be the first in a while that Bentley does not have a HE game on their schedule. Of course, many who contribute to our Bentley threads know that I would like to see the Falcons get a crack at the Cats on Lake Whitt's wide sheet.

I would support more OOC games too. I wonder if the league doesn't because they know how difficult it can be for AHA to schedule these OOC games, especially away.
