WTH did you say Viz?? Whoah.... I haven't heard that one. That's pretty crazy if he were to leave before the first puck ever dropped.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

I've seen some comments around the internet about our upcoming season schedule being "weak". Whether that's true or not, don't confuse weak with boring or non-entertaining. judging from last season at Magness, our highest PIM games were vs. Boston, followed by Cornell and North Dakota. With alot of East Coast opponents on the schedule - I'm looking forward to this!

From the Department of Fun Facts To Know and Tell comes the following.

The current issue of Sports Illustrated [cover date May 27 w/ a picture of the Saint Louis Cards starting pitching rotation] has an extensive piece written by Austin Murphy about the NHL teams in the state of California and about the continuing boom of hockey at all levels in that state. Along the bottom of the four page article is a timeline with short descriptions of what happened in the world of California hockey at various points. One such note mentions the year 1970.

In that year, a youngster who had been born in Hamilton, Ontario but who had moved to Lakewood, California eight years earlier, became the first player from Southern California to be drafted by an NHL team when the Saint Louis Blues drafted him with the 111th pick. The player was Mike Lampman.

Count me among the group of fans who did not realize Denver's connection with California players pre-dates the Gabe Gauthier [et al] pipeline by several decades.

Final lacrosse score:

Syracuse 9
Denver 8

Denver scored in the first minute of play and led 5-2 at halftime on the strength of ten saves by goalie Ryan LaPlante who was absolutely stellar. Syracuse didn't take the lead until scoring two goals in thrity-nine seconds in the final minute of play. Jamie Faus replaced LaPlante in goal for the second half and had a tough afternoon.

An exciting game, but a disappointing loss to end an otherwise strong season for the Pioneers. I'm already looking forward to the 2014 season.

In hindsight leave LaPlante in, but as Tierney said Faus has been the closer all year. Syracuse's defense,#1 in nation, seemed to get to our guys in the 4th and those 2 quick goals EXPLETIVE! It was fun until then.
Let's do it again next year--after all 3rd time's a charm

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

You guys got a good one.

Also, you picked up some secondary fans. Most Maine fans want to see Jimmy do well. This despite losing that big game in Boston. Oh well, it was a big game and Maine was snake bit so it doesn't upset me as much as that loss to Minnesota in St. Paul.

Wish your program the best of luck until they meet Maine in the playoffs/finals. :)
