Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

So...here are the four options.

1) Neb-O in two games.
2) Neb-O in three games
3) Denver in two games
4) Denver in three games

Thoughts, predictions?

Haiku plagiarized from Mavpuck:

"Pios back to our barn
Archie says who's your daddy
Mavs head to semis"

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

Great movie and great line from it as well.

I'm old enough to have seen Tora!, Tora!, Tora! at the theater!

Have it on laserdisc, even, still.

Since I asked the question, and since some respondents seem to be waxing poetic...

Allow me to quote Thomas Stearns Eliot.

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang, but a whimper.

Nebraska-Omaha in two.

I saw it the first time in Tokyo. An "international" version with sub titles for both the English and Japanese segments.

That's the version I have on laserdisc. It has Japanese subtitles.

{Sigh} Special teams failed DU last night.

Tonight is DU's last chance to continue the season. It is officially one and done time.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Plan A: Score three goals and hope Sam Brittain can hold them to two.

Plan B: Stink the place up on special teams by allowing three power play goals while failing to score on a four and a half minute power play of our own.

Plan C: Anybody? Anyone? Suggestions?

Neb-O scored four goals, three of them on the power play and Josh Archibald didn't have a single point in the game. Uh-oh.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

The current NHL CBA is the prime reason why more and more players are leaving early. Without going into lots of detail it is to the benefit for NHL teams to get players as soon as possible due to 1) the cap on entry level contracts. No drafted or free agent college player gets large contracts like in the previous CBA. 2) drafted college players can become free agents after their 4th year of being drafted if not signed by their team. For some players this after their junior year with most being after their senior year. Teams don't like wasting picks so they try to sign a kid a year before. 3) Once a pro the time to free agency and the big payday is shorter than in the previous CBA. Players want to get the clock started on their contracts to get to FA. NHL teams are no longer letting kids season in college for 4 years as they risk not being able to sign them. On the other hand you aren't going to win the NCAA title without having high end talent. These days high end players are going to stay 1 to 3 years. It is very rare for one of those players to stay all 4 years. You need a balance of high end talent and 4 year players. This year DU lacked enough high end talent at forward.

Terrific explanation!!

I'm reminded of the moron who keeps hitting his head on the wall. When asked why, he replied "because it feels so good when I stop." I'll keep hitting my head against the wall 'till I'm forced to stop.

Looks like the soonest I'll be able to stop is tomorrow. DU pulls out an impressive 5-1 win, when it would have been easier to just 'phone it in and head for home. Way to go, Pioneers!
