Dan Ellis is the safe pick, but I'd love to see what Sam Brittain could do in the Florida net – he had a dynamite NCAA career w/@DU_Hockey

@DU_Hockey Is PioneerVision streaming the games against UMD this weekend?

‏@DU_Hockey
@vizoroo TBD

In case you haven't noticed,,hockey schedule does NOT show audio/video for UMD games:eek::confused::eek:
NCHC.tv $24.99 for all quarter-final games,,which means tv people will be at Magness.
What's up with PioVision/CBSInteractive/NCHC.tv? Same confusion as the start of the season.:confused::(:o

The only games CBS is scheduled to air are the two semis and the final weekend after next. I have not been impressed with the limited use I've had with NCHC tv. Good luck!

It's on NCHC.tv for sure. Piovision seems to be up in the air. NCHC.tv is great, but the quality depends on the team. UMD has the worst, UND/SCSU have the best and you guys have the second best.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Ugh. DU in fifth after first day of skiing - Nordic Freestyle.
http://www.barttiming.com/eisa/Results15/ncaa2015tm.htm
Two good skates, but overall Stewarts' crew brought them in fifth. The team should be a lot better in that downhill stuff. My friends at Eldora are going to rub it in...CU has a strong lead after day 1.

Whoa, the championships kind of snuck up on me, there. A good day for DU for its top level skiers, but a big gap between their best finishing skiers and their worst finishing skiers. My understanding is that DU (assuming they have good days) can kill it in the alpine events. So hopefully that will happen. But we'll also have to do better in the 2nd day of XC races to leave a little room for error in the alpine events. Bad news--fifth place. Good news--it's still early. GO DU, hope they can make up some ground!

Too bad about LaLeggia. One of the top 3 most important players for DU. They will need him down the stretch. Hope he can play a game this weekend...either that, or I hope our PWR ranking is steady enough where Montgomery doesn't have to worry too much about giving him a night or two off.

Ski Championships Update:

DU women finished # 2 and # 3 in the GS, and one skier didn't finish.

DU men finished #2 and #4 in the GS, and one skier didn't finish. Shame (and very surprising) about the 2 skiers not finishing, but otherwise a great day for the Pioneers today. DU made up a ton of ground against Colorado, and a good chunk of ground on Utah. A solid day in XC tomorrow will be very important. The XC race is the wild card for DU. DU can rightly expect another very solid day of alpine results on the last day of competition. So if DU can get some decent results tomorrow and be within 10-20 points of the leader after tomorrow, I like our chances going into the last day of competition. Updated team scores for the top 6 teams, just 9 points out of first!

1. UNIVERSITY OF UTAH 241.0
2. UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO 237.0
3. UNIVERSITY OF DENVER 232.0
4. UNIV OF NEW MEXICO 204.0
5. UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT 192.0
6. DARTMOUTH COLLEGE 159.0

Much to my chagrin, NCHC ScholarAthlete, Larkin Jacobson's GPA took a precipitous drop down to a measly 3.98 :rolleyes::D

Congrats to all 17 Pioneers who made the NCHC All Academic team

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Impressive accomplishment on the academic side. Glad to hear that the solid tradition is continuing under Monty.

I've been thinking about our biggest weakness. It's the thing that is keeping us a low 2 seed versus a one. Goal tending. Our four lines are rolling very nicely. The 20/19/8 line is one of the best lines in CH right now and just a thrill to watch. Our D is really balanced and not making nearly as many mental errors as they did last year. Let's hope that when Joey comes back he can play close to 100%. He is the anchor especially on the PP. Vizoroo posted stats last week and aside from winning % these two guys are very similar. The biggest thing I've been aware of all season in regards to goal tending is what an amazing goal tending coach Derek L was. You can see the flaws in the Evan and Tanner due to this gap in the coaching staff. I'm hoping they are working to fill it as we speak. If we had a rock star goalie we would be right up there with UND right now.

I would like hear people's assessment of the two goalies strengths and weaknesses. I feel like I have a pretty good sense of Evan's strengths and Tanner's weaknesses so maybe people can help me on the other pieces.

Happy Game Day! Here is a link to Mike Chamber's article in the post today. Leggs has been cleared to play.

"Credit to the coaching staff and recruiting staff," LaLeggia said. "Anytime you got guys like me, Butchy, Zaj and Adam Plant who can move pucks up like that, it makes it a lot easier on everybody. It gives us another element, makes us more dangerous than most other teams."

Don't forget David Lassonde mentored Jussi and Brittain--2 All Americans in 3 years.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Looks like a pretty poor day for our classic XC racers. Only one man and one woman in the top 10, one guy in last place and one woman in last place (!!!), and Colorado and Utah both had very strong days. Don't know yet how many points we lost today (but it was a lot). I'm guessing DU will need a pretty much flawless performance from ALL six alpine skiers tomorrow to have any chance to win championship #23. DU is typically so good in the cross-country side of things, have no idea why they are weak this year.

Skiing may still have a VERY outside shot....but smarter money would be on hockey or lacrosse for a championship this year! Hoping that LaLeggia has had a good weak of healing up. Let's go hockey, get on that roll starting....now

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Bummer.
Mayhaps Dave Stewart gets to guest-write the email tonight from the team to us followers.
Right!

I'm now remembering some talk in one of the articles about some of the team members being sick...perhaps the two that finished in last place were sick. But you'd think that some of the other teams were battling adversity like that, too. Anyway, who knows. LeRoy will probably address this in the article that will appear on the DU site. We do have an OUTSTANDING alpine team, but not sure whether it will be enough. We might be able to catch Colorado, but catching Utah would require a screw up from at least one Utah skier, and across the board awesomeness from our skiers. We shall see.
