Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Owens didn't go to the player's banquet, sounds like a force out.
But it is being handled more diplomatically than Peg did with Gwoz.

At the very least everyone's been done the favor of it not happening on April Fool's Day.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

First, the DUI
1. The incident occurred 7 years before the Denver and Maine jobs were available.
2. He faced the issue publicly and admitted his mistake.
3. There has been no repeat occurrence
4. Why not accept the fact that he learned his lesson?

Next, DU hired Monty before Maine had even started their search.

( I dare say many, if not most, of us have gotten behind the wheel "legally intoxicated" at sometime during our lives. If fortunate we didn't get arrested, cause an accident, and injure or kill someone. And we don't do it anymore.)

Quality post.

Pretty sure that Maine had started its search long before that search was officially announced, however, and that Monty wasn't on the radar at any point, for some reason. ( It was interesting to read Abbott cite input from "several people, including alums ".)

Old Pio won't buy this, but I didn't come here to instigate; I just was curious as to how DU fans rated the hire and the season.

Monty has certainly shown that he has an eye for talent. I'm sure that he'll do a good job for DU. If his language was a bit profane during the BC game, well that's not unheard-of.... I met a HEA coach's wife in a hotel lounge years ago, and my ears are still bleeding.

Scott Mayfield paired with Matt Donovan in his NHL debut.

From NHL.com
Mayfield, a second-round pick (No. 34) in 2011, made his NHL debut. He had two shots on goal, four hits and was a minus-1 in 17:04 of ice time.
"It was nice to get the experience and see what it's like and get that on out of the way," Mayfield said.

Many kind words from players and coach in this Isles interview: http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=713175

MT @scottmayfield2: Not the outcome we wanted but my NHL debut was an experience I’ll never forget. Huge thanks for the kind words & support

In 69 games in Bridgeport Scott's stats:
3-14-17 -2 and 125 Penalty minutes

Interesting quote from Viva Larraza.

"This is the biggest base of a group of guys since I've been here. The last two years, we've lost quite a few guys, but this year it looks like almost everybody will be staying," Larraza said. "It hurts (to bow out) right now, but we have a good foundation to build on for next year." w

There's been a lot of people moving going on.

Hello, Belleview? Um, yeah. Please page Dr. Battson DeBelfry and tell him one of his patients has gotten loose again.

This is a classic early Mad Magazine quote. Frequently inserted in situations to make them appear even more nonsensical. Translation from Australian criminal argot: "It's crazy to try bribing a cop with counterfeit money."

You aren't counting the just-turned-14-year old from Norway that Heisenberg listed today. :) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=274219

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

DU announced it in a press release. Sounds like he is returning to New England.

http://www.denverpioneers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18600&ATCLID=209458009

Fair warning, Old Pio- rumors and speculation (though not necessarily acceptance or endorsement) ahead:

When he first came out to DU, I remember hearing that he was looking to add some credentials to his resume while he waited for Umile to retire, the UNH job is what he ultimately wants. Perhaps it was only a matter of time before he headed back east.

We've been looking for a skater who can score goals. But doubt if we planned on waiting until the 2018-19 season

Matthias Emilio Pettersen (Dad, Flemming, played in the WJC in '93-94)
GP 13 22-22-44 3.38Pts per game
Maybe we could sneak him in for 2017-18 :D

Ok, Baker Shore, here's your first teammate.

Nevermind

Thanks for the news Ralph.
