Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

I have yet to see anyone defending the cop in the Tamir Rice situation. AT THE SAME TIME, Rice did some things that didn't work out in his favor, such as removing all identifying marks that would have differentiated his Airsoft gun from a real gun. It's not inconsistent to say that both parties did things wrong here, even though one party is much more at fault. I mean, they put those orange tips on toy guns FOR A REASON.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Well, you're not condemning all cops as racist craplords, so therefore you approve of every single cop's actions every single time.

#logic

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Can you read? I condemned the Tamir case. The selective hearing of people who disagree with me is astounding.

And the second example? The one where the guy didn't do anything, was still shot and killed and the police got away with no punishment?

I am reading up on it now. I won't comment without knowledge of the story.

No, we're saying - what we've been saying for weeks now - is that there is a problem and certain people just don't want to see it.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

The Walmart thing...from the article that was linked:

after he failed to respond to calls to drop his weapon

There's your problem. Carrying a gun (toy or not) that looks like a gun, and failing to follow instructions....sorry, buddy.

And all of us are NOT saying 100% of cops are good. They are not. They are human.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

One that the store sold? They didn't give him much time to drop it either, they have it on video and it was very similar to the Cleveland case.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

The shortened version of your post:

Don't commit a crime.

Huh.

Do you disagree with the premise that breaking the law and resisting arrest are surefire ways to increase your risk in life? If I get pulled over for speeding, even for just 1 mph over the limit, and instead of being polite, flip the cop off and floor it, I shouldn't expect there to be a welcoming committee waiting for me when the officers catch up.

Of course I don't disagree with your strawman. You guys keep offering rebuttals to the non-existant argument: "We should all feel super bad for criminals that end up getting wrongfully killed by cops." My interest here is entirely: "Cops should be held accountable when they kill people wrongfully."

Has anyone argued differently? Of course cops should be held responsible if they break the law or act inappropriately.

The StL case: given what we know, the cop acted correctly. He neutralized the threat. A tragedy, no doubt. A life was lost. I believe he acted correctly.
The NY case: given that the ME said the hold (call it a chokehold, call it whatever you want) was NOT the cause of death, then despite what I think of that particular law (the loosie law), the cops acted correctly.
The CLE case: He should be held accountable, as from what we know, he was in the wrong and acted very irresponsibly.

They said it was a combination of the chokehold and kneeling on his chest.

The guy was talking on his cell phone and wasn't even looking at the police when they shot him.

But yeah, every case of police brutality (except one!) is the fault of the dead victim. The police never do anything wrong. The fact that it's a black man who ends up dead is just a coincidence. That a white person can POINT A GUN at police and not suffer any consequences is also a coincidence. Sorry to have troubled you.

Not directly no. But repeating over and over the gem: "don't commit crime" in a thread about police officer accountability ends up coming off strongly like a muddy the waters tactic.

Happy coincidence that they never break the law and always act appropriately whenever a black man ends up dead.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

I think we might have to close this thread. There is no such thing as a bad cop. They are always justified and act according to procedure.

And a man attacked a cop and/or resisted arrest in the StL and NY cases. I don't see color here. Others keep injecting race. How about using (I do apologize for the term) black-and-white details? If the StL/NY cases involved same race cops/criminals....there's no story. Why would that be?

And I've stated that not all cops are good. I've heard stories from my uncle and great-grandfather. And they were embarrassed that those other officers were part of the force, and they did what they could to weed them out.
