B1G Championship in Detroit

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

One thing that seems to go with this discussion is that hockey fans from these schools still see others as their main rivals. I mean MN/NoDak or MI and MSU with the other Michigan schools. And, the assumption that "Big 10 pride" from football and basketball would simply transfer to hockey has turned out so far to be incorrect.

The problem is too many fans like you want microwave entertainment.:D The B1G will take time to develop just like any new business venture. Two seasons is much too short a time frame for your type of evaluation. Give it time.

I think it actually looks pretty decent as open-air. You know, once you clean up the fallen roof and torn up carpet and decade of trash.

The best part of that photo is the History Channel and Mountain Dew billboards that I remember from the late 90s that are STILL THERE.

I would agree with that statement.
Real hockey fans here know that although OSU & Michigan have the big rivalry for football it is not so for hockey. Michigan & MSU are the big rivals.
I find it laughable when the Blue Jackets were formed and all these people immediately became "hockey fans" because we now had a pro team but they were so clueless about things.
They tried SO hard to make the Red Wings their rivals trying to equate it to the OSU-Michigan football rivalry and the Wings and their fans totally ignored the Jackets fans as Columbus meant absolutely nothing to them.

Perhaps, but is there a valid reason they are so clueless about how to run the tournament here and now?
With Fred Pletsch doing on ice coverage for the B1G network is there any reason the B1G people couldn't consult with the former CCHA commissioner on how to put on a good show in D town like the CCHA did?

I don't understand it. There was zero advertising. I don't recall seeing any TV ads, and they only started advertising in-arena during games after the Chicago game, so they gave themselves about a month time to advertise twice a weekend to a very select audience. The Duel in the D had TV spots during games, seemed like it was plastered everywhere on the internet, and they kept offering ticket deals until the day of the game.

The Big Ten did none of that, and the only ticket deals have essentially been unadvertised. The only way to find out about the family pack is to go on Ticketmaster, and the only way to find student and military rates is to read a single article on the Red Wings website.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Looks like some people in the lower bowl got to take their seats.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

You are assuming they care. Stop assuming that and you will understand why we are here...

Honest question...how much do tickets cost? If it is more than $20 you will realize problem #1.

Their main post season venue criteria has been neutral sites for two reasons: 1) NHL size rinks and 2) neutral sites invoke more parity. However, college hockey is a niche sport in which the post season also competes with March Madness as well as other local sports. So the problem is systemic and there's no easy solution. Obviously, the B1G and the NCAA are aware of the issues and I think they're both trying to figure out what the best market strategy is over the next couple years to recalibrate the entire post season tournament process to deal with attendance issues. The regionals have been dealing with this problem annually since regional attendance nosedived in 2007. Article.

A group rate (10 or more) of $19 for the 3 day pass was mentioned on the B1G website. Couldn't buy tickets there, it redirected to ticketbastard or Olympia entertainment. I asked at the Joe box office during the UM vs. MSU game in January and they knew nothing of it. That price couldn't be found on ticketmaster, and a call to them got me nowhere. That price would have been great, and maybe I could get more friends to go. Instead, they try to sell the front 2 rows at something like $200 for 3 days. Not worth it to most fans.

How much are they charging for parking at the JLA ramp?

Too much. It was $15 last night.

I bought the 3 day GA ticket for $45 at the box office yesterday

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Let's play the hypothetical game. What if the B1G did add affiliate members and did have North Dakota and Miami.

Would Sioux fans show up?

We show up in Oxford and Denver in the regular season. You tell me.

Better? Turn on CBSSN in a couple hours.
