Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

which is funny because gaudreau ended up scoring to tie the game on a fluke goal

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

Look like it hit something and took off, was on the other side though

Ice was in bad shape in 3rd / OT

What happened on that? I was down at the other end and it just looked like a hard slap shot that got through.

It must have hit a brown player because it clearly deflected off something and up into the top corner. It was funny because he is not the guy you see taking slappers. It may be the first time I've ever seen him wind up.

Interesting game for sure.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

I think they need to get Cangelosi going and move lines around if needed to do it.

Also thought McLeod showed me something tonight in a good way.

One thing Brown was tremendous at was clearing pucks out of their end on the PK once they got to the puck first. Brown was very efficient in a lot of ways tonight. They passed amazingly well I thought as well.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

OK Here's my take. First of all.... that was a FANTASTIC hockey game! A frickin' war! That's the way the game used to be played in Hockey East before the refs wussified it. Brown came out flying, and hitting everything in sight. Johnny G. took a vicious slash across the hand in the beginning of his line's first shift. That's one way to slow him down. Big hits all game long. Good stuff!

Anyway, a hard fought battle both ways and each team earned every inch of ice they got. I thought we really started to get the better of them about the mid way mark of the 2nd in a 1-1 game. We were really starting to wear them down and had our way in the offensive end cycling the puck and creating some great chances. Then the freak Brown goal with 2:17 to go to make it 2-1. Ugh!

Third period we started with the PP and had some unbelievable chances. Hit pay dirt at even strength 2 minutes in to tie it, then the softer than soft Brown wraparound 0:25 later to make it 3-2. The remainder of the third played out like the 2nd, with us wearing them down and getting some fabulous chances. That kid in net from Brown really did stand on his head in the third. My god he made some incredible saves. I texted sterlippo at one point and said we should be up by at least one goal, but we're down one. About thirty seconds after that text, Johnny Hockey ties the game. :)

Gotta say, with some of the saves that kid was making, I just didn't think it was going to be our night, so I'm very OK with the tie. It really was a war out there and neither team deserved to lose that game.

Also... I believe Marty Hughes was a linesman tonight. I didn't have any issues with any calls which is rare but the officials were very nasty tonight in particular to BC players and even coaches. They were even chasing BC players after whistles going to the bench to yell at them as they left the ice. It was really embarrassing; they called a decent game but... Not impressed with their conduct.

Yup, he became the man in my book tonight. Scrum around the net, whistle blows, Demko sprawled on the ice across the crease, a Brown player laying on the back of Demko's legs. McLeod, with no helmet on, is pushing the Brown guy off his goalie. Ref comes over and restrains McLeod. Brown player goes to get up by rolling over Demko's legs. McLeod will have none of it and rolls him the other way. And again it happens. Screw the ref... McLeod ain't moving until this guy stops touching his goalie and gets away from Demko.

Welcome to ECAC refs! They're the very definition of bush league, even on a good night.

Ref Roy seemed to have a hair across his butt with McCoshen. Sent him to the box in the 2nd, with words, and 3:00 after he gets back on the ice, sends him again. I turned to my son in-law and said, "the coaches better send #3 to the showers now or we're going to be killing penalties the rest of the night. That ref is calling 'em against #3 with attitude." Thankfully, things settled down, but then Brown started getting some phantom calls against them. Go figure.

kdiff77... does #25 always hit like that? Holy crap, that kid could stop a train in its tracks. Robertson is no slouch either.

Not really! He's always been a sound defenseman and jumps into the attack sometimes. But he played a terrific game today, and he was very physical. I hope he keeps it up.

Yep. He also had an impressive battle on their first PK of the game. He got low, knifed his way around a brown player and was able to clear the puck. Not an easy play. That and your mention of that 3rd period nonsense stood out to me. McCoshen and Santini got angry as the game started getting chippy. There was a lot of nonsense that luckily didn't escalate.

BC almost got spooked right out of the old auditorium. I'm impressed by how Brown has been playing recently.

FYI, Jean Yves-Roy is still listed on the HE site as a conference ref. Hughes is also.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

As one who has been a large critic, thought destry looked good this weekend especially Friday. It finally didnt look like he ran a marathon before each shift

Onion Man tends to make bold (some might say senseless) predictions when we have a big game. When he's right, it's great (upsets over QU and Yale last year). But most of the time, he just does it to get a rise out of the opponents. :)

Wasn't such a bold prediction. All the stars pointed to a strong Brown effort (which is what they got).

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

Someone said they were tired after playing Friday night but I just think Brown brought their "A" game and played BC close and physical. But the main thing was beating PC Friday in a league game and looking good at it. I'm impressed with some of the seniors grit this year, like MacLeod and Hayes. Usually in the past, you would never see them get physical or stick up for a team mate as much like they have this year. The streets were flowing with water like a stream on the way home around the streets of Brown U.
