All Things Denver XXXVI

I really hope Ray Pigozzi still pans out and he makes the roster, frankly because I've had his nickname pegged since the first time I heard about him. How fun would it be to have "The Pig" on the team !!!??? Could be a real sleeper player too; maybe get in a couple games and be an unsung hero. What a story line

He's not from Alton, Il. right?

Matt Glasser signed with Denver Cutthroats after playing in China last season.

Matt played for Galeen 2011-12. China last year as you said

Been thinking about Patrick Wiercioch being a RFA. Jared Cowen, D 1st round choice, is also a RFA. He was injured for most of last year--one of the reasons Patrick got 42 of 48 games in the NHLCowen is 6'5" and 235 lbs. Guessing they will want to sign him before Patrick.

Ottawa has lots of young D on their NHL and AHL rosters and have been drafting them like crazy. They also just signed veteran Joe Corvo. Patty is listed as one of the 7 d-men on their NHL roster. When Karlsson and Cowen came back from injury, Patty's ice time was cut back or he sat in the press box. Only got to dress and play in one playoff game at the end of last season. He played well with 19 points in 42 regular season games and was +9. Karlsson is a 1st round pick who has already won the Norris Trophy and Patty certainly isn't taking his spot. Cowen is also a 1st round pick and, I assume if Ottawa re-signs Patty, they will battle it out for a regular d-man spot. They are the 2 youngest d-men on the roster. Patty does not deserve to go back to the AHL so this coming season is going to be interesting for him. Maybe a change of scenery would get him more playing time if he can't crack the top 6 in Ottawa. Note: Sergei Gonchar is gone and Eric Gryba struggled somewhat last year so Patty may be ahead of him on the depth chart.

This article indicates that Ottawa views Patty as one of their top 6 d-men. Ottawa is now negotiating with Cowen and Patrick.

As far as I know he is going to NU. They won't let him out of his LOI.

FWIW, he removed "Commited to play at Northeastern" from his twitter bio. Haven't heard anything more specific, but he was recently listed on an NU press release listing incoming recruits.

Northeastern posters are assuming he is not coming there. Earlier NU thread indicated he could file an appeal with the NCAA.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Knowing nothing about his skills on the ice, my preference would be that he NOT play for DU.

According to my sources. the appeal was denied. It would appear that he now has three hockey-related options: 1) Honor his NLOI; 2) Play at Denver (or elsewhere) after sitting out a year; 3) Turn pro

You're sources are right. His appeal within the Northeastern admin was denied. His next option is appealing through the NCAA which will take a while. He will NOT honor his NLOI. He will go to Denver or WMU to play and will have to sit out this season unless he wis his appeal with NCAA.
