Not 5 of the Top 10 recruits. Just 5 players who play on Top 10 teams. Big difference.

Good catch. I read it wrong. Hopefully, those players are good ones.

Even so, historically, these are guys who couldn't find Denver on a map. So it's good to be getting their attention.

Final wrap-up the 2009/10 DU hockey season from the DU website.

I must say we are lucky to be DU fans and get the TV/Radio/Webcast coverage that we get on a local and national basis. Sitting here on the east coast, DU broadcast on TV or videocast all but 4 games this season that I was able to watch. For the first time ever, I think I got more live DU games than Gopher games. DU TV games were available on cable and satellite throughout North America. Every game was also available via audiocast. Kudos to FSN-RM, FCS (picked up FSN-RM broadcasts to televise nationally on cable), PioneerVision and the local Denver radio stations for their broadcasts. In the print media, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post led the way. Chambers was on top of all the breaking stories and several times had multiple stories in a day on his newspaper blog. The student newspaper, The Clarion, also had excellent coverage of the team. The print media coverage was avaliable as well on the internet to national fans. Eric Bacher and the DU sports information department kept DU fans abreast with timely stories, game notes, game recaps and weekly press conferences that covered the team on the DU website. Last but not least the #1 college hockey blogger, our own Damien Goddard of LetsGoDU, covered the team by bringing together all the stories, videos and pictures of the team, its opponents, recruiting and of course Boone. It was a fun year watching the team although the ending was not as we hoped. GO DU!!!!!

Big article and multiple (3!) consecutive videos on DU lacrosse at ESPN:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5143697

There is an upcoming story on DU lax in the New York Times magazine and there was a good story on the Pios in the New Yorker recently.

This kind of national and New York high-end publicity is incredible for the school.

This is the kind of stuff that not only brings good lax players, but puts DU in a positive light in the money center of the country, which is great for reputation building and bringing in the kind of affluent students DU needs in order to increase diversity. That might sound strange, but in a tuition-driven school as DU as, having more rich rids enables DU to better discount rates for the less affluent students. The less affluent might complain that there are too many rich kids already at DU, but the reality is that 70% of DU students are on some kind of aid, and the less affluent (and scholarship athletes) are absolutely subsidized by the more affluent families.

Who's Still Playing?

NHL
Matt Carle--1 assist in 5 games against the Devils
Matt Pettinger--only saw action in 1 game for the Canucks

AHL
Gabe Gauthier for Manchester 1-2-3
Brock Trotter for Hamilton 4-3-7
Keith Seabrook for Abbottsford 2-2-4
For Chicago:
Kevin Doell 3-0-3
Peter Mannino 2 shutouts, 2.34 GAA, .901Sv%-Round 1
(Manno only had 2 shutouts in the regular season)

Matt Carle got his 2nd assist of the playoffs on the game tying goal, but Boston came back to win in OT.
Wonder if Colborne was at the game?

Add another goal for Gauthier although they lost to Worcester 3-2.
Trotter takes on Seabrook today and Mannino and Doell are also in action.

A couple of DU recruits were selected in the OHL Draft last week. Scott Mayfield selected in the 6th Round by Kitchener & Dakota Mermis in the 12th Round by the London Knights.

Both these teams will offer these kids cars, full ride scholarships and anything else they can to bail on DU and play MJ's in Canada.

Luckily DU has good family ties with both recruits.

Mermis' older brother, Jarrod, will be coming to DU this year and Mayfield's parents went to DU Law School.

DU's elite recruits are being chased by the cream of the crop of the OHL. It shows how talented these players are. That being said, DU isn't always going to have the "Family Ties" angle with future recruits. Things are going to get rough on the recruiting front.

GAME DAY: I just looked at insidelacrosse.com site. They have a Bracketologist, Tim Foy. According to him, WE ARE IN, even before our Conference championship game with Loyola.
I sure hope Tim knows his stuff. We have a #13 RPI. I suppose our win on the road over #8 Stony Brook carries tons of weight. Loyola has No weaknesses. They can contend for a National Championship.

Now go to laxpower.com. On the homepage, you are directed to a great article about DU Lacrosse that appears today in the NY Times Sports section page #1 including pictures.

The Pioneers destroyed Loyola (Md.) 12-4 to win the ECAC championship and the NCAA auto-bid before about about 3,000 fans at Mile High Stadium. Loyola was ranked #6 coming in, and the Pios were ranked #16.

DU went up 3-0 and never really looked back, winning ground balls and using a patient, ball control offense to destroy one of the nation's top defenses.

It was really an amazing display of lacrosse, and Coach Tierney got a gatorade shower from the team.

This was perhaps the biggest day in the history of the program, considering what Tierney did in a tougher league without his own players. Bravo.

The Legend Grows!! Sounds like you were at the game Swami. Must have been a blast. It wasn't even nerve racking.
I'll see the boys in person in 2 weeks when they come East for round 1 as long as we don't get shiped to UNC or Duke. If the committee is cool, they send us to Princeton. (and I live 10 miles from Princeton)

I was there. It was pretty cool to see DU throttle Loyola. The Pioneers were jacked up and really showed in the way they dominated.

Tierney bringing in some big time recruits next season. Of the 13 recruits listed on laxpower.com, 5 play for top 10 high schools in the nation. He has 2 players coming from #1 Georgetown Prep in MD, 1 from #4 St. Paul's in MD and 2 from #7 Deerfield Academy in MA.

There are 3 Long Island teams in the top 10: #2 West Islip, #6 Manhasset and #8 St, Anthony's. It will be interesting to see when he starts getting some of these players to go out west. He had many players from Manhasset play at Princeton for him including Kevin Lowe, a 3-time All American between 1992 and 1994, 2-time national champion and Lacrosse Hall of Famer.

Some chatter on the laxpower message board about DU's playoff date/opponents.

DU is now 11-4 in lax, and with three wins over top 20 teams (two of them top 10), there is a small chance they could rise to be the #8 overall seed, which would mean a home NCAA playoff game. :) We need to see how the last weekend of games unfold next weekend....

On the other hand, it seems more likely as of now that DU will be more likely to fly to North Carolina, probably to play North Carolina or Duke.

I think its better to play UND or Duke and see where the program sits before Tierney's recruits step in. Better to lose to them than be upset by R.I.T.... :)

They certainly can't overlook Air Force next weekend, even though they are in last place in the ECAC. DU is definitely the "Cinderella" in this year's tourney.
