Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

BSU has picked up another verbal!

Tyler Vold, D, Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL). The 5'11", 180 lbs player from Andover, MN, has tallied 6G-29A-35 Pts., in 48 GP, with 10 PIM and a +17 rating.

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

Good first period with lots of chances from the beavs! Couple clankers unfortunately. Both goalies playing well so far. Lets get the W.

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

The Beavs with 3 in the second to take a 3-0 lead (Leo Fitzgerald, Zach Whitecloud-PP, Kyle Bauman)! 7:22 left in the game.

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

Just got back from the Sanford Center. Very nice win for the Beavers. We had a flurry of action early on but their goalie was impenetrable. The Cats hit the pipe a couple times and then all of a sudden BSU got that first goal in the second and then a couple more and it was over. Bitzer did a great job of holding them off. I thought the Cats were looking good, but just couldn't connect. Their 5 on 5 was more aggressive than their power play. They just kind of dilly dallied around passing puck back and forth. I thought we did a nice job circling around with the puck for good position and our spacing looked pretty good.

As a 33-year BSU prof including 13 years as the head mens basketball coach and a 74' and 78' NMU grad, I couldn't lose. I enjoyed sporting my 1970-71 NMU olive green and gold letter jacket with my BSU sweatshirt underneath. Not too many NMU folks tonight, but expect more tomorrow.

Well... just got back from the Sanford Center and the Cats took it to us. Actually, both goalies played well (Tolvanen gave up 2 and Bitzer 3), but obviously, Tolvanen was outstanding turning back 46 shots. We hit the pipe a couple times early plus he just wouldn't let us penetrate. What ticked me off was our 21 minutes of penalties; pretty sloppy for such an important game. Actually, I didn't want to go back tomorrow but will. Great to see my alma mater do well, but not at the Beaver's expense.

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

Nice first period by the Beavers to go up 2-0! They did lose Harms to a 5 min major and a game misconduct, but they have to keep their foot on the gas!

Broke down and bought the WCHA.tv feed and it is good!

3-1 hard fought victory over Northern Michigan. Time for the Beavers to get ready for Bowling Green! Get your tickets early for this series.

Congrats Beavers. Nice start but made me sweat it out in the stands. The Cats had several chances the last 4-5 minutes, but either Bitzer was tight or the Cats just miscued.

I was not impressed with our attendance. 2904 Friday, 2767 Saturday and 2107 Sunday. Is it too late to call off the KAWE Blackout? It was a good try, thinking fans would show up if they couldn't watch the games at home on TV. Maybe it's too early to see if this is a good strategy, but didn't seem to work this weekend.

Didn't work at all. Bottom line is for the majority of the season and past seasons games are just too expensive for people. Continue to keep prices in line with the rest of the WCHA or close to where they are now and people will start to show up.

We were in the stands for Saturday's game (first time for the year since the kiddos joined hockey this winter). I thought there was more than 2767, the sides of the arena were pretty full, but then again, the end was sparse.....

Here are the attendance numbers from the weekend. BSU was second behind Mankato according to the reported numbers:

Mankato: 2887, 2984
Bemidji: 2401, 2767, 2107
Michigan Tech: 2377, 2392
Bowling Green: 1697, 2055

Gotta see if we can make the trip again this Saturday!

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

The Sanford Center Box Office is supposed to re-open today after yesterday's Pipeline protest closed it up......

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

Just got back from the Sanford Center (this is becoming a broken record) and they got us 4-3 in late OT. Both teams were gassed but BG found a way to score at the end. We had a couple great opportunities, one was a miscue on our part which was a goal 3-4 times, and the rest was great goal tending by BG. Ugh!

Was a heartbreaker... Gotta win 2 straight now. Don't know that we will be able to do that against BG. I have a feeling we're gonna be pretty tired.

Re: Bemidji State Beavers: 2016-17

Well...BG got us again (2-1). We had trouble clearing the puck through the zone. More 5-minute penalties didn't help our scoring chances and we let one puck slip by tonight that we normally would stop. BG is a good team. They will compete well next weekend either at Tech or Mankato.

Congrats to the Beavers on a great year. Only picked in the middle of the pack at best by most and to win the McNaughton Cup was remarkable.

Thanks Beavers, especially seniors for your efforts!

BG just has our number in the postseason. Was a great season though. Only graduate 7 though, 2 goalies who aren't huge losses, 1 Defenseman and 4 pretty important forwards. If we can get a couple forwards to step up and replace just some of the production lost from Arentz, Harms, O' Connor, and Marinaccio I think we'll be even better next year. That is as long as we don't have any guys leave unexpectedly
