Arizona State Moving To D1

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

I'd love to see where those 9 wins are coming from because I don't see it. You might get one from Lake State. But honestly, I have you with 3 wins the rest of the way. The team is a lot better than I thought, but no one is going to be caught off guard any longer. The trip out east is tough, especially right after Alaska, and your systems are not designed to score very many goals.
And also, where are you putting all these recruits, pretty soon they will be sharing lockers.

I meant 9 wins where I wouldn't be extremely shocked to win, as in the games against unranked teams. I highly doubt we would actually get 9 more D1 wins. At the moment there's 5 recruits joining in 2016, 3 joining in 2017, and 1 in 2018.

Not happening tonight. Down 3-0 after two to Quinnipiac.

It's possible, but I think NCHC is the more likely option.

I heard NCHC was the goal. This is from a well informed booster
Since they are taking out the golf course and putting a business district were all the proceeds from rent will go to the athletic department, it looks like they could possibly do anyone of the changes mentioned. I am trying to remember just how much work would have to be done to Wells Fargo so the hockey could play there. Without The removable bleachers everyone will be above the ice with the poor view of what's happening at the boards on your side. Oceanside is a nice little barn they have made many changes and upgrades I think it will be a good place for the Sun Devils to play until they get better established.

With no disrespect intended for UAA and Alaska, I predict that Arizona will surpass them both within a few short years, maybe next year. Yea, I know they already beat Alaska and could very well have beaten UAA, but I really don't think they are better than either team right now. But obviously very close (if not better) right from the git-go. That to me is impressive.

If they can get a conference, I believe they'll be an easier recruit than either Alaska team and probably many of the more remote-ish WCHA teams (looking at you Bemidji, MTU, NMU, and Lake State. (just to show I'm not biased, I actually have a strong fan bias toward Alaska and the other teams mentioned .... I just love the teams from smallish, out of the way places). Even without a conference or any D1 history, it's clear they've already recruited and developed almost as well as those well-established teams.

Good luck Sun Devils.

I agree that Arizona will definitely have a recruiting advantage. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend the winters in Arizona? Look at their roster, it is already proving to be the case, with transfers from some very good (established) schools. The guys looked terrible in the first period against both Alaska schools, but then they woke up and played much better. The style is a bit boring to me, very defensive minded, but that will change I'm sure. The defensive game they play is very sound, they really clogged up the middle, kept UA_ (more so than UAA) to the outside, and got their sticks on pucks to clear them away from their goalie. Both goalies played excellent games as well. Good luck in the future!

Not sure how much it will ever change. Coach Powers was a goalie after all, which really shows in Levin and Pashovitz so far. But it will obviously be somewhat less conservative when we have more talent at least.

But if their warm weather was such a recruiting advantage they would dominate in all sports or at least the major ones but..........

In all sports save hockey they compete with many other warm weather location schools.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

One big reason that I expect has kids coming to the East Valley is that 1) the new car smell 2) the chance to play right away 3) the women/weather, distantly. I graduated from and support (heh) UAH, and I can tell you that it's far more about the name and the chance to play. The cookies and tee times are a side benefit.

The Sun Devils will not have it easy. Whoever said anything about making any post season play was speaking wishful thinking. When talking to Sun Devil fans I would bite my tongue so I wouldn't be a negative Nancy but I knew this would happen. Not Many schools are able to make the jump to D1 hockey And have a immediate good showing.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

So, where has all the pent up fervor for hockey in the desert gone?

No season thread, even?

FYI, I just tried to place a hypothetical order for 60 tickets to this Friday night's game at Oceanside Arena. Sixty! No problem. They added that many tickets right into my cart (60 seats at 20 bucks a pop) for a total of $1284.00 with fees.

Oceanside seats 747 for hockey, now. If you can't sell out an arena this small in your first year of D-1, in your very first home game in your own barn at that level, at a school this size, 3 days before the game, I don't care who the opponent is........................?

I can't believe you could even get near the place at this point.

As an aside, at the UNO luncheon at the Omaha Press Club today Mike Kemp, UNO's Associate Athletic Director, said that UNO will be playing at ASU "around Thanksgiving in 2019".

I, for one, will be surprised if these games actually take place in an arena that was built specifically for ASU Hockey or one with ASU Hockey in mind.

I think they are playing an internet school :)

Big two-game set coming up vs. Southern New Hampshire.

I'm hoping that USCHO is wrong in failing to list these as exhibitions (also the Wisconsin-Eau Claire series is listed as NC and not EX). These can't possibly count as regular season games for RPI and PWR purposes can they?
