Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

Wow, how did the cowboys do so good. This episode is a clear example of how getting a crappy cab driver can kill you as it looks like either Steve and Allie or the brothers are going home.

Cowboys have solidified my vote for awesome.

I hope the models are done.

Lesbians took the U-Turn and in their comments showed why it happened to them. Running a smart race the Cops should have been U-turned but unfortunately when a team has the choice between a strong team they like and a somewhat strong team they dislike the disliked team gets the shaft. Once again not that good of a leg, really surprised more teams did not pick the ice cream challenge. I am also taking a stab this is a non elimination due to the U-Turn.

Having a non-elimination in a U-turn leg is just wrong. Glad you were, too! Not nice to say, but I really disliked the lesbian team. Is it just my imagination, or has every gay and lesbian team been mean, catty, unfriendly, and unlikeable? Their saying that U-turning them was ignorant is not bright - u-turning a team you deem to be a threat is a good move.

Danny and Oswald are amongst my favorite teams of all time on the race and the only other really mean unlikeable team that springs to my mind is Team Guido.

It's just your imagination.

Half of this lesbian team, however, was very annoying, and I'm glad to see her gone. Regardless, it was a typically stupid move by the airheads -- they U-Turned them not because they thought they were a threat (they never won a single leg) but because Carrie Prejean's feelings were hurt. The smart move would have been U-Turning the cowboys or the detectives, each of which is a far stronger team.

The Cowboys crack me up "Who knows you could have a career in fashion design" "I could be a natural."

I thought their best line was "Don't let the clothes fool ya, we are into the fashion scene."

:D

"Can we have a shooting challenge, kick a door in, chase a crackhead" For all their complaints everybody seemed to do the fashion challenge pretty quick

Hard leg today last roadblocks seemed pretty tough. Glad to not see Mike and Louie get eliminated hopefully the models won't make the final three.

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

What I find interesting about this season is that the teams that have behaved badly - the cops - I don't see as villains. Jet & Cord are awesome, they are my favorite team in a while.

Model girl had a great bonehead comment in the 1st portion of the ep tonight.

Shanghai should prove a great backdrop. Getting around there can be tough if you don't speak Chinese.

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

I don't really see the cops as villians, but I wouldn't have minded if they had gotten the boot last night.

As much as I don't want the models to win, I enjoy that they are still around for me to laugh at.

The cowboys look to be having fun and I enjoy their humor on the race. I think my favorite teams are always the ones having fun (such as the hippies from whatever season).

Interesting having 2 road blocks and each person having to do one of them.

Anything that makes it less likely they'll reproduce is good. If those morons get their hands on a million dollars, they will likely not survive the summer.

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

Seems like most of the teams had a hard time in Shanghai. Would have liked to see how teams would have done the dumpling challenge which didn't seem that hard. I am guessing because the teams had realized the shortage of English speaking people in Shanghai it may have been tough to find the place they were going. I can't believe the brothers wandered around for 2 hours after getting the clue without asking a hotel taxi etc for directions to the garden bridge. Disappointing that Mike and Louie were eliminated rather than the models. Although now I know who to root for in the finals. Go Cowboys.

I really liked that episode because I've been to Shanghai and the Yu Yuan Gardens. That's the first time they've gone somewhere outside the US that I've been. (I'm not much of a world traveler).

The dumpling challenge would have been interesting, that marketplace is a maze. Even with the Chinese speaking person I was with, I was the one that found the way out and back to the car.

I wasn't a big fan of the detectives. I really hope the models don't win. I'm guessing nearly everyone is cheering for the cowboys at this point.

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

Anyone who has been to China has been through the horror of trying to get around there. It's an ideal setting for the Race, IMHO. It's chaotic, there's a language barrier, yet there is enough infrastructure to be navigable.

I thought this was a very good episode. It had it all - I loved how the brothers gave up trying to find the bridge, waited for the cops, and figured they'd pull ahead due to the speed bump. I loved how the cowboys slipped their soapstone in their pocket to play mindgames with the models. I thought it was ingenious that the cops called the translation service for the taxis (they must have made a note of it while in a cab previously). And I was very impressed at the models' ability to make their way across town on the subway.

Jet and Cord are the team to beat, and I think there is a sizeable time gap between the brothers and the other two teams. But I am expecting everyone to be on the same flight to San Francisco, so it's anyone's game.

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

If the cops had only told the brothers to take a hike.... Two hours and they were still sitting on the starting line. That said, how sad are the cabbies that they don't take it upon themselves to call the translation service to get a fare. Are Westerners poor tippers? It was a strategy by the brothers that worked for them, but it sure didn't sit right with me. The models impressed me at the beginning by getting out and asking people, seeking out English-speakers instead of just asking cabbies. The girl they ended up finding was just pure gold.

To me, the cowboys showed last week why they are so good: when the wind picked up in the stadium and started blowing the puzzle pieces all over the stadium, Brent threw a fit - like I would have - but Cord just buckled down and got it done. They made some comment about that that I don't remember.

I may not be able to watch the finale next week and I'm not all that broke up about it. I haven't liked the finales of the past several seasons since they have been a crapshoot and success has been dependent upon a different skill set than what has brought the teams to this point. So while I believe that, based upon the past legs, the cowboys should be the hands-on favorites to win this season, this will prove to be anybody's Race.

In my experience (total two months in China, both on business and as a tourist), Chinese people are impatient and intolerant, particularly for people who don't speak their language. On top of that, culturally, Chinese people tend not to consider the repercussions of their actions on others. For example, it's not uncommon on the streets to step in excrement from human babies - a Chinese diaper is a slit in the rear of their pants. Get on the train, and people are spitting everywhere. Get in a cab and the driver willfully places thousands of people's lives at risk. And ahead of the Beijing Olympics, there was a campaign to get people to conduct themselves with basic courtesy such as not cutting lines. Basically, I am not all that surprised no one takes the time to go the extra mile in the name of customer service.

I don't pretend to be an expert on China or its culture, just my observations from my time there.

Re: Amazing Race 16 - Villains, Barbie Dolls, and Wierdoes In Exotic Locales, Oh my!

Zudnic, that's sad. But my surprise is at their not considering the repercussions of their actions on their own wallet.
