Atlantic Hockey Summer News

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

Yes, RIT's two year reclassification was the reason they had to sit one year from AHA postseason play (and the second of the two years took place while they were independent).

The two year NCAA ineligibility was the reason RIT CHOSE to sit out of the AHA tournament in 2007. I'm pretty sure I read in an interview with Coach Wilson that RIT was not ineligible for AHA post-season play, but the conference and RIT came to an agreement that they would not compete in a tournament played for an Auto-bid that RIT was ineligible to use, should they have won.

now that you mention that, i seem to remember hearing it too.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

Doesn't all playoff money go to the conference to be split amongst all of the schools? I thought I had heard that somewhere.

Such an arrangement would not be atypical, so I wouldn't have a hard time believing it's the case.

However, two things are still true:
1) More dates equals more revenue. Even if it is a wholly even split and the home teams see less than they would if it were a game completely controlled by them, it is still more money than if the arena sat idle that weekend, and the teams who don't get home dates, or who have less than profitable home series, still benefit from a larger share of the overall pool. Whether the events themselves are profitable is a different case, but obviously that is going to vary from league to league (and to speak in truth, if two extra home games push a team's profit from the black to the red, it's not really a problem of the playoff system).
2) As far as I know, the teams themselves would still keep the receipts from concession and merchandise sales.

*Shrug. Different path to the same result, really. In fact, it pretty much enhances the secondary point that it'd be a rare league indeed that forced new members out of the league's postseason.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

Does anyone have any factual or annecdotal evidence of alumni financial support levels for hockey at the various AHA institutions? I doubt there is a centralized source disclosing such an amount, but was wondering if anyone had hard numbers.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

Extra home dates, which means extra money for the hosting teams. I know we're not talking about pro-level cash here, but an extra two-three home games for teams every year is much appreciated financially.

historically, I believe, third place games existed to guarantee two games to make the trip worthwhile... at this point I think its more cultural embedding than anything else.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

I'd just like to point out (rant) that it is July 26th and there is still no sign of Niagara and Bobby Mo being members of the AHA on the AHA website.

Welcome to the Mickey Mouse Land that is the AHA! Keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times and enjoy your ride!
:D

But seriously... I'm guessing not too many people are actually working for the conference during the summer. There's probably not much website support over there right about now.
If it makes you feel any better, the AHA teams' banner at the Blue Cross Arena leading up to and during the conference championships did have Niagara and Robert Morris listed on it. Of course, I found that a little odd since to the casual observer, it made it look like they were both already in the conference and failed to make it to the final four.

USCHO still references the CHA under the DI menu.

I trust that everything will be set up closer to the start of the season.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

My guess is that it will be updated around the time the new season gets underway. Over the years, I've noticed a number of schools didn't have their updated rosters up until then either...I haven't checked recently, but I suspect that the league and the schools rely on interns and student labor for lots of this, both of which decline over the summer months.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

Somebody's working on the site as they have some updated news about Jared DeMichiel's signing last week.

I would suspect that this is the person you want to talk to about their AHA website:

Director of Media Relations - David Rourke

Only mention of Robert Morris is that they will be one of the host of the 2013 FF in Pittsburgh.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

The league gets 100 percent of all ticket revenue from all play-in and quarterfinal games. The host schools have to submit all money to the league. For the league's sake, they want Air Force, Army, RIT, now Niagara the host those series. As for semifinals and championships at Blue Cross Arena, the league splits revenue with Blue Cross Arena.

That's a pretty crappy deal. Like hosting playoff games is cheap!

I would guess (or at least hope) that the league takes their money after the host school covers operating costs, or else they cover the costs themselves. I can't imagine leaving the schools a huge bill, then taking all the revenue away.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Summer News

AIC announces graduate assistant coach.

Casey Balog has been named graduate assistant coach for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Balog, who joins the Yellow Jackets' staff after playing collegiately at SUNY Geneseo, will assist in all facets of the program.

Now if Coach Wright can work some magic and get the Swedish under 20 team to come to Springfield, that would be awesome!
