Any BOLD Predictions to make? Get em on record here.

Re: Any BOLD Predictions to make? Get em on record here.

Ok, this might be a little late to start this thread, and I'm not sure if there is another thread like this. But my idea is a thread where no arguing or discussing is involved, no smart alec remarks, just any BOLD predictions you got to make from now until the Champ is Crowned.

I'm picking a ff of Overrated and a ff of Underrated teams for the tourney.

Overrated teams - Miami, Union, Boston College & Dartmouth.

I've already gone on record saying I think MSU will take at least a game from Miami, but I think the CCHA is so weak, MU might still win their conf tourney. Where they will really be exposed is in the NCAA tourney.

BC might stumble before the tourney and drop in the PWR, but if they don't, they won't live up to their rating in the Dance.

Union's on the bubble, and I'm not sure they're going to get in, but if they do, they won't go far, one and done for sure.

Dartmouth looks to be just outside the bubble with a shot at getting in. I don't think its going to happen. I don't think they'll get close.

Underrated teams - Mn St-Mankato, Wisconsin, CC and well, I can't hardly go with all WCHA teams, though I think it would be warranted, but I'll go with Providence.

All 3 of my WCHA teams being in the same conf is going to make it hard for all of them to move up from where they are before the NCAA tourney, so I guess all I can do is say that

CC will be a surprise in the WCHA conf tourney, but probably will still come up short of getting into the tourney.

Wisconsin should make a good run at moving up into the Tourney field of 16 and if they make it, they won't be an easy out.

Mn St-Mankato could win the WCHA Conf Tourney, but if they don't, watch for them as a contender to be making the FF.

Providence is a long shot to get into the Dance, but I think they'll surprise in the Conf tourney and make a run at it. If they do make it, well, it was a stretch calling them an overrated team, so I am not saying they'll do much once getting in, though.

Conf predictions - CCHA will disappoint and WCHA will dominate. Simple as that.

I'll admit these are not very precise predictions, but they're on record now.
I'll make some more precise predictions as well at a later date.

Provincialism rears its ugly head once more. Three of four overrated teams teams are from the east, but all three underrated teams are from the west. The ratings are clearly prejudiced in favor of the the east and against the west. Frisbee, anyone?

Re: Any BOLD Predictions to make? Get em on record here.

The WCHA will only have 1 team in the Frozen Four

Miami will lose to a Hockey East team

NCAA will put the regionals in all big cities that arent in the middle of nowhere next year

Call it Provincialism if you want, but its not.

I simply let the evidence speak for itself.

Last time I spent any significant amount of time in this forum, was the 2004-05 season. I predicted that 4 WCHA teams would make the Frozen Four and that the CCHA would only win 1 game in the whole tournament. And guess what happened?!

I was accused of being an idiot and a moron, AND also of being provincial as well. But is it being provincial simply to recognize that one region or one conf or one division is simply stronger???

No, of course not, you are just being ridiculous.

And btw, you did notice that Miami lost and Providence won. Right?! Both were considered upsets.

How is a PC win an upset? They are hosting UNH who placed 7th in HE.

Michigan runs the table in the CCHA playoffs. The AHA autobid is seeded 16th and Michigan is assigned to Grand Rapids as the 15th seed. They beat MN 5-2.

You had me until that last part. This thread is about bold statements, not miracle wishes.

Shall we revisit these predictions of mine?!

I said Wisconsin and Colorado College were UNDERrated. And where are those two teams right now?! Getting ready to play for the WCHA Conf Tourney Championship. Thank you. Whoever wins is in, if Wisconsin loses they might still get in, but I doubt it. But I feel bad for Quinipiac if CC wins. Not sure where Wisco would finish, but I think I wouldn't want to be the team that sees them in the 1st round either.

I said Providence was UNDERrated. And I said in my original post that I only listed them because I felt I needed at least once non-WCHA team. But they beat a highly rated UNH team in a best 2 games of 3 series and only lost to Reg Season Conf Champs Mass-Lowell by 1 point in the next round. I'd say it would be hard to argue I was wrong about them.

Then Mn St? Well, they got beat by one of the other teams I said was UNDERrated, so it means nothing so far. We'll see how they do in the NCAA tourney. I predict that they'll make a strong run at the FF and if they get beat, without seeing what the matchups will be, I'd guess it would be by another WCHA team.

Then, on the otherside of the coin.

I said Miami was overrated, and since then, they needed 3 games to get by a lowly MSU squad and got pummeled today by a lowly Michigan squad 6-2. Now they'll lose early in the NCAA Tourney, probably 1st round, but if not, for sure by the 2nd round. Then there will be no denying.

Said Dartmouth was overrated, and they got beat in a best 2 out of 3 series vs Union of all teams.

Said Union was overrated, but they played one of my other overrated teams, so someone had to win, and they did. So this is still a toss up for now.

Said BC was overrated, and they since lost to BU. Don't see them going as far in the NCAA tourney this season as their ranking would suggest(they are ranked #4 in the USCHO.com poll & are #4 in the PWR). So that's saying I don't see them in the FF and they may struggle to get to the 2nd round? But its BC, anyone would be a fool to underestimate them.

Here's the boldest prediction of them all... UNH will not be raising a national championship banner...

Re: Any BOLD Predictions to make? Get em on record here.

Here are my picks:

Frozen Four Qualifiers:
Boston College beating Quinnipiac
Miami beating Notre Dame
UMass Lowell besting New Hampshire
Minnesota beating up on THE SIOUX DAMMIT

For the National Championship:
Miami pulls off the upset and beats Minnesota in overtime for their first national championship ever.

In order to do this, Miami would have to beat a Hockey East team... you really are going bold.

Re: Any BOLD Predictions to make? Get em on record here.

Miami is about to beat MN for the title, and a father says to his son, with little time remaining, "Son, you're about to witness history" and Miami loses.

Based on a true story. Not. Kidding.
