Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

scsutommyboy

Frozen four or Bust!!
Well both teams come off of disapointing weekends and start to the season. The pressure is really on the Gophers and Don Lucia. I expect the Gophers to come out ******ed off and flying. It should be a intersting weekend.

I would hope both teams would come out with some jump.
It shows they have heart.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Where's the red angry face for this Thread? It seems only appropriate considering the records of these two teams so far this season.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Tommyboy = Epic Fail :D

As unimpressive as they've been so far, I can't see the Gophers getting swept at home for the first four WCHA games. I think we're looking at a split or an SCSU win and a tie, so I'll be very pleased with 3 points on the road this weekend.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

The Huskies have played one solid game in the first four. If the Husky team that played last night shows up both games next weekend the huskies will sweep. Of course that is a big if.....

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Anybody else going to either game? I've got tickets Friday as normally I'm covering high school football but MEA week bailed me out, and now that I've learned the second game's Sunday then that wedding may not cost me a game either.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

I thought we were off next weekend. Oh well...this is almost as good.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

If our team walks into your arena not ready to compete like last Friday, it is the Gophers that will have the bye and easy 4 points. It will be an interesting weekend. I am not willing to make any predictions on this series. Both teams have plenty of question marks to answer.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

This weekend is not any fun when the Gophers suck. Even if the Huskies sweep it won't be a big deal since we are suppose to be better than them and should sweep.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

It's not a surprise that UNO had success this past weekend vs UMN-TC. They have a nice squad with some veteran players and a coach that will challenge you to run thru a wall for him. The Gophers have no identity right now but are trying to create it with some good young players. However, it's upperclassen that will ultimately create your success in the long run.

There's little seperation in the Huskies and Gophers right now. I disagree with TommyBoy that the Huskies have had one good effort in four. The effort against RIT was good and the second Miami game was a NCAA tourney type battle. SCSU has 8 seniors and success the first half of the season will be ditectly related to the play of those seniors. The second half will see an outstanding crop of first-year players blossom. As such, I expect SCSU to be better the second half of the year. I expect MN to better the second half as well.

This weekend is a toss up. SCSU is still struggling on the PP and until that is corrected it puts them behind the eight ball. The Gophers are at home so that should be an advantage. If SCSU gets in penalty trouble and they don't keep an eye on Bariball they could be in trouble. For some reason Hoeffel plays well against SCSU and I expect him to be a factor as well.

I'd have a tough time predicting the outcome of this series.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Speaking of Rogers, Nick Jensen could be the best offensive defenseman on the ice this weekend. His poise through 4 games has been impressive. If he's here for 4 years, I'd be willing to suggest a comparison with Duvie Westcott who was absolutely a dominating offensive defenseman his last year at SCSU. Jensen was unflappable vs a strong Miami offensive squad and was 1-1-2 w/5 shots and E on the +/-. The kid can outright skate, jump into the play, hold the puck at the blueline and anchor a point on the PP. He dangled his way through two Miami defenders this weekend on a rush that just made you say "Wow". If he continues his play I'd be shocked if he doesn't make All WCHA Rookie.
