BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Champs

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

Anyway, nice Piszpot win last night.

Northeastern impressed me. They really were running with BC and dictated the game during that 2nd period and were banging BC up on the walls pretty good. It was very odd to see, not many teams can pull that off. Witt is a very good goalie. Where this guy came from I'll never know but he is a very very good goalie.

Was waiting for some secondary scoring and thought it would be Brown or Cangelosi. Jeez, Straight almost scored the winner in the 3rd period with a nice cut-in move. That would have been something else.

I'm always impressed with the way this BC team functions and the culture they are able to cultivate annually. Brown last night was interviewed by Channel 5 and he immediately said how happy he was to win it for the freshmen and get them their first Piszpot. And it was genuine. I thought Arnold was a shoe-in for the C but Brown is a great captain and the team seems to have the intangibles that will help down the line.

Once again we see BC being able to win any type of game. That also is a good indicator.

Liked how the refs let them play. NU got 3 pretty soft calls. They run Demko no call. They haul down Sit and no call, but a kid goes falling into the goalie by himself before Linell touches him and they call the penalty on Linell. OK. Gaudreau got hooked down so bad in the 3rd period by the NU bench it was laughable. Whatever, made for an interesting game and didn't cost BC luckily.

Demko is obviously a pimp. This kid coming in at 17 keeps him around a year longer than he would have if he came in next year as an 18 year old. This was a huge recruiting coup when BC pulled him in. Have to think we can get 3 maybe even 4 years out of him, hopefully. With this kid, BC is a national title contender in any year.

Trophy season, yay. On to the next one. BC will probably win a trophy (the Dick Umile Memorial Trophy) this weekend away from Conte.

Northeastern is the 2nd best team in HE, bet we'll see them at the Garden again.

All night Brown was absolutely flying. Like you, I thought Arnold was a slam dunk for the C, but I like having the divide between the most talented players and the one who wears the C.

I really want to see this team at full strength cause IMO they are on another level when it's McCoshen back there & Linell up front. The secondary scoring worries me and I think Linell replacing Straight balances the 4 lines out better. Thought Straight played well and if he scored the GWG I might as well have given up, good power move to the net by him though.

Appreciate the no calls as well but there were some soft ones called against BC, Linell's in particular. It's clear Gaudreau has a rep w HE refs of going down too easy so unless it's a blatant trip he isn't going to get that call.

Demko is amazing.

I expect to see BC, Lowell, NU and Providence there at the Garden, unless two of those teams end up matched up in the quarterfinal, which looks unlikely. Vermont is also looking pretty legit right now, too.

I got a tweet from @johnbuccigross Gaudreau will be shown some love on SC around 11:45pm EST
John Buccigross ‏@Buccigross 4h
@kgaudreau3 11:45ish if this Kanas Kansas St hoop game ends on time.. .
what were u saying?????
Also I don't know why you're claiming to be @kgaudreau3 when that's not you. It's a bit creepy that a Calgary fan is creeping on Gaudreau's little sister's twitter account, no?

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

Johnny Gaudreau is the best player I've ever seen in college hockey. I've seen Kariya, etc but for my money this kid is the GOAT. If he stays all 4 years it's scary to see the overall numbers he could put up.

Calgary will put incredible pressure on him to sign after this season. If he comes back for his senior year, he can wait it out after the season ends, their rights will expire, and he becomes a free agent able to sign with any team. That's what Blake Wheeler did.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

Someone who I thought played really well last night too was Austin Cangelosi. He nearly had a couple goals himself and the way he takes off gives me flashbacks of a couple other former Eagles back in the day. He's already become a very solid contributor this year, but will be a very important player for years to come.

Gaudreau is certainly on the short list of the most talented NCAA players but it helps that Kariya elected to leave early into his sophomore year. Imagine the numbers he would've put up as a junior in college.

Wouldn't they prefer that he stay at BC his senior year and bulk up first ? I weigh more than he does and one more year at BC will not hurt him when he'll probably be on their minor league team with his size or lack of it.

They would prefer to sign him now as the pro club loses leverage if the player stays through his senior year. The pro team loses his rights at the end of July of senior year I believe. The player then becomes a free agent and they could lose him to another team. If they sign him now he can bulk up with them and not risk losing him.

If it is July 2015 he can easily sign in March or April whenever the season ends his senior year. Couldn't he ? Does he want to get degree first ? But I see your point now.

women win pot

also, uconn won at pc tonight, 3-2. i know there really isn't anything to like about the university of connecticut but i find myself rooting for cav. hope he does a good job there and gets himself in position for a better job down the line. things are going well for him in year one.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

Genuinely curious, is it common every week for BC to block as many shots as they did on Monday? I haven't seen any BC game other than the three versus us, and it seemed like a lot of the shots we took hit a shin or a stick and never got serious pressure on to Demko. Who by the way is even better than I thought he'd be coming in...I know you don't need it said again, but this kid is a stud. Gonna be a rock in your net for the next few years.

no, just like it isn't common for NU to go a whole game with out a penalty

agreed, definitely feel it both ways. happy for cav though.

I'd say that's pretty fair. Read on EA it was the first NU game in 12 years without them getting called for a penalty.

Surely they block shots but $h!t these kids are armored head to toe, who doesn't?

Also read there's a chance McCoshen is back this weekend.

Seems like there's a large contingent of BC fans heading up for the weekend.

It's not just BC. it's been there for awhile, some teams that is good at blocking shooting lanes, and keeping the opponent to the perimeter. I remember that Denver team that won a championship or 2 that played great defense and even killed penalties while being outnumbered by Maine badly. The equipment is much better today to absorb the impact of a 100 mph puck and the strategies of the game.

I think Pikes organized a rate for some hotel at $99 per night. I'll be driving up too, so if you plan to go you'd better run over to BC and get some tickets.

No rush to get McCoshen back if he's not ready. But it will be good to see him back and Linell back at forward.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

The whole JG staying a 4th year to screw over the Flames has been beat to death by the fans, most recent update on that came today:

Sportsnet 960 @Sportsnet960
Al Morganti on #Flames prospect Johnny Gaudreau: "I'm told that he feels he can't do anything more in college. He'll turn pro with Calgary."

Also BChockeyJunkie is not just some random Flames fan stalker like the rest of us, there is some weight behind that information.

And further, thanks to everyone who helped me with the tickets, I got in contact with the ticket office and we are in the process of figuring out when they will become available. Can`t wait to see BC in the QF`s!

Storm coming in Thursday night into Friday with several inches of snow. Give your self plenty of time.

I don't think anyone here is saying JG is going to stay to screw over the Flames. Some folks have inquired and some folks have responded to the rules of the CBA. Nothing more, nothing less. Personally, even if JG stays for his senior season, I think he stills signs with the Flames. Just a hunch.

How many of you coming to Boston in March?
