Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

As an Islander fan, I thought Matt and Brock had very good games last night. Brock has been very versatile playing on all 4 lines. Matt went down to the minors and regained his game after a hot start and then cooling off. Both have had their rookie struggles but have improved their play as of late. I think with both of them it is mostly getting more comfortable and playing with confidence. They are starting to use their talent and letting the play come to them rather than worrying about making a mistake. There are spots on this team that they can claim.

I have uploaded my Saturday night pictures from the UND vs. DU series. Believe me, it was more fun to retouch this batch than the Friday ones. You can view said shots by CLICKING HERE!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Why are we so far down the list on the PWR rankings? I feel like the only way to get to the tournament is to win the division. It does look like we will get 20 wins though, not bad for the first season under Monty!!

Winning the NCHC regular season title doesn't automatically get you a bid. If DU was to win the NCHC title they would probably have a PWR that would get them in but there are no guarantees. You have to win the NCHC playoffs to get the autobid.

Going back to the OT losses and sweep in Alaska partly answers your question. A lackluster schedule doesn't help. With road wins counting more heavily though, there is opportunity in the last bit of the season to pick up some ground. Need some sweeps in there, though.

Given the personnel and timelines, not a bad season at all. Still, playoffs would be very nice...

I know this is the case, but isn't the autobid at the discretion of the conference? i.e. they could give it to the regular season winner if they wanted to- but conferences would rather have good action and meaningful games in the tournaments.

Nope, autobid goes to the playoff winner only. They did give them the discretion back in 2000-01 and all 6 conferences elected to give it to the tourney winner including the newly formed NCHC. They can't say one year it will be the conference winner and another year the playoff winner. In the case of the power conferences it is extremely rare that the conference winner doesn't make the NCAA tourney.

So then, another random question- has anybody yet exercised the option to do 4 on 4 overtime? That was one of the rule changes implemented last year for the 2012-2014 seasons.

Don't think it would be in the best interest of this year's team, but could have seen it being exciting for some teams of the recent past.

For a few seasons, in the late '90s, the regular season champ and the playoff champ both got auto bids. The "cc rule", as it was called...

Drew Shore back to SanAntonio announced 1/31/14.

And as for Sunday's activity, the first 11 seconds weren't too bad.:o

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

The Search Committee that will conduct the search for a successor to Bob Coombe as Chancellor of the University of Denver is as follows:

Doug Scrivner, Chair-Elect Board of Trustees
Cappy Shopneck, Trustee and Alumna, who will be Vice Chair
Joy Burns, Trustee
Navin Dimond, Trustee and Alumnus
Pat Livingston, Trustee
John Miller, Trustee and Alumnus
Denise O’Leary, Trustee
Joe Angleson, Faculty (Biology)
Erica Chenoweth, Faculty (Korbel)
Art Jones, Faculty (CWC)
Scott Leutenegger, Faculty (SECS)
Peg Bradley-Doppes, Vice Chancellor
Tom Willoughby, Vice Chancellor

With Peg on the Committee, it’s doubtful that candidates for the Chancellor position will discuss her termination during the interview process. Another great move by Peg to keep athletics at the forefront of these discussions and for her to hold onto her job a bit longer.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Now that the team enters that portion of the regular season schedule during which it plays seven of eight games on the road, it has the chance to show if it is a group of Road Warriors or tire-treaded roadkill.
