Re: BCS 2013-14: This space for rent

This....100x this?

I understand the reasoning behind Notre Dame playing there, but what kind of draw is Penn State going to be? Is it some sick brotherly connection between the Catholic Church and Penn State as being institutions of child molestation?

Due to their bowl ban, O'brien wanted to find some sort of replacement, and Ireland wanted to bring two teams in to play again. It worked for PSU, and with a huge alumni base, I'm sure they're hoping they travel well. Now that O'brien is gone it isn't quite as funny as O'brien vs. O'leary.

PSU should travel well for it, but I really can't see Central Florida really bringing a crowd with them, short of them going to the local pubs with UCF shirts and tickets and promises to hand out free beers to anybody in one of their shirts after the game.

I agree, but I presume there will be some sort of local interest as well; It'll be a good crowd.

Re: BCS 2013-14: This space for rent

After much soul-searching, the SEC has made what I'm sure was a very tough decision to keep an 8-game conference schedule. I know, I'm shocked too. But they're not going to let their teams have it easy, no sir. They've demanded at least one OOC game each year be against one of the other BCS conferences (or whatever we're calling them now). Sorry Citadel, Troy, and Georgia State, you'll have to find something else to do that week. I hope finding such teams to fill their schedule isn't too tough. Of course, you might say a 9th conference game is another way to ensure another matchup against a legit opponent, and that it would accomplish the same result as demanding one BCS opponent, and that avoiding it is a transparent attempt to avoid 7 more losses for teams in the conference, but I say how dare you besmirch such a great American organization.

So basically the AAC becomes the new Sun Conference.

Yes, because we hear about all kinds of public violations against the law that become public information. ESPECIALLY when it involves the Heisman winner.

I think the question was, if this had happened this past October (before he was the Heisman winner) do we hear about this? I doubt it, unless the owner is a Florida fan.

Exactly... You have a kid in college with "questionable" decision making ability... Add in the media hounding the kid all day, every day and this is the result... Non-stop "news" coverage out of Tallahassee...

You wouldn't hear about anything until after football season. FSU suspends Winston from the baseball team, but of course not from the football team. Guess the baseball team at FSU is held to a higher standard than the football team. FSU looks worse by the moment in this fiasco.

Re: BCS 2013-14: This space for rent

I've got:
Tier 1:
1. Michigan State
2. Ohio State

Tier 2:
3. Nebraska
4. Iowa
5. Wisconsin

Tier 3:
6. Michigan
7. Minnesota
8. Penn State
9. Indiana
10. Northwestern

Tier 4:
11. Maryland
12. Illinois
13. Rutgers
14. Purdue

I didn't really know how to rank Tier 3. UM could be very well be a train wreck, if IU gets a semblance of a defense they could be dangerous, Minnesota showed some real promise in the second half of the season, Fitzgerald can always coach a team up, and PSU has the new coach.

Re: BCS 2013-14: This space for rent

8 on offense, losing 3 lineman so that could pose an issue but all the skill positions are returning.

5 on defense, losing Bullough, Dennard, Lewis, Allen, and Hoover along with a couple two deep guys that played a lot.

That much talent leaving the defense does concern me, but I take solace in one of my favorite stats from the Big Ten Championship: We played 55 guys, OSU only played 32. That depth and game experience will be helpful in reloading.

I liked MSU at one, but thought that with Miller, and an incredibly explosive offense, as well as their defense becoming a year older and stronger, that they'd be better. I think Michigan's run game will be much improved, and I question Wisconsin's ability to reload a defense, as well as the group of pass catchers they lost. No Abbredaris, Pederson, Duckworth, or White. Their leading returning pass catcher is Jordan Fredrick who had ten receptions for 106 yards. Interesting stat, Melvin Gordon caught one pass last year.

I do think Iowa and Nebraska can reach that upper tier this year, but both have would need great offseasons from their questionable groups. (LB and Secondary for Iowa, O Line and QB for Nebraska)

Re: BCS 2013-14: This space for rent

Not a bad start for the B1G in the NFL Draft.

Round 1

11. Tennessee Titans: OT Taylor Lewan, Michigan

15. Pittsburgh Steelers: OLB Ryan Shazier, Ohio State

24. Cincinnati Bengals: CB Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State

31. San Fransisco 49ers: CB Bradley Roby, Ohio State

Re: BCS 2013-14: This space for rent

BTW, call me biased all you want, I think it's crazy that Lewan went 11. I'd take Brandon Scherff over him in a heartbeat.

Let's be honest, it was an OK start. The SEC had 11 and the ACC had five. We tied with something called the the American Athletic Conference with four.
