All Things Denver, XXX1X

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

There wasn't much change in positioning in the PWR this weekend. Here's a look at the top eight teams in the PWR as the weekend's game began and where those teams stand after last night's results.

1. Minnesota State began the weekend at #1 and slipped to #2.
2. North Dakota began the weekend at #2 and rose to #1.
3. Minnesota-Duluth began and ended the weekend at #3.
4. Miami began and ended the weekend at #4.
5. Michigan Tech began the weekend at #5, but fell to #7.
6. B.U. began and ended the weekend at #6.
7. Denver began the weekend at #7 and fell to #8.
8. Neb-O began the weekend at #8 and jumped all the way to#5 as it posted the biggest jump among teams in the top eight.

The eight teams which began the weekend in the top eight of the PWR ended in the top eight of the PWR.

Trevor Moore (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) has been named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. (It's about time!)
Danton Heinen (Langley, British Columbia) has been named the conference’s Rookie of the Week. This is the fourth time this season that Heinen has won this award; he also earned NCHC Offensive Player of the Week honors last Monday.

Each with 2G-4A-6P!

I'm surprised that this is the first time that Moore got the award.

Heinen--one of the most impressive DU freshmen since I have been watching DU hockey. His freshman season is up there with Bozak and Zucker's 1st seasons at DU. The guy has impressive vision and great hockey sense.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

An update on DU Athletic Director Peg Bradley-Doppes. PBD was returning to work today for the first time since January. She's been recovery from fusion surgery to both her neck and back. She is still facing the prospect of having to have replacement surgery for a knee and a hip at some point in the not too distant future. She has gone through some difficult times and I wish her improved health in the future.

And insane hands, I'm not sure DU has had a guy with hands like his since I've been following (2001 or so)

Really hope he sticks around for two more seasons.

So I'm unfamiliar with the NCHC playoff format, but what are the chances Denver gets a home playoff series?

Decent chance they'll host a series next weekend, likely against Duluth. They're currently in the final home-ice slot, up by two points over Duluth. UMD has a bit easier weekend ahead of them, in Kalamazoo facing Western. DU needs to show up this weekend, a split could secure them home ice, a sweep would be better.

Awesome, I'm hoping to get to a playoff game at Magness. I'm rooting for you guys to go deep.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Sam Brittain called up to Florida along with another goalie, Dan Ellis, as both Luongo and Montoya got hurt in last night's game against the Leafs.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Did anybody catch Monty featured on Monday night's XFinity Live on CBS Channel 4? It was quite a positive show. This sure feels like a positive time for DU. Good features on the seniors, David Carle... and even Monty's 2 boys. Talked about Hobey Joey, all kinds of good stuff. Again, a very positive vibe in the air right now. Sure hope this team can make a championship run

Waterloo Black Hawks have acquired DU recruit. defenseman Blake Hillman from the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

BTW– For the first time in the brief history of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), one team swept the NCHC’s monthly awards as Denver senior defenseman Joey LaLeggia repeated as NCHC Player of the Month while DU freshman forward Danton Heinen captured NCHC Rookie of the Month for February.

More/Moore Honors--NCAA

Second star -- Trevor Moore, Denver
Moore scored six points on the weekend in leading the Pioneers to a split with Miami (Ohio) in Denver. In the Friday night 5-3 loss, Moore scored a goal and an assist but it was not enough. On Saturday night, Moore -- a sophomore forward -- scored four points on a goal, which was the game winner, and three assists. For the weekend, he had two goals, four assists, seven shots on goal and finished with a plus-2 rating. He has 37 points this season on 18 goals and 19 assists.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Good luck to DU hockey tonight, as they battle for home ice. I would consider it a great favor if they would allow me to see a couple playoff games at Magness.

Also, good luck to the #4 lacrosse team as they battle #3 Notre Dame tomorrow. The game is sold out, so I'm glad I got my tix a while ago! It should be a battle, a fun environment, and hopefully a sunny day.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

#4 Pairwise--Wow!

Double Victory tomorrow for Pios!
Lacrosse and Hockey
DU IT!
