Atlantic Hockey Says No; So Long Chargers?

All three conferences committed sins to lead to this, but not one of them did something that wasn’t in their best interest.

It’s absurd to think that the B1G should not have its own conference when it is CLEARLY and SIGNIFICANTLY more operationally efficient to do so.

I can understand the argument that the NCHC is the least necessary of the three conferences in the choices they made, but it’s a decision that certainly seems 20/20 in hindsight for how well they’ve done since realignment.

And the CCHA… how quickly do we forget how much of a struggle some of these programs were having (up to and including risk of folding) even in the pre-alignment “glory days”… I recall BGSU explicitly, but also am fairly sure that FSU and LSSU weren’t necessarily on the strongest footing.

As much as I hate where this has put UAA, UAF, and UAH, they’re just in a terrible position and it’s not the fault of the other schools that they are so isolated (and in the case of the Alaska schools, screwed over by terrible state government and unsustainable economic conditions).

I’m far more bothered that the western schools at large have not stepped up in terms of offering more/better non-conference arrangements than I am for them aligning themselves the way that they did.

Lake Superior State's hockey program hasn't been in danger of folding, even in the down times. It doesn't have as much money as many of its hockey peers, but it holds its own and would be in no danger of being cut to pursue more funding for other sports. It's the major sport at LSSU, and there'd be no desire to get rid of it.

That's not to ignore that, at times, the university itself has faced some struggles. Ideally, Lake Superior State would be able to increase its enrollment and start offering masters programs again. Lake State hockey is really at a disadvantage with graduate transfers, and that could impact hockey very negatively in this era.

lace west could go back to alaska if he wanted. ...anchorage is warmer than fairbanks. ;)

"This position is a full-time, exempt, Grade 81, minimum $64,210 yearly, DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package."

$64.21k? i hope whoever takes this position knows how much peanut butter, and really most-all other things, cost in AK...

with that being said MNSU is looking for a [assistant] coach as well;

United Express (Sky West) still flies into CMX (Hancock, MI) but they are a regional jet service and can't handle a hockey team and all their gear on a single flight. Even for teams that "fly in" to MTU the final leg of the trip is going to be by bus from a bigger airport unless they charter a larger jet into CMX like the NCAA does for the tourney teams.

That's not necessarily true. At least one B1G school flies all their players and staff while sending the equipment on a separate truck to distant road games. Nothing says the gear has to travel with you if the distance is still driveable within reason.

Are you seriously comparing a B1G hockey budget to an AHA one? Bwhahaha!

At least one CCHA team has done similar in the past.
