ASU Hockey

Re: ASU Hockey

Temp tomorrow in Phoenix is forecast to be 122. last week it was 117. But it's a dry heat.

Arizona in summer: you walk outside and don't realize that you're having heat stroke until you're on the ground.

Alabama in summer: you walk outside at 0500 and want to die already.

Re: ASU Hockey

nice schedule. and who said ASU couldn't make the leap into NCAA DI??

its not a dry heat. its a pizza oven heat.

Re: ASU Hockey

The part about the reports of membership changes being inaccurate seems pretty unequivocal. So does that mean the WCHA is it? With the WCHA's financial/travel concerns, which seems to have been the main holdup for the B1G, and is likely the main issue for the NCHC as well, has anyone considered that no one will want them? If ASU gets left out in the cold, does their program have a chance of surviving? If ASU doesn't get a conference deal worked out this year, I'd be surprised if anybody down there would want to commit to the expense of a new arena with the team's future being so uncertain.

no they won't get left out in the cold. there is a lot of support for college sports in Arizona and for hockey. I know its hard for New Englanders and Midwesterns to wrap their heads around that, but its true. I would not have believed it had I not started living down here for part of the year.

Re: ASU Hockey

ASU says they will be playing in a new arena in 2018. that's two years from next week. Might be a bit difficult to get done.
and they are hoping to protect the 32 million dollar donation via an endowment. again, questionable they can achieve that unless last year was free, which I doubt.
Great advertising to the recruits though. No need to tell the truth anyway. Here's my first question: are they going to subsidize travel?

Re: ASU Hockey

I see that your boys are coming to Jamestown to play the University of Jamestown in January. This is UJ first year in hockey. It will be a blood bath but will be cool to see a D1 team invade our arena.

This is not the D-I team. It would most likely be one of the two club teams we have. The D-I squad is in Hamden, CT to play Quinnipiac on Jan. 27 and 28.

Re: ASU Hockey

There are no plans for an arena, as of today. Hockey isn't even a pimple on the athletic department radar. Powers is a huge poser that completely lost control of his "club team" last year and that cash infusion will be gone in a flash. Also, don't fool yourself, leagues want no part of an upstart program that is less stable than athletics in Alaska.

I guess time will tell on your opinion. I feel confident in what I'm hearing.
