Same performance against Espana today. While the lower groups aren't nearly as good as a US College team, hopefully his 30 goals in 8 games is a sign of good things!

DU recruits:
Sean Mostrom is on the protected list for the Fargo Force-USHL. Same for Blake Hllman and Dylan Gambrell for Dubuque

USHL News
Alex Carle still in Youngstown--due to injury he played in only 6 games last season

Affiliates:
Pio recruit Troy Terry Lincoln
Jack Doremus Chicago
Brian Hawkinson TriCity
Many Colorado Thunderbirds on the lists. Rampage and RoughRiders too.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Heard from a pretty good source that Mostrom was deferred to 2015.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

It's lacrosse time--first 3 names I heard were Berg, Flint, and Noble followed shortly by Matthews. Sounds like DU vs USA;):D
Tierney to be on the air in the 4th quarter.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

DU past, present and future in the Lacrosse World Championship

6 gold medals-Canada
2 bronze medals-Iroquois (Zach Miller had 2 goals in the medal winning game,)
1 other top 10 finish-Japan
1 Nation's Championship Debut-Thailand

BTW Colton McCaffrey's 30 goals in 8 games was 2nd in the tournament both in number and average per game.

MaCaffrey must be pretty good to put up those numbers. Still, I have not read that he is a high profile recruit, at least as compared to Reid and Bomberry. So many star players on attack and at middie. Players will have to sacrifice individual stats for team wins. We can put out 7-9 players who can score 30-40 goals. Some kids will leave the program due to lack of playing time. Quint's last words to Tierney as he left the broadcast booth Saturday night: Coach, good chance you will be my pre-season #1.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

I'm sure you guys read that former Pio ladies golf coach Sammie Chergo accepted the head ladies job at Oregon State. Great hire for OSU, for she is big time. When she left DU, we lost one of the program's great coaches. She loved being around Gwoz and Tierney.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Colborne just signed a 2 yr 2.55 million contract with Calgary.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Please indulge an old man's pride: My great nephew has just accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy. This all came about very suddenly. He took an official recruiting visit to the Springs this past weekend. Their offensive coordinator spent an hour on the phone with his mom Saturday morning. He's a high character kid with a 3.9 gpa. He's also 6'4" 285. A two time all stater in AZ with his senior year to go, and can bench 365. Stanford had been his number one choice. But the AFA guys must have really sold him. He looked up what a newly commissioned Second Lieutenant makes and concluded it's a pretty good entry level salary and benefits package, combined with a guaranteed job.

I just wish he could skate. I've fantasized about him delivering life altering checks in the slot. "Ladies and gentlemen, there will be this brief time out while the medical examiner collects the remains." I'll tell him about Frank, of course, but he's never been on skates in his life.

Anyway, back to the relevant stuff.

Congrats!!!! Break out the Crown Royal!!!!

Congrats!!!! Break out the Crown Royal!!!!

An interesting factor in his decision: he is only 2 credits shy of graduation and had planned to spend his senior year taking two classes, working his job and playing football. But the Stanford position coach made a big deal about how he should take AP courses (probably a help to them in working out a player's class schedule). But this is what the kid wanted to do. Had planned on doing. And to some extent, it soured him on Stanford. Now Stanford is a wonderful school. But the AFA ain't exactly chopped liver. Plus, there's all that extra stuff you have to go through at an academy. He's a winner. And takes after his great uncle in no way at all.

Congrats to the young man. You have to be far more than a premier athlete to get in to the Academy. Having Stanford as your "safety" school, not bad at all. ;)

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Larkin Jacobson and Greg Ogard recognized as Hornbeck Scholars/Dean's List for perfect 4.0 spring quarter. Gabe Levin with GPA of 3.75 or better but not 4.0 had to settle for the Dean's List, poor baby.

I hadn't thought of it that way. It seems like maybe Stanford sh*t in their own chili with this young man. Although what drives a kid to a service academy may not always be visible. May not even be something he's aware of. The folks at the Academy obviously found it last week.
