Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Joe Howe spreads his legs again and the Beaves SWEEP 57. They FALL to 22nd in the PWR. Can you say GOLD PAN JUSTICE?

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

That was the most intense game I have been to in a long time!!! That B.S. no offside call almost cost us the game but our boys pulled it off anyways! What an awesome game!

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Interesting that in the end, the Rau DQ had a big impact on the outcome of last night's game. Missing their number 2 scorer was costly for the Gophs.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Very proud of DU for the great effort this weekend. The Shore brothers were impressive--they never get worked up--never too high, never too low--they just keep plugging away and then come up with some crazy stuff like last night. The Drew to Nick goal to force OT was a thing of beauty. Also LaLeggia--****, that kid is good. He's playing great on the point on the PP--composed, and aggressive at the same time. I can't believe he's a freshman. Could be our best offensive D-man since Matt Carle, and one of the best that I've seen at DU.

I also like the fire in Chris Knowlton's game. The kid plays hard, and his goal was clutch, too.

Great job. Made extra sweet by the fact that Rau likely realizes how he screwed his own team AND ditched his integrity in one fell swoop. Eat it!

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Some random thoughts from the weekend:

1- Wow, wow, wow!!
2- What is it with the Rau name and DU?
3- I hope Zucker is OK, how scary was that?
4- Ultimately, Brittain made the difference. Had he not made some of those clutch saves the outcome could have been very different this weekend
5- I can't wait to get Bennett back
6- I'm worried about Makowski, what in the world could this "upper body injury" mean?
7- Can you believe where we are in the standings and PWR?
8- I love how Dewhurst is bringing his A game.
9- Knowlton is quietly having himself a great season
10 "LackofsuCCess" and "BigBossMan" should get together.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

How about:

Nate Dewhurst in 3 years was 1-2-3.
This year he is 2-1-3

Shawn Ostrow in 2 years was 4-6-10.
This year is 9-8-17

Chris Knowlton in 2 years was 7-5-12
This year he is 10-4-14

Paul Phillips in 2 years was 0-8-8
This year is 1-7-8

Pios have 11 players in double digits; only 9 of whom have played the last month.

DU Power Play at 24%.

4 WCHA Scholar Athletes: repeaters Shawn Ostrow and Paul Phillips. Beau Bennett and Dan Olszewski make it in the 1st year of eligibility.

DU Alpine skiers owning the podium in Alaska.

DU swimmers in the top 5 of mid major team rankings

DU Men's basketball with a shot at the big dance.

In the highlights:
> mite/squirt Littleton's #10 goal scoring, Tebowing celebration
> Sam Brittain waving "bye-bye" to gophs Haula
> Nick Shore's game tying and game winning goals. Kudos to Drew Shore and Joey LaLeggia great passes.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

:(

And they brought up a d-man, not Donovan
:(

Dman they brought up (Wishart) will be an extra player and probably not dress. I am sure they want Dono playing as he is 2nd in scoring on Bridgeport. No need to bring him up and not play him.

It all comes down to playing time and who you get paired with. When Ostrow & Dewhurst move up to the third line...boom production goes up.

Loney & Salazar play on the first line and they get goals in bunches. Stick them on the 4th line and you never hear about them.

Every player that DU recruits can play. Sometimes they just need an opportunity, confidence or the right linemates.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Chambers has an update on Zucker:

University of Denver standout forward Jason Zucker is scheduled to practice today and will likely travel with the team to this weekend's series at Wisconsin, Pioneers coach George Gwozdecky said.

Zucker, a sophomore who has 34 points (15 goals) in 25 games, was knocked unconscious in Friday's game against Minnesota and missed the two-game series finale on Saturday. After dumping the puck in from the neutral zone, he absorbed a blind-side check and shoulder to the head by Gophers freshman Kyle Rau, who was assessed a game-misconduct and was later suspended for Saturday's game by Western Collegiate Hockey Association commissioner Bruce McLeod.

From Chambers on Twitter:
Also, DU's Beau Bennett, who had wrist surgery in Dec., is skating with the boys, using just one hand. Still couple weeks out

Good news on Zucker. Sounds like Gwoz wasn't a big fan of the hit, either.

Did Rau really only get suspended for one additional game, or is the league still looking at the issue? Crap hits like Rau's on Zucker and Malone's on Martin can't be tolerated. Giving Rau a slap on the wrist sends a dangerous message that this stuff is tolerated. Like DG points out on another thread, someone will eventually get killed through one of these cheap shots. The league/NCAA needs to send a stronger message before that happens.
