Re: All Things Denver XXIX

I don't worry too much about Donovan. He's a +7 player with as much talent as any d-man in the league. All he needs is more experience, which will help his decision-making.

If there is legitimate criticism, it should be directed at the underperformers so far:

-Adam Murray's 82% saves percentage - this is not acceptable at the D-I level. Not much to say other than there's nowhere to go but up.
-Maiani's two goals all season - Both of them came against MSUM. He needs to contribute more as a senior, hopefully he gets in the groove.
-Bennett with only 1 goal this year - Everyone was surprised at his slow start. First goal was last weekend and hopefully more to come.
-Phillips at -5 -- it's been tough start for Paul, but I think he knows what he needs to do to get better
-No goals from Knowlton, S. Ostrow, Dewhurst and Olezewski, despite ocassional ice time on upper lines. Someone, step up please!

The "Tank" now plays for the NY Rangers. Besides the Rangers and Penguins, he has also played for the Flyers, Lightning and Islanders winning cups with the Lightning and Pens.

I've often thought the best kind of career in Hollywood would be as a character actor. You can work for 30 or 40 years and don't have to worry about gray hair, wrinkles and weight. Look at a guy like Walter Brennan. He was playing old dudes in his 40's and kept on playing old dudes 'til his 70's. No need for personal trainers, personal chefs, and plastic surgery. Just show up and do your thing. When Margaret Hamilton played the Wicked Witch of the West in 1939, she was making a grand a week! What is that in today's money? She played nosy, gossipy old crones her entire career. And she also worked well into her 70's.

I don't know what happened last night with USCHO, but I like many on the east coast, I couldn't even get on the site!! Luckily I had it on TV, but what about tonight?
If I can't get on the score update, I am going to freak out!!!!!! Is there an alternative if this happens?

I had the same problem in the Valley of the Sun. Tonight's game is on Pioneer Vision, right? Assuming I'm right, and assuming you subscribe, that means you should be able to get the game regardless of USCHO's problems. Right? I'm always reluctant to get into these conversations 'cause I'm such a computer illiterate. Sooner or later DU78 will pop in with an answer, I hope.

Game is on Pioneer Vision tonight. If this site crashes go over to the DU Athletics website at www.denverpioneers.com and join in the Live Game Blog run by Erich Bacher. No cost and you can post your thoughts and ask Erich questions. Viz and I are usually over there as well as here.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Big news from Pio Land. Olezeswski will replace Mermis on the fourth line tonight. Should make all the difference.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Pioneers have been through a difficult opening schedule, a raft of injuries including one nearly catastrophic, and now final exams are behind them, so to be in second place is a very good result.

That said, you can't put a ton of stock in the standings, given the big disparities in league games played (DU's played 10, CC has played but 6) and the fact that there isn't much separation at this point.

What's exciting for DU is that the Pioneers have essentially gained two new front line players in Nick Shore and Dusty Jackson from injuries to help offset the loss of Jesse Martin. The defense is also playing better, and I think DU could now rest John Lee another weekend to give his hand more time to heal, as Lake State and Air Force are likely at the same about level as Bemidji State. We're also seeing Maiani's scoring drought turning into a streak, and Bennett, while not scoring is proving to be a fine passer at this level. And Makowski's blueline bombs are helping.

Both Lake State and Air Force are teams that DU should beat, and I think next weekend will be a good weekend to fully integrate Nick SHore and Dusty Jackson into the system, and get the team to really gel before the UMD trip.

Now when I saw the words Crown Royal who did I think of? Old Pio, of course.
Surely, you have a few Crown Royal moments that would muss Jimmy's hair. :D ;)

Generally I wait 'til the late NFL games to indulge in Crown, today I might make an exception. I'm feeling like Northwestern's defensive coordinator. Besides, I lost the tiny amount of respect I had for Jimmy when he started dressing up like a Nascar driver to do spots for a product that purports to make him, uh, bigger, if you know what I mean.

True enough. But, even though the 57's have "only" played six league games, they've managed to lose four of 'em. And DU has fewer losses than all but two WCHA teams. I think at this point their conference performance has exceeded just about everyone's expectations.

Agreed and don't forget there was a poster among us who declared he would be ecstatic, if by the time the Denver Cup was upon us we would be at .500. We're at .750!!! Yeah baby!!!
