Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Be interesting to see if Mayfield plays tonight for the Sound Tigers. I would guess he has a chance to play at least a little bit. It looks to me like the team is pretty close to being out of the playoffs, with only 8 games left.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Goiod Luck to Scott! As he bulks up to his heigth he will be a force to be reckoned with in the pros. His 114 penalty minutes were more than twice that of the next player.
BTW, with 1 exception all the early departures as frosh or sophs are D-men. You could also include Jon Merrill from Michigan. Due to team suspenstion and injury he really only played 2 seasons in 3 years.

Off the subject:
Do you remember Patrick Roy when he played for the Avs? Came across some of his "crazier" moments here.
You have to scroll down a bit, but charging other goalies and the spin-o-rama are sights to behold.:D

Let's not forget DU's other blue liner playing for the Sound Tigers.

DONOVAN PRODUCING POINTS - Similar to his strong second half last seasom, Sound Tigers defenseman Matt Donovan has hit his stride over the past two months. His most impressive performance came Thursday, when he set a record for a Sound Tigers defenseman with four points (1g/3a) in the 6-3 win over Worcester. Over has last 25 games, Donovan has recorded 20 points (6g/14a) and shows a plus-10 rating. Donovan leads the team in plus/minus with a plus-15 rating this season, and he is now ranked third amongst AHL defensemen in scoring.

Apparently Olkinuora's gone. Signed by the Jets. I haven't seen anything else confirming.

Hopefully it's a bad report, as that would leave Brittain as the only returning goaltender.

The dude came out of nowhere to become a pro prospect. Congrats to him, it's obviously what they all strive for. Brittain held down the fort as the full time goalie as a freshman. If he gets his consistency back, DU should be fine, though having two experienced goalies would have been nice.

I agree. I have a feeling that Brittain will be fine. He certainly was as a freshmen. And didn't we have a similar situation that year, where Adam Murray was the only non-freshman among the goalies?

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Interesting about Olkinoura. His departure does surprise me a bit, but he played well in his time in Denver and the Jets need some help. Congratulations and good luck to him. The new coach will need to bring a goalie with him or get one in short order. I wonder if Gwozdecky's staff had any goalie recruits on its radar?

Early departures are an immediate result of sacking of Gwoz. New coach will find cupboard barer on his arrival. Think your goalie would have stayed if Gwoz was still there.

How the hell would you know? Like we never lose anyone early or anything...

Because 22 year olds who just finished their sophomore seasons are always turning down pro offers. Get a grip.

With regard to Olkinoura and the Winnipeg Jets, one kid who is property of the Jets is Connor Hellebuyck of Lowell, who of course, is having a very nice season.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

There was a very good chance Olkinoura was leaving regardless of whether Gwoz remained or not. His value as a free agent will never be higher than it is now.

Absolutely no surprise, he has been garnering attention from pro scouts all season. Take my word he was gone whether Gwoz stayed or not. Chambers was hinting all season long he was leaving. He is 22 going on 23, normal age for a senior not a sophomore. His stock couldn't get any higher than it is. His timing was perfect for him to leave and the staff was well aware of it. The cupboard isn't bare, Sam will be back next season and a scholie frosh will be coming in as his back-up. DU will pick up a walk-on as the 3rd goalie.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Those DU coaches better get on the horn with their USHL peeps in Green Bay and take a peek inside Lalonde's little black book of goalies. There's got to be some kids still worth looking at somewhere..... and Lalonde and Carle surely know where. I'd be on the next plane to Wisconsin ready to take those guys to the fanciest, most expensive dinner I could find.......

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Those of you who follow these things more closely than I, who are the recruits that we are expecting for next year?

In wake of Coach Gwozdecky’s departure, NTDP U18’s Gage Ausmus has decommitted from Denver.

Oh for the love of God!! Can we get some good news please, anything!! I assume this Ausmus kid was a blue chipper. If these recruits start falling like dominoes, I am going to freak out right here on these boards!!
