Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

For the diehards I recommend a couple of videos I have. They are videos of a behind the scenes look at Maine hockey back in 93. I would be willing to put my videos on loan if people wanted to copy them. But basically I will send them to one loyal fan and he can distribute. But, it gives you a very in depth look at how Jimmy captained that team(they went 42-1-2 and Walsh credits him with being another assistant but on the ice). In addition, I have a video of the 93 championship where Jimmy scores a natural hat-rick to come from behind in the third and beat out Lake State(at the time was a power house). Very good material if you want to understand more about Jimmy's college playing career. Jimmy says at one point "my will to compete is so strong, too strong". Something to that affect. Sad day when he didn't get the Maine job - in my eyes anyway. But, never the less, he will succeed and he will be good I am sure. If not, maybe it means an opportunity to come back to Maine where he belongs. :) Just kidding - only wishful thinking. :)

Stumbled across the fact that Dustin Jackson is an intern with the Chicago Blackhawks for Marketing and Youth Hockey.

Ok BlackI, @DUCoachMonty seems to like his new office in Denver. And until he wins a couple of Championships at DU, just covet from afar.

Interesting, because current Blackhawk's star Brent Seabrook's brother played for DU..... and he also wore number 8

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

This will be a long summer--Day 1 without LetsGoDU.:(

Alumni News:
Matt Glasser and Kyle Ostrow are instructors at the Youth Hockey Camp in Littleton this summer. You may recall Matt played in Shanghai this year. But did you know he was one of 3 Canadian imports recruited to coach and play alongside the Chinese National Team? Kyle played for the ECHL Colorado Eagles.

Växjö Lakers, Swedish Elitserien League, confirmed Rhett Rakhshani has signed a two year contract beginning 2013-14

Google translation:
"One of the most important pieces is that he is not a mercenary warrior who is happy with his contract, but he makes no secret of his wish to return to the NHL.
"
"We have followed Rhett in HV71 (14-25-39 2nd in points)and he has done well. It is a player that decides games. He has a good shot and can fit both forward and score goals. And it's not a player who only produce when the games have been decided, but he steps up mainly when it should be determined. He is young, ambitious and want to progress," says Evertsson at Växjö Lakers Website. dated 4/5/13

Did anyone else catch the Monty Teleconference, hosted by Mitch Hyder last night? Aparently there's a replay of it available on the website, but I haven't looked for it. Not too much we didn't already know I guess. They are definately working on atleast 2 more goalies; but of course cannot throw names out per NCAA rules, until they're confirmed. Sounds like it will be a fairly different style of play than we're used to. Jim's a smart guy; I have complete confidence in him more and more. He has lots of NHL ties. Plans to hold a youth skills camp here next summer; but didn't get here in time to make it happen this summer, given his long run with Dubuque. Sounds as though he's more or less just getting familiar, learning names and settling in for a long summer of work, to build up the roster. As one would expect, he said he has complete respect for his assistants here. During the hour long call, Mitch polled the listeners on a few questions. Interesting to note that he asked "which NCHC team do you think will take the first league championship - DU, CC, North Dakota, MOH or SCSU". It was pretty much a slam dunk for North Dakota..... and these were Denver season ticket holders on the conference call!!!! LOL I'm ready for October NOW!

Allowing for an inevitable amount of wishful thinking in your analysis, I agree.

The "Out of the Woods" video is available in its entirety on Youtube. The "42-1-2" video was (to my knowledge) only put out on VHS tape. As I recall, it features an in-depth interview with Montgomery. My copy is currently on loan to Melissa Kim of WLBZ because of the discussions with/about Red. Both videos are Maine-centric of course, but Denver fans might enjoy the insight into Jimmy. He's a hell of a person and I have little doubt he will make a successful college coach.

I think that it will be good to see a different style of play. It would be easy for him to get lost in Gwoz's shadow if they play a similar style, but don't do it as well. The next couple of years could be pretty interesting. I am (if I may be cliché) cautiously optimistic at this point.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Quentin Shore and DU recruit Will Butcher have been invited to the WJC Evaluation Camp.
Good Skating and Good Luck to the boys!

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

This may be presumptuous on my part, DU's Last Man Skating will be Brett Skinner of the Grand Rapids Griffons.
In his honor the AHL Calder Cup finals will be streamed live and FREE!

Had a chance to listen to this and I think it was a good forum for the DU faithful.
Coach Monty also mentioned he met with hockey alums 2 times in the past week at Wiste's place, the Campus Lounge, as if we didn't know.;) Had alums from 1958 to 2008 at the gatherings.
Speaking of goalies, he mentioned one of the potential recruits could push Sam Brittain for the #1 job!

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Today is June 9, 2013. There are 119 days (17 weeks) until DU's next game.
